Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) affects over 693 million adults globally by 2045, with complications like neuropathy underscoring the need for effective monitoring. This observational case-control study at Ibnu Sina Hospital, Makassar, explores the relationship between HbA1c levels, fasting blood sugar (GDP), disease duration, and diabetic neuropathy. Analyzing 77 medical records, the study found that most participants were aged 56-65 years, predominantly male, with high rates of uncontrolled HbA1c (80.5%) and GDP (67.5%). Diabetic neuropathy prevalence was 61.0%. Statistical analysis revealed significant correlations between neuropathy and HbA1c levels (p=0.000), GDP (p=0.002), and disease duration (p=0.041). These findings highlight the impact of glycemic control and disease duration on neuropathy in DM patients.

Abstract

Sebagian besar sampel memiliki kadar tidur poor sleep yaitu 123 sampel (87,2%).

Abstract

Antioxidants play an important role in counteracting free radicals that can damage body cells. Indonesia has a wide variety of natural antioxidant sources, including fig fruit (Ficus carica) and red grapes (Vitis vinifera), which are rich in polyphenol and flavonoid compounds. To determine the antioxidant activity of these fruits, the DPPH method is used because it is simple, rapid, and accurate in measuring the ability of compounds to scavenge free radicals. This study aimed to determine the extraction method for fig fruit (Ficus carica) and red grapes (Vitis vinifera), as well as to analyze the polyphenol antioxidant content of both fruits using the DPPH method. This research was an experimental laboratory study. The results showed that the extraction of fig fruit (Ficus carica) and red grapes (Vitis vinifera) was carried out using the maceration method. This method was chosen because it is simple, easy to perform, requires readily available equipment, and is effective in maintaining the stability of heat-sensitive active compounds, making it suitable for extracting polyphenol compounds. Based on the results of the antioxidant activity test using the DPPH method, the fig fruit extract of the Iraqi variety showed an IC₅₀ value classified as very strong antioxidant activity, while the red grape extract of the Red Globe variety showed an IC₅₀ value classified as strong according to the Blois classification. These results indicate that both fruits contain polyphenol compounds with antioxidant potential, with higher antioxidant activity observed in fig fruit compared to red grapes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between non-ergonomic work postures and musculoskeletal complaints among rice factory workers in Lapao-Pao Village, Wolo Subdistrict, Kolaka District, Southeast Sulawesi. The study employed a cross-sectional design with an observational analytical approach, involving 30 workers divided into three work groups: PPAB, PPTAB, and PBTAB. Work postures were assessed using the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method, while musculoskeletal complaints were measured using the Nordic Body Map. The results of the study showed that the majority of respondents experienced mild musculoskeletal complaints; however, no significant relationship was found between work postures and musculoskeletal complaints, with p-values greater than 0.05. Nevertheless, the analysis indicated that groups with high work posture risk were more likely to report more musculoskeletal complaints. This study emphasizes the importance of ergonomic interventions, such as proper work posture training and better workplace design, to reduce musculoskeletal complaints. Additionally, this study provides recommendations for further research using a longitudinal approach to identify other factors influencing the relationship between work posture and musculoskeletal complaints

Abstract

Introduction: Academic self-efficacy, defined as an individual's belief in their ability to overcome academic challenges, has consistently been linked to improved academic performance. However, its impact on key assessments in medical education, such as the Computer-Based Test (CBT) and the Student Oral Case Analysis (SOCA), remains underexplored. This study examines the influence of academic self-efficacy on knowledge achievement in the CBT and SOCA exams among medical students in the Neuropsychiatry block at the Faculty of Medicine, Muslim University of Indonesia. Objective: This study aims to assess the impact of academic self-efficacy on students’ knowledge achievement in both the CBT and SOCA exams and to provide insight into the role of self-efficacy across different exam formats. Methods: This cross-sectional observational study involved 376 students from the 2022 cohort. Academic self-efficacy was measured using a validated questionnaire, and test scores were analyzed using descriptive statistics. The relationship between self-efficacy and test scores was evaluated using Pearson’s correlation test. Results: The study found a significant positive correlation between academic self-efficacy and SOCA exam scores (r = 0.183, p = 0.000), although the correlation was weak. No significant relationship was found between self-efficacy and CBT scores (r = -0.075, p = 0.148). The majority of students reported high self-efficacy, with the average SOCA score (83.78) significantly higher than the CBT score (60.08). Conclusion: Academic self-efficacy significantly influences performance in interactive, communication-based exams like SOCA but has minimal impact on multiple-choice exams like CBT, which rely on recall or recognition. These findings emphasize the importance of fostering self-efficacy in medical education. Educational institutions should consider interventions such as self-efficacy training, learning strategies, and critical thinking development to enhance students' confidence and academic success.
