Abstract

This study examines the role of the Ngitus Bali customary law in Murutuwu Village, Central Kalimantan, as a social control mechanism that continues to be upheld despite the influence of modernity and positive law. The Ngitus Bali customary law, involving traditional leaders such as the Pangulu and Mantir, is used to resolve various social disputes, ranging from household issues to land conflicts, with sanctions and reconciliation ceremonies as part of the practice. Although formal laws have been implemented in the village, the community still relies on resolving disputes through customary courts, which is considered more relevant and effective in maintaining social harmony. This research uses a qualitative approach with interviews and observations to explore the community's understanding of customary law and its role in maintaining social stability. The findings indicate that Ngitus Bali functions as a form of social control that strengthens social order and preserves cosmic balance within the Dayak Ma’anyan community in Murutuwu Village.

Abstract

Abstract

Purpose: Startups in Indonesia have experienced rapid growth over the past decade but face significant challenges in retaining talent due to organizational dynamics and evolving employee expectations. This study explores employee retention strategies implemented by Indonesian startups by examining current human resource management practices. Methodology: A qualitative approach was employed, using semi-structured interviews with HR leaders and decision-makers from ten high-growth startups in Jakarta, Bandung, and Surabaya. Results: The study identified key retention strategies including meaning-driven work culture, flexible work arrangements, equity-based compensation, and individualized career pathways. Startups that aligned HR initiatives with intrinsic motivation and employee well-being reported higher retention rates. Founder-led engagement, agile feedback loops, and cross-functional mobility were also notable as innovative HR practices in the startup context. Conclusions: Retention in Indonesian startups is significantly enhanced through HR strategies that prioritize intrinsic motivators and employee well-being, particularly in competitive talent environments. Limitations: The study’s qualitative nature and geographic focus on three cities may limit broader generalization across Indonesia's diverse startup ecosystem. Contribution: This study offers practical insights into effective HR strategies for talent retention in emerging market startups, emphasizing founder involvement and adaptive HR innovations.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the improvement in mathematical problem-solving skills between students using a contextual approach and those using conventional learning. The research focuses on the Initial Mathematical Ability (KAM) category of high-ability students. A quasi-experimental design was employed, with a non-equivalent pre- and post-test control group. The Two-Way Anova test was utilized for data analysis, with a significance value of 0.003. The results showed a significant difference in improving mathematical problem-solving ability between the two groups. The contextual approach proved particularly beneficial for high-ability students. However, it is essential to consider other factors influencing improvement. This study provides insights into effective mathematics instruction, emphasizing the importance of relevant and applicable learning experiences to enhance problem-solving abilities. Further research should explore long-term effects and adaptation for students with varying initial abilities. These findings contribute to developing more effective mathematics curricula and learning strategies, ultimately improving students' problem-solving skills.

Abstract

This quasi-experimental study investigates the effect of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integration within an online platform on the mathematical literacy of 32 pre-service mathematics teachers at Majalengka University, Indonesia. Utilizing purposive sampling and categorizing participants based on their mathematical ability, the study assessed the impact of PjBL on enhancing mathematical literacy in real-world contexts. The one-group pretest-posttest design was adopted, and statistical analyses were performed using paired sample t-tests and one-way ANOVA. The results demonstrated a significant increase in post-test mathematical literacy scores, with initial mathematical ability positively correlating with these scores. A post hoc Least Significant Difference (LSD) test further highlighted significant differences across various initial mathematical ability levels. The study concludes that PjBL is an effective strategy for improving mathematical literacy, reflecting a meaningful distinction in pre-service primary school teachers' pretest and post-test scores. The research offers valuable insights into enhancing mathematical literacy in Indonesia, emphasizing the relevance of PjBL, particularly in the context of the pandemic, and preparing future educators to meet global challenges.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the largest countries globally with an area for planting sugarcane. The current problem is that determining the planting area of sugarcane is still done conventionally; this is very limited and wastes time. Thus, knowing the sugarcane planting area becomes essential for policymaking through Remote Sensing technology. However, the challenge of Remote Sensing is the limited data due to weather and the spectral variability of other plants. So, it is necessary to classify based on phenological knowledge. The study aims to classify sugarcane areas based on phenological knowledge using Remote Sensing and Machine Learning. This application finished on the cloud platform Google Earth Engine (GEE) through Landsat 8 satellite imagery data. The knowledge of sugarcane phenology was built based on the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) spectral value and built with the harmonic model. In addition, classification is accomplished by object-oriented (OO) methods for segmentation classification. Object-oriented is solved by the Simple Non-Iterative Clustering (SNIC) algorithm for spatial cluster identification, the Gray-Level Co-occurrence Matrix (GLCM) for texture extraction, and the Random Forest algorithm for Land Use-Land Cover (LULC) classification. The results of the accuracy analysis using the confusion matrix and the classification of sugar cane areas based on phenological knowledge obtained the best results with an overall accuracy of 95.9% with a Kappa coefficient of 0.92. It can be concluded that a classification approach with knowledge of plant phenology can help better classify the availability of land for plantations in the future.
