Abstract

Background: Early detection of suspected pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) cases is essential to reduce transmission and improve treatment outcomes. However, case detection efforts at the community level may be limited by various individual and service-related factors. Objective: This study aimed to analyze factors associated with efforts to detect suspected pulmonary TB cases in the working area of Olak Kemang Public Health Center in 2024. Methods: An analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted among 120 respondents living in the health center coverage area. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire covering sociodemographic characteristics and factors related to TB suspected-case detection efforts. Univariate analysis was used to describe respondent characteristics, and bivariate analysis using the Chi-square test was applied to assess the association between independent variables and detection efforts, with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The majority of respondents were female (62.5%) and aged 25–44 years (48.3%). Bivariate analysis showed that education level (p=0.006), exposure to TB-related information (p=0.001), knowledge about TB (p<0.001), attitude toward TB screening (p<0.001), access to health services (p=0.002), and perceived stigma (p<0.001) were significantly associated with efforts to detect suspected pulmonary TB cases. Meanwhile, sex (p=0.458) and age (p=0.291) were not significantly associated with detection efforts. Conclusion: Efforts to detect suspected pulmonary TB cases were strongly influenced by modifiable factors including education, information exposure, knowledge, attitude, service accessibility, and stigma. Strengthening TB health education, expanding community outreach, improving access to services, and reducing stigma are recommended to enhance early detection and support TB control programs.

Abstract

Background: The rapid development of internet technology presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly internet addiction among adolescents, which impacts health, education, and social stability. In Indonesia, over 90% of adolescents are internet users, raising significant concerns. This study aims to determine the prevalence of internet addiction and identify contributing sociodemographic, behavioral, and psychosocial factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 143 students from SMA Islam Al Azhar 8 Bekasi, selected through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a validated Internet Addiction Questionnaire and analyzed with bivariate and multivariate methods. Results: The prevalence of internet addiction was 34.27%. Significant factors included frequent violations of parental internet usage limits (OR=6.70; CI 95%: 1.76–25.56; p=0.005) and lack of participation in religious activities (OR=3.31; CI 95%: 1.09–10.04; p=0.034), indicating that weak parental control and low religious involvement increase the risk of internet addiction. Conclusion: Parental supervision, family support, and adolescent engagement in religious and social activities are crucial preventive measures. Interventions focusing on self-regulation, parental monitoring, and balanced internet use are recommended to reduce addiction risks.

Abstract

HIV/AIDS infection (ODHIV) remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia. One of the main challenges in managing HIV/AIDS is adherence to antiretroviral (ARV) therapy among ODHIV. Low adherence can lead to drug resistance, decreased quality of life, and increased risk of virus transmission. Factors influencing ARV adherence include stigma, discrimination, and the knowledge of ODHIV about the therapy. Education was conducted through group counseling, starting with a pre-test to assess participants' knowledge about HIV treatment. After the pre-test, a counseling session on "The Importance of ARV Adherence for People Living with HIV" was held, concluding with a post-test. A total of 27 participants took part in this activity, with the majority being male (59%) and the largest age group being 20-30 years (41%). Pre-test results indicated that 44% of participants had a low initial understanding. However, post-test results showed a significant improvement; 37% of participants scored in the 71-80 range, and another 37% scored in the 81-90 range. These results indicate that the education provided successfully enhanced participants' understanding of the importance of ARV adherence. Despite the improvements, challenges remain regarding adherence, particularly for those lacking family support. This highlights the need for additional strategies to enhance social support for ODHIV. Participation in this activity was predominantly male, with most participants having a high school education. The post-test results confirmed a significant increase in understanding compared to the pre-test. Puskesmas and community health workers should conduct regular monitoring and evaluation of ARV adherence to prevent loss to follow-up in treatment.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a growing public health concern worldwide, including in Indonesia. The Indonesian Chronic Disease Management Program (PROLANIS) aims to empower individuals and families affected by DM through community-based health education. This study employed an educational intervention delivered through a counseling session on the importance of family medicine principles and dietary management for DM patients. A pre-test was administered to assess the participants' baseline knowledge, followed by the educational session, and concluded with a post-test. A total of 37 participants were involved in this activity, the majority of whom were middle-aged women with a senior high school level of education. Pre-test results indicated that 57% of participants had a low level of understanding. However, the post-test revealed a significant improvement, with 76% of participants achieving a score in the 6-10 range. Nevertheless, some participants still required further guidance. Despite the observed increase in knowledge, the application of family medicine principles within the PROLANIS program in the working area of the Rawasari Community Health Center remains suboptimal. The active engagement of participants during the question-and-answer session highlighted the need for additional support in implementing these principles. The educational program successfully enhanced participants' understanding of diabetes management. However, continuous monitoring and periodic evaluation by the Community Health Center and community health workers (cadres) are necessary to improve the application of family medicine principles within the PROLANIS program in its designated area.
