Abstract

Woodworkers are particularly susceptible to inhalation of sawdust exposure. Exposure to sawdust for a long time causes various health problems and causes the damage of the epithelium to a barrier. This study aims to identify whether inhaled sawdust can cause changes in the nasal mucosa and the occurrence of an inflammatory process. This study was a cross-sectional analytical study. Data were collected from July 2021 to January 2022 from the nasal cavity swab of 35 woodworkers who had worked for 1 to 5 years. The assessment was carried out by cytological examination to identify epithelial changes in the form of mild and moderate dysplasia, while the inflammation was found in the form of acute and chronic inflammation. Twenty-six (74.3%) samples were normal, 7 (20%) samples had mild dysplasia, and 2 (5.7%) samples had moderate dysplasia. Whereas 20 (57.1%) were found to have no inflammation, 8 (22.9%) were with acute inflammation, and 7 (20.0%) were found to have chronic inflammation). Fisher’s exact test showed a relationship between the inflammatory process and epithelial changes (p 0.020). In conclusion, sawdust inhaled showed changes in the epithelial mucosa and inflammatory processes of the nasal cavity.

Abstract

Palm oil contains vitamin E which comprises two structurally similar compounds namely tocopherols and tocotrienols. For many years tocopherols considered the best therapy in curing disease, but in recent research advances, tocotrienol has been widely used as a powerful therapy in several diseases, including cancer. We prepared this article to review and analyze the role of tocotrienols from palm oil as anticancer molecules and their mechanism of action in the process of tumorigenesis based on the literature from PubMed, Scopus, Science Direct, and ProQuest databases published from 2011 to 2020, and according to the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) statement. Nineteen English articles and abstracts according to the inclusion criteria, systematically reviewed and compiled. The results showed that tocotrienol acts on intracellular and extracellular targets involved in cell signaling pathways and suppresses the growth of various malignancies, including breast, lung, prostate, ovarian, liver, brain, colon, pancreatic, and myeloma cancers. This literature review shows that the molecular mechanism of action of tocotrienols has several advantages, namely a positive effect on cell proliferation, apoptosis, angiogenesis, metastasis, and inflammation, which when working together can function as effective agents in cancer therapy. The tocotrienol-mediated therapeutic action mechanism could help clinicians to design new strategies for cancer treatment.

Abstract

Tuberculosis lymphadenitis (TBLN) is the most common extra pulmonary TB (EPTB) case in the world with a range of 30-40% of all EPTB cases. When the body's immune system cannot kill the pathogen, the body will try to contain the pathogen (granuloma). The outer portion of the granuloma becomes calcified and the cells in the center undergo necrosis. The formation of central necrosis is associated with the emergence of cellular hypersensitivity with the features of local accumulation of macrophages and lymphocytes. The current study aimed to determine the relationship between the microscopic features of central caseous necrosis with lymphocyte density in patients with tuberculous lymphadenitis. Thirty histopathological slides of TBLN patients were observed under a microscope to see the features of central caseous necrosis and assess the lymphocyte density with the results assessed based on the cutoff point of the median of all lymphocyte mean values. Based on the microscopic examination, 25 samples of central caseous necrosis were found and the other 5 samples were not found to have caseous necrosis. Twenty-six patients had low lymphocyte density, and 4 patients had high lymphocyte density. The results of the Fisher Exact test obtained p = 0.009. There is a significant relationship between the features of central caseous necrosis and lymphocyte density in patients with TBLN.

Abstract

Nutritional status is the state of the body due to food consumption and nutrient utilization that can be distinguished between poor, less, good, and more nutritional status which can have an impact on morbidity and mortality. An important factor in the incidence of infant morbidity and mortality is low birth weight due to the consumption of unhealthy foods during pregnancy and the period of supplementary feeding. This community service aims to determine the nutritional status of toddlers based on anthropometric measures. The service method is carried out through counseling, filling out questionnaires, and anthropometric measurements of infants aged < 1 year using scales and an infantometer. Assessment of children's nutritional status based on weight to height is severely wasted: <-3 SD, underweight: -3 SD to <-2 SD, normal: -2 SD to +1 SD, risk of overweight: >+1 SD to +2 SD, overweight: >+2 SD to +3 SD, and obesity: >+3 SD. The results of the service were obtained from 32 babies who were anthropometrically 24 children with normal status, 2 children were obese and 6 children were underweight.

Abstract

Background. Research on eosinophils in lymph node cytology in tuberculous lymphadenitis (TBLN) patients with dark specks cytomorphology and its association with a history of atopies are still very little. Although neutrophils have been reported as predominant phagocytic cells in TB patients, eosinophils are also abundant in blood and lung tissue, but their role and pathogenesis are still unclear. Objective. To analyze the relationship between TBLN and eosinophils, dark specks, and history of atopy in pediatric TBLN patients. Methods. This study is a cross-sectional study of 35 indicative cytology results of patients with TBLN stained with May Grunwald Giemsa. Data on atopy history were measured by filling out the standard questionnaire of The International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC). Results. Based on the cytological examination, 22 samples (62.9%) were found with positive eosinophils, and 13 samples (37.1%) with negative eosinophils. A total of 23 samples (65.7%) had a history of atopy. The Fisher's Exact Test results showed that TBLN with dark specks cytomorphology tends to find eosinophils with a test value of p=0.001, indicating a relationship between the two cytomorphological features. The results also showed a relationship between TBLN with dark specks cytomorphology with a history of allergies (p=0.038), and there was a relationship between the presence of eosinophils and a history of allergies (p=0.001). Conclusion.  Tuberculous lymphadenitis with dark specks cytomorphology was significantly associated with eosinophils and a history of atopy. Data riwayat atopi diukur dengan pengisian kuesioner standar The International Study of Asthma and Allergies in Childhood (ISAAC).

Abstract

Cervical cancer (CC) is still one of the most common malignant tumors in women worldwide. Malignant tumors are known for evading immune surveillance. In cervical lesions, the mechanism has received less attention. Evasion of immune surveillance through a variety of mechanisms; one of which is the immune checkpoint pathway has attracted interest because it can be therapeutically targeted, the programmed cell death 1 (PD-1) pathway that tumor cells use to block antitumoral immune responses. Increasing the prevalence of PD-L1 expression in up to 80% of cervical malignancies, there is a significant indication using immunotherapy to maintain the immune response against malignancies. The purpose of this literature review is to examine the potential role of immune checkpoint inhibitors in the treatment of cervical neoplastic lesions, by reviewing articles on cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and cervical cancer that carried out histopathological and immunohistochemical examination PD-L1 as well as immunotherapy treatment with anti-PD-L1. There were 10 articles were found to be associated with anti-PD-1/PD-L1 immunotherapy. In conclusion, PD-L1 is a potential therapeutic target in cervical cancer

Abstract

Abstract: Cervical cancer is a malignant tumour that grows on the cervix, more than 90% of which are caused by HPV 16 and 18. lymphocytes are one of the immune systems that play a role in immunosurveillance against cancer cells. However, cervical cancer will cause necrosis and activate Hypoxia-Inducible Factor-1 (HIF-1) which plays a role in the formation of neovascularization. Based on histopathological findings, cervical cancer types are classified into squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) and adenocarcinoma (ADC). This study aimed to determine the relationship between necrosis, neovascularization, and lymphocyte reaction in various histopathological types of cervical cancer. This research is observational analysis using medical records and histopathological slides of patients diagnosed with cervical cancer. There were 26 cases of cervical cancer consisting of 16 types of SCC and 12 types of ADC. Based on the highest percentage, more necrosis was found in ADC 81.8% (p-value 0.014), neovascularization in SCC 73.3% (p-value 0.014), and lymphocyte reaction in SCC 86.7% (p-value 0.973). This means that there was a significant relationship between necrosis and lymphocyte reaction in various histopathological types of cervical cancer, however, there is no significant relationship between neovascularization in various histopathological types of cervical cancer.
