Abstract

The skin is the largest organ on the human body that plays a vital role in protecting the body from environmental aggressions and maintaining internal balance, however, the natural aging process and exposure to external factors can cause various skin problems, including loss of elasticity, fine lines, and hyperpigmentation. To address these issues, the development of skincare products such as anti-aging gels is important. The aim of this study was to optimise the base of the anti-aging gel formulation by considering the selection of gelling agents with appropriate variations. The research method was conducted by obtaining five different formulas using a combination of gelling agents Carbopol and CMC Na with variations of Formula 1 which is 1% b/v carbopol with 2% b/v CMC Na, Formula 2 which is 1.25% b/v carbopol with 1.75% b/v CMC Na, Formula 3 which is 1.5% b/v carbopol with 1.5% b/v CMC Na, Formula 4 which is 1.75% b/v carbopol with 1.25% b/v CMC Na and Formula 5 which is 2% b/v carbopol with 1% b/v CMC Na . Physical testing was conducted to evaluate the formulation characteristics, including colourimetry, pH, viscosity, adhesion, and spreadability, comparisons between different formulas were conducted to determine the best base formula. The results showed that formula 5 with the ratio of gelling agent carbomer 2% b/v and CMC Na 1% b/v, is the optimal formula supported by physical testing, namely the metric choleretic test is good, homogeneous, pH 6.237 in accordance with the pH range of the skin, the Viscosity test has the highest viscosity of 148.34 d.Pas, the longest adhesion test with an adhesion time of 9.535 seconds, allowing the active substance to more easily penetrate the skin and be absorbed.

Abstract

Red dragon fruit peel extract is reported as an active ingredient in sunscreen because of its ability to protect the skin. UV exposure to the skin can cause reddish skin to develop skin cancer. This study aimed to determine the characteristics of the cream made from ZnO and red dragon fruit peel extracts (Hylocereus costaricensis), such as sun protection factor (SPF), pH, stability, viscosity, spreadability, and adhesion. Red dragon fruit peel extract was obtained by maceration using methanol, and DPPH-scavenging activity resulted in an IC50 of 0.96 μg/mL. Measurement of diffuse UV-vis reflectance shows that ZnO has absorption at λex 385 nm, which correlates with a bandgap energy of 3.22 eV. F1 formulation cream (red dragon fruit peel extract and ZnO ratio of 0:1) has the highest SPF value of 17. The Kruskal-Wallis test shows that there is a significant difference in adhesion between the F1 formulation cream with F2 (p-value = 0.002) and F4 (p-value = 0.03).

Abstract

The optimization of geometry and electronic transition of seven coumarin derivatives for sunscreen activity have been conducted using Orca. DFT methods is applied to find optimum geometry and parameter data is measured like bond length and bond angle. TD-DFT is conducted to get electronic transition to get ultraviolet (UV) spectra. The result shows that the coumarin derivative transition type is n to π* and π to π*. All coumarin exhibits the properties of UV-B protection, however, two out of seven show properties as a UV-A protection. The energy difference HOMO-LUMO shows that coumarin with isopropyl substituent has the smallest energy gap, around 0.1559, whereas coumarin with fluorine atom substituent has the biggest energy gap.

Abstract

Coordination compounds are compounds consisting of a metal atom as a center surrounded by ligands, which are important in applications such as catalysts and pharmacological sensors. Salophen, as one of the organic ligands, is capable of forming complexes with various metal ions. This study uses a computational chemistry approach to model the geometry, electronic properties, and bond vibrations of compound complexes between salophen and Zn(II), Cd(II), and Hg(II) metal ions using the PM6 semiempirical method. Modeling results show that the metal ion radius affects the dihedral angle of salophen, with the largest angle occurring in the complex with Hg(II) ions, while the complex with Cd(II) ions tends to be close to planar. FTIR analysis shows that the vibrational pattern is influenced by the bond length of salophen with metal ions. In addition, the HOMO-LUMO gap energy of the three complexes is also slightly different, with the Zn-salophen complex having the smallest Egap of 0.25709 eV.

Abstract

Sambal holds a significant place in Indonesian culinary heritage, reflecting the traditions of past generations. To address the issue of improper sambal storage leading to a shorter shelf life, a new approach in packaging has been introduced. The objective of this community service project is to establish the appropriate shelf life for sambal and provide storage recommendations. Through testing under different conditions, it was found that sambal can last for 4 days at room temperature, while the recommended storage temperature is between 2 and 8 degrees Celsius for a duration of 2 weeks.

Abstract

Palangkaraya, with more than 500,000 hectares of peatland, faces major challenges in the management of its natural resources. Acidic and infertile peatlands require a special approach to increase agricultural productivity without damaging the environmental balance. One relevant approach is the application of the zero waste concept, where organic waste from agriculture and agro-tourism can be processed into high-quality compost. This community service program aims to introduce Organic Waste Composting Machine technology with Vertical Aerobic Composting method to Harapan Farmer Group in Palangkaraya. The program includes training in the use of technology and mentoring in organic waste management to improve peatland fertility. The results showed a significant increase in partners' understanding and skills in utilizing compost technology, and successfully supported the zero waste program by converting organic waste into useful compost. This program not only supports environmental sustainability, but also contributes to the improvement of partners' economic welfare through reduced dependence on chemical fertilizers.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to develop superior products at Cipta Rasa Agrotourism, Palangkaraya, through the application of vacuum frying technology. The focus of the activity included selecting the right fruits, namely crystal guava and papaya, based on their low moisture content and ease of processing. Making sample chips from these two fruits resulted in a crispy, low-oil product, while maintaining natural flavors and nutrients. In addition, the selection of appropriate packaging materials, using a combination of aluminum foil and OPP plastic, provides optimal protection of product quality and extends shelf life. An attractive and informative packaging design was also prepared to increase the product's competitiveness in the market. The results of this activity show that vacuum frying technology and good packaging design can increase the added value of agro-tourism products, support the concept of green economy, and have a positive impact on the welfare of farmers and environmental sustainability. This chip product has great potential to be marketed widely, both at the local and national levels.
