Abstract

Behavior about clean and healthy living in educational institutions is an effort to empower students, teachers and the community in the school environment to know, want to do and be able to practice a set of behaviors on the basis of awareness as learning outcomes, so that they are independently able to prevent disease, improve their health, and play an active role in creating a healthy environment . Behavior regarding clean and healthy living is an indicator of achievement in improving health in the 2015-2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) program. In the SDGs, behavior regarding clean and healthy living is one of the prevention strategies with short-term impacts for improving health in regional settings, namely schools, families and communities. During the COVID-19 pandemic, school-age children and adolescents were at risk of contracting COVID-19 due to their high activity and tendency to group. However, due to their good immune system, often COVID-19 in this group shows no symptoms or only mild symptoms, so they are often ignored and have the potential to spread to people around them. The impact of COVID-19 on school-age children and adolescents can affect their physical and mental health. Based on the description above, the authors conducted research on the effect of implementing UKS activities on Clean and Healthy Behavior. This research is a quantitative research with a correlation study design with the type of research used is Analytical Observational. The research was conducted at Middle School 2 Kualuh Leidong, North Labuhan Batu Regency, North Sumatra Province in March -May 2022 with a sample size of 70 respondents. Sampling in this study used a probability sampling technique with proportional stratified sampling. Data analysis in this study includes Univariate and Bivariate Analysis with the provision that if ρ ≤ α 0.05 then there is an influence or relationship between the two variables. The results of the study obtained a p value of 0.000 which means that there is an influence of the School Health Business program on Clean and Healthy Behavior. It is hoped that the puskesmas staff will socialize the school health program and activity plan, complete facilities that support clean and healthy behavior and further increase school involvement and collaboration with parties related to the implementation of activity programs or clean and healthy living in the working area of the Tanjung Leidong community health center.

Abstract

Background: Based on data from the World Health Organization in 2015, the number of maternal deaths is around 2.7 million cases, perineal rupture in delivering mothers, this figure is estimated to reach 6.3 million by the year 2050, some of which are caused by perineal wounds. According to the Demographic and Health Survey data in Indonesia in 2017, the maternal mortality rate is 305/100,000 live births caused by infections, including those in perineal wounds. The maternal mortality rate in various provinces in Indonesia has decreased from 4,226 to 4,221. In 2019, the highest maternal mortality rate was attributed to hemorrhage (30.3%) and postpartum infection (5%) (Indonesian Health Profile, 2019). One of the indicators to reduce maternal mortality during childbirth is preventive efforts undertaken during the postpartum period. These efforts include both medical and traditional treatments. Traditional wound treatment using natural ingredients such as red betel leaf, turmeric tamarind concoction, binahong, etc., has been proven to have chemical components that can kill Staphylococcus aureus bacteria and Candida Albicans fungus, thereby accelerating the healing process (Sari, 2017). Red Betel Leaf (Piper Crocatum) is a very popular traditional remedy and is most commonly found in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze the Effectiveness of Red Betel Leaf Decoction on Healing Perineal Wounds of Degree II at the PPK 1 Clinic, 1st Yonkes 1 Kostrad Bogor, West Java in 2023. Method: This is a quantitative study using quasi-experimental methods, which includes a control group. The research design used is a posttest-only control group design. The population of this study is all postpartum mothers at the PPK 1 Clinic, 1st Yonkes 1 Kostrad Bogor, West Java, who experienced perineal tears from March to June 2023, with a sample size of 30 postpartum mothers, divided into 15 experimental groups and 15 control groups. In this study, sampling was done using a non-probability sampling approach, specifically purposive sampling. Results: The statistical test results yielded a p-value of 0.024 (p<0.05), indicating a significant difference between the average healing time of perineal wounds in the intervention group and the control group. Conclusion: There is a significant difference between the average healing time of perineal wounds in the intervention group and the control group. It is hoped that this can become an alternative choice for non-pharmacological treatment and serve as an evaluation material regarding the influence of red betel leaf decoction on perineal wound healing, thus it is recommended for midwives to enhance education to postpartum mothers on the use of red betel leaf as a means of treating perineal wounds.

Abstract

Cases of anemia caused by malnutrition, especially iron deficiency anemia, reach 75%. The prevalence of iron and other micronutrient deficiencies is a serious problem in developing countries. The incidence of anemia or lack of blood among pregnant women in Indonesia is still relatively high, at 48.9%. Anemia is closely related to malnutrition, which is a multifactorial influence and interaction between food intake and frequency of infection. The prevalence of anemia among pregnant women at the Bandar Kalipah Community Health Center was recorded at 24.9%. The community service method applied in this activity directly involves families in efforts to reduce the incidence of anemia in pregnant women, through lectures, counseling, discussions, and training. As an initial step, a pre-test and post-test analysis was carried out to measure family knowledge about anemia, in order to ensure an increase in family knowledge and participation in efforts to prevent anemia. The knowledge of pregnant women's families before (pre-test) and after (post-test) being given education on preventing anemia through family-based education showed good results, with a percentage of good knowledge of 23.29% in the pre-test and increasing to 92.0% in the post-test. Sufficient knowledge was recorded at 24.70%, while low knowledge decreased to 3.00%. This activity aims to provide education to families who accompany pregnant women and is carried out repeatedly and consistently in Bandar Khalifah Village, where pregnant women must be accompanied by their families during pregnancy check-ups. This activity was carried out in October 2024 by providing education on the causes of anemia, the process of anemia, prevention of anemia, and proper treatment for anemia. With this activity, there was an increase in knowledge, attitudes, and experience for families of pregnant women in efforts to prevent anemia.

Abstract

Background: Early menopause (before age 45) increases risks of osteoporosis, cardiovascular disease, and reduced quality of life. Although hormonal therapy is effective, its adverse effects have driven interest in safer alternatives. However, evidence on community-based herbal interventions for preventing early menopause is scarce in Indonesia. This study examined the effectiveness of Cymbopogon citratus (lemongrass) decoction as a low-cost, non-hormonal preventive therapy for early menopause. Methods: This parallel two-arm randomized controlled trial, conducted in Perbulan Village, Karo Regency, involved 30 women aged 40–45 years, randomly assigned to an intervention group receiving lemongrass decoction and a control group. Participants consumed 250 ml of decoction daily for 30 days. Menopausal symptoms were measured using the Menopause Rating Scale (MRS) and menstrual cycle regularity was recorded. Data were analyzed with the Mann–Whitney U test following the CONSORT 2010 guidelines, with statistical significance set at p < 0.05 and 95% confidence intervals (CI) reported. Ethical approval was obtained from the institutional review board. Results: Mean MRS scores in the intervention group decreased significantly from 20.5 ± 2.0 to 13.4 ± 1.6 (p < 0.001, 95% CI [5.7, 8.4], d = 1.45, large effect), while the control group showed no significant change. Menstrual cycle regularity improved in 73.3% of intervention participants compared with 13.3% in controls (p < 0.001). Compliance was high (86.7%) and no adverse events were reported. Conclusion: Lemongrass decoction effectively reduced menopausal symptoms and regulated menstrual cycles, supporting its use as a safe, acceptable, and affordable non-hormonal option for community-based women’s health promotion. The findings suggest potential integration of herbal therapy education into midwifery and public health programs to strengthen preventive reproductive care.
