Abstract

A lack of empathy can negatively impact children's moral and social development in the future. To address this issue, innovative instructional strategies and media are required to foster empathy values from an early age in primary education. This study aims to develop and evaluate the effectiveness of animated video media based on local storytelling to enhance elementary students’ empathetic awareness. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Borg and Gall model. The participants were fifth-grade elementary school students. Data were collected through expert validation, observation, and pretest–posttest assessments, using validation sheets and empathy awareness tests as instruments. The data were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics. The expert validation results indicated that the developed animated media is highly suitable for use in learning, in terms of content accuracy, language clarity, visual presentation, and character value integration. The effectiveness test showed a significant improvement in students’ empathy awareness, with a significance value of 0.000 < 0.005. These findings demonstrate that the animated video media is not only effective in fostering empathy but also in integrating local cultural values into character education. The study implies the importance of developing digital learning media that is both contextual and culturally grounded as an alternative approach to strengthening character education at the primary level.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in elementary schools often faces persistent challenges arising from the heterogeneity of students’ abilities and learning needs, which frequently hinder the achievement of optimal learning outcomes. Although differentiated instruction has been widely recognized as a promising pedagogical approach for addressing learner diversity, empirical evidence on its effectiveness in mathematics education at the elementary level particularly within the Indonesian context remains limited. This study contributes to filling this gap by examining the impact of differentiated instruction on the mathematics learning outcomes of elementary school students. Employing a quantitative approach with a pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design, the study involved 43 purposively selected fifth-grade students from SDN Belendung III during the 2023/2024 academic year. Data were collected through pretest and posttest essay assessments consisting of 10 items and analyzed using SPSS version 24 with a paired sample t-test. The analysis revealed a significant improvement in students’ learning outcomes, with a calculated t-value of 42.187 exceeding the critical value of 2.02, thereby confirming the positive effect of differentiated instruction. These findings highlight the potential of adaptive teaching practices to enhance students’ conceptual understanding and problem-solving skills in mathematics. The study underscores the importance of implementing evidence-based differentiation strategies to promote more inclusive and effective mathematics instruction. The results also provide a foundation for future research to investigate the long-term sustainability of differentiated instruction, its role in shaping students’ attitudes toward mathematics, and the comparative efficacy of specific differentiation techniques.

Abstract

Sisingaan is an art originating from Sunda Land, which is more precisely in Subang Regency, West Java. This art emerged from the time of the Dutch colonialists in Indonesia, where the initial purpose of this art was to show the manifestation of resistance to the invaders, which at that time the people of Subang were colonized by the Dutch colonialists. However, as time goes by, the art of Subang develops and preserves into the art ofSubang which is usually displayed at circumcision events in the Subang area. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative with ethnopedagogic approach. Where ethnopedagogy is an approach in education that is based on culture (local wisdom) and emphasizes the importance of human relations which aims toexamine the pedagogical dimension through a sociological perspective of pedagogy. Data collection techniques are: 1) literature review by reviewing relevant literature such as articles in journals, youtube and books and various research results on Sisingaan; 2) On December 1, 2021, conduct direct interviews with sources with Kang Anggis as a comparison and increase knowledge about Sisingaan which is a typical art originating from Subang, followed by observations and documentation of artistic observations to the actors of Sisingaan art. The results of the study can be concluded that Sisingaan art is an art that emerged and developed in the Tanah Sunda area, namely in Subang Regency. Which was originally as a manifestation of resistance to Dutch colonialism. But over time this art developed into an art that is usually found in circumcision activities. Hopefully in the future Sisingan art will remain sustainable and become a cultural heritage in Subang Regency.

Abstract

This bibliometric analysis investigates the evolution and thematic structuring of research concerning the implementation of character education in school curricula. Utilizing data sourced from major academic databases from 1893 to 2024, this study maps out the academic discourse through VOSviewer. Our findings identify distinct thematic clusters such as curriculum integration, ethical considerations, and the role of character education within religious and civic education. Temporal trends indicate a shift from foundational discussions to a focus on the implicit dimensions of character education, such as the hidden curriculum and character-building across educational levels. Potential future research opportunities were identified in less explored areas such as independent and culturally specific curricula. The analysis of the author collaboration network reveals a robust community with significant interconnections among key scholars, highlighting both dense clusters and emerging researchers. Overall, this study offers a comprehensive overview of the field, demonstrating its dynamic evolution and the collaborative nature of research that contributes to ongoing debates and educational practices in character education. This work not only charts historical and current trends but also provides direction for future scholarly endeavors in this vital area of educational research.
