Abstract

Introduction: As agents of change, university students require two supporting factors, namely physical fitness and academic performance. Students with low VO₂MAX values experience decreased learning outcomes and low levels of fitness, with one influencing factor being smoking habits. Smoking habits affect cardiovascular endurance due to the nicotine content in cigarettes, which can damage the lungs. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between smoking intensity and VO₂MAX among students. Methods: This correlation study employed an analytical observational method with a cross-sectional design. Purposive sampling was used to select 40 participants. The Cooper Test was used as the measurement tool. Data were analysed using the Spearman rank correlation. Results: The analysis of the relationship between smoking intensity and VO₂MAX using the Spearman rank test yielded a p-value of 0.01 (p < 0.05). This result shows a significant relationship between smoking intensity and VO₂MAX values. The correlation coefficient was -0.741, which indicates a strong statistical relationship between the variables. Conclusion: There is a relationship between smoking intensity and Maximum Oxygen Consumption (VO₂MAX) values among students.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to examine the effectiveness of contextual teaching and learning (CTL) approach to improve writing skill of the tenth grade students at MAN Insan Cendekia Kota Palu. The research employs pre- experimental research design. The population of this research is Grade X students at MAN Insan Cendekia Kota Palu, and the sample is Grade X Al-Qolam, consisting of 20 students. The researcher employs purposive sampling technique and takes one-group pre-test and post-test. The pre-test is administered to assess the student’s writing ability through the CTL Approach and to determine whether the class is equal or not in terms of their writing achievement before the treatment is given, and the post-test is used to administer students’ writing skill achievement after receiving the treatment. The result of the data analysis indicates that there is a significant difference in the students’ achievement in pre-test and post-test. It shows that the mean score of pre-test is ( 60.59) and the mean score of post-test is (76.33). The sig value (Asymp. 2-tailed) is 0.000, which is smaller than the p-value = 0.05, indicating that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. Thus, the contextual teaching and learning approach is effective in improving the writing skill of grade X students at MAN Insan Cendekia Kota Palu.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in villages have great potential to support the local economy, but they still face various challenges, such as the lack of business legality and weak product branding. In Merangin Village, Kampar Regency, most MSME actors run their businesses informally without a Business Identification Number (NIB), have unsystematic financial records, and use unattractive product packaging. This activity aims to strengthen the capacity of MSMEs through intensive training and mentoring that covers business legality, basic management, and branding design. The methods used include theoretical material delivery, practical simulations, and collaboration between lecturers and Kukerta students in providing personal assistance to participants. The results show that participants were able to understand and register for NIBs through the OSS platform, prepare a Business Model Canvas (BMC), calculate the cost of production (HPP), and conduct simple financial recording. In addition, participants also succeeded in designing product logos and packaging that are more appealing by utilizing online design applications. This activity proves that a collaborative and practical approach is highly effective in improving the knowledge and skills of village MSMEs, enabling them to be better prepared to compete in broader markets and operate with formal legality.
