Abstract

This study attempts to evaluate the Indonesian adaptation of the DASS-21, a scale adapted from Peter F. and Sydney H. Lovibond 1995 to assess levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. Multistage random sampling taking from 1478 Indonesian. Additionally, we use The Rasch measurement model to examine psychometric properties of DASS-21. The results indicate that the DASS-21 fulfills the psychometric measurement aspect by providing evidence as a valid and reliable instrument, with a very good item reliability value .99 and sufficient person reliability (.89), as well as a Cronbach alpha value KR-20.  of .91, meaning that the quality of the items is very good for revealing depression, anxiety, and stress. Furthermore, the results are reinforced by the Principal Component Analysis (PCA) value to the residual of 39.7%, meaning that the items in DASS-21 are representative for measuring depression, anxiety, and stress. Therefore, it can be said that the DASS-21 is valid and reliable for assessing the levels of stress, anxiety, and depression. The Indonesian translation of the DASS-21 constructs can also be used to assess the stress, anxiety, and depression levels.

Abstract

The competency test results for state high school teachers who served in Rokan Hilir Regency only passed 42 percent of the total teachers. This indicates that teachers’ performance is still poor. Internal and external factors both influence teachers’ performance. The internal factor is emotional intelligence, which is the ability to recognize one's own and other people's emotions. The external factor is job stress caused by the demands of the job and the work environment. The study aims to determine the impact of teachers’ emotional intelligence and job stress on teachers’ performance. This type of research uses a quantitative approach using linear regression analysis techniques. This research was conducted in all public high schools in the Rokan Hilir district. The population of this study was all teachers at public high schools who served in Rokan Hilir Regency, namely 879 teachers. Sampling using a random sampling technique with a size of 10% of the population, namely 90 teachers. The data collection technique is a non-test psychological measurement scale. Based on data analysis, the following results were obtained: Emotional intelligence has a significant influence on teachers’ performance at public high schools in Rokan Hilir Regency; Job stress has no significant effect on teachers’ performance at the State Senior High School of Rokan Hilir Regency; Job stress and emotional intelligence simultaneously have a significant impact on teachers’ performance.

Abstract

Thesis is a final project that is quite scary for most students in Indonesia. In the process of compilation, students often do things that are non-productive, such as procrastination and avoid supervisor. Sometimes, excessive academic anxiety of this thesis can lead students to do things beyond common sense, namely suicide. If examined in more depth based on counseling approach Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), academic anxiety to the thesis experienced by students is a cognitive distortion caused by maladaptive core beliefs. Therefore, students who experience it need to get help so that their core beliefs can be more adaptive again. Based on the latest research results, integration of CBT counseling with more modern techniques of music therapy has proved effective in reducing academic anxiety and improving self-efficacy of thesis students. Thus, through this conceptual study, it is hoped that counselors in Indonesia will be able to understand, practice and conduct further research on CBT counseling interventions integrated with music therapy.

Abstract

There are significant differences between the methods used in Western and Eastern culture to discuss sex. Any topic related to sex in Eastern culture, specifically Indonesia, is often considered taboo compared to Western culture. This is due to the strong cultural and religious values prevalent in Eastern societies, making discussions about sex feel impolite and inappropriate. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the importance of sex education as a “sine qua non” in Indonesia and the consequences of treating sex education as a taboo. The exploration process would examine the role of parents, teachers, counselors, psychologists, and the community in sex education, new sex education policies, along with recommendations, implications, and directions for future investigations.

Abstract

Hospitalization affects the emotional, psychological, and social well-being of schizophrenic patients. The process can produce experiences of both flourishing and languishing. This study aims to identify and describe such experiences of schizophrenic patients during hospitalization. A phenomenological qualitative method was employed with six schizophrenic patients hospitalized at Ernaldi Bahar Hospital in Palembang, Indonesia. Research data were collected using semi-structured interviews and documentation methods. These were analyzed using thematic analysis. The findings demonstrate the developing experiences of schizophrenic patients during hospitalization; there are three themes: 1) experiencing increased contact with and awareness of reality, 2) finding meaning and purpose in life, and 3) finding positive relationships among patients. Languishing experiences were also classified into three themes: 1) feeling bored and confined, 2) experiencing unpleasant events on arrival, and 3) experiencing social isolation. In particular, clinical struggle, functional recovery, and cultural struggle are predictors of the flourishing and languishing experiences of hospitalized schizophrenic patients. The findings contribute to developing the concept of languishing and flourishing among such patients through evidence-based empirical data regarding the efforts to foster and maintain their subjective well-being during hospitalization.

Abstract

The author discussed sapiosexuality as a phenomenon that needs to be studied further in the context of sex education. This topic is very current and needs to be discussed more scientifically. The author hopes that through this paper, it can give special consideration to being able to include the discussion of sapiosexuals in the context of formal, informal, and non-formal education. In addition, further researchers are expected to be able to link sapiosexuality with the well-established theory of multiple intelligences. In conclusion, it can be concluded that sapiosexuality is one of the most interesting discussions to be discussed further in the implementation of sexual education in various education sectors, because it is very relevant to the current situation and developments. Despite the controversy and criticism that still occurs in the field, the topic of sapiosexuality will continue to grow stronger by the day. It is evident that currently psychological instruments have been developed to measure this, and there have been quite several scientific studies targeting it. So hopefully, this theory about sapiosexuality can be more scientifically trusted in the future.

Abstract

Career Decision Self-Efficacy (CDSE), which reflects an individual's confidence in making effective career decisions, is influenced by various factors, particularly sex and ethnicity. This quantitative, non-experimental cross-sectional study aims to compare CDSE levels among young men and women from five ethnic groups in Indonesia: Mentawai, Kutai, Lombok, Palu, and Papua. The study involved 75 participants, 38 males and 37 females—who completed the Career Decision Self-Efficacy Scale–Short Form (CDSES-SF), which demonstrated high reliability (Cronbach’s alpha = 0.901). The results revealed gender-based differences in CDSE dimensions. Male participants scored highest in goal selection (M = 4.79, SD = 0.66) and lowest in planning for the future (M = 4.48, SD = 0.67). In contrast, female participants showed the highest score in occupational information (M = 4.74, SD = 0.61) and the lowest in problem solving (M = 4.43, SD = 0.82). Ethnic differences were also observed. The lowest scoring CDSE dimensions varied: occupational information for Mentawai (M = 4.32, SD = 0.61) and Palu (M = 4.24, SD = 0.43); planning for the future for Kutai (M = 3.70, SD = 0.81) and Papua (M = 3.37, SD = 0.56); and goal selection for Lombok (M = 3.57, SD = 0.88). Based on these findings, it is recommended that counselors provide group or classical guidance and career-focused counseling/psychotherapy to help students strengthen CDSE dimensions where scores remain low, thereby supporting informed and confident career decision-making.
