Abstract

Abstract. Relize or not, advertising is very close to human life. Mass media can display tens or even hundreds of advertisements every day. Therefore, effective and attractive advertisements are needed to attract customers. In general, advertising uses the hard selling method, but now it has turned into soft selling, which does not introduce or sell products directly. Therefore, this research will discuss the representation of customer loyalty in AQUA's advertisement "Sambut Kebaikan Ramadan Bersama AQUA". The method used is qualitative with Roland Barthes semiotic analysis. The results of this study show that AQUA's advertisement "Sambut Kebaikan Ramadan Bersama AQUA'' successfully portrays customer loyalty through the usage of strong signs and hidden meanings. At the denotative level, this AQUA advertisement presents an image of loyal AQUA customers who consume AQUA products joyfully during Ramadan. At the connotative level, this advertisement connects the usage of AQUA products with the values of kindness, spirituality, and brotherhood associated with Ramadan. At the mythological level, this AQUA advertisement builds a narrative that describes AQUA’s customers as part of a solid and loving community. In this context, customer loyalty is represented as a form of adherence to the values embraced by the community, which is signified by the consumption of AQUA’s products. Keywords: Advertisement, Representation, Loyalty, Semiotic

Abstract

This research examines the adaptation and diffusion of technological innovation in the Kesepuhan Ciptagelar Indigenous Community. This study aims to determine the diffusion process of technological innovation and the role of Kesepuhan in Ciptagelar in encouraging the application of technology by the needs and customary norms there. The descriptive qualitative method was used to describe the process of innovation diffusion in the application and development of technology in Cipta Gelar Kesepuhan. M. Rogers' innovation diffusion theory is the basis of analysis in this research which has four main elements in the innovation diffusion process: innovation, communication channels, time, and social systems. The research results show that the Ciptagelar Kesepuhan has considered the four main elements of innovation diffusion in encouraging technological adaptation and development. The Ciptagelar Kesepuhan uses a strategy that maximizes the use of the opinion of the leader, namely the Chief Adat, who is assisted hierarchically by the leadership structure there. Community media (CIGA TV and Radio Swarsa Cipta Gelar) and grand deliberations in Ciptagelar are also used as interpersonal communication utilized for communication channels. Those messages are also processed by considering the characteristics of an innovation. The obstacles in adapting innovations or technology depend on the need for benefits and compatibility with customary norms as the basis for applying technology in Kesepuhan Ciptagelar.

Abstract

Farmer competence is the ability of farmers to think, behave, and act in managing farming businesses. The competence can involve various stakeholders (actors) and types of farmers’ competencies. Therefore, this study investigates the role of stakeholders in farmers' competencies and assesses the rank of farmers’ competencies in Magelang Regency (highland) and Pati Regency (lowland). Both regions have a significant number of millennial farmers in Central Java Province. The sample for this study was 12 people (institutions) selected using purposive sampling. They provided their perceptions of farmer competencies through in-depth interviews. The interviews were conducted during July–August 2023. MACTOR and AHP methods were applied to measure the stakeholders’ role and rank the types of farmer competencies. The findings reveal that all actors agreed on developing farmer competencies through collaboration and business partnerships. Some stakeholders have the strongest level of convergence, consisting of local government agricultural agencies, local government industry agencies, farmer communities, and the banking industries. In contrast, the strongest divergence occurs with sellers of agricultural products and local public figures. In addition, the ranking or priority of farmer competencies from the top is innovative, communication, and entrepreneurial competencies. Policy implications emphasize increasing the level of collaboration and partnership between agricultural business stakeholders and local governments to enhance and guarantee the quality of farmer competencies.

This study uses  the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method. Researchers found 127 Scopus articles in a search using Science Direct and with the help of Mendeley and VOSViewer which were  then filtered into 18 articles to be analyzed descriptively. The findings show that lack of communication should not be a reason why Deaf parents cannot have access or information about their children. And appreciate that hearing children or Children of Deaf Adults or CODA have different ways of communicating with Deaf parents, the Deaf community and the hearing or non-Deaf community.

Abstract

Social media has revolutionized communication, creating new spaces for interaction and expression. This study examines the Stray Kids Yogyakarta community on Twitter (@straykids_YK), a fanbase for the South Korean idol group Stray Kids, established in December 2017. Although interaction on Twitter is limited, community organizers try to increase engagement by providing information about upcoming events and joint projects with other fanbase accounts, hoping to increase community awareness. This research, based on qualitative and case study methods, explores the role of the Stray Kids Yogyakarta community through interviews with administrators and community members. The study revealed that the Stray Kids Yogyakarta community thrives through active communication on WhatsApp, Instagram, and in-person meetings, despite limited Twitter engagement. Interviews highlighted that while Twitter needs improvement, the community is vibrant and well-connected, showing strong adaptability and dedication among fans. This indicates the community's ability to maintain robust connections and engagement across multiple platforms.

Abstract

Abstract

The study of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) phenomenon has developed rapidly in recent years by placing various multi-disciplinary perspectives including Communication. The question then arises, how to study the AI phenomenon with a Communication approach? What kind of communication theories can be used to explain the AI phenomenon? Can the existing perspective of communication theory, which emphasizes the notion of communication as an interaction in which two communicators, using some medium of communication, move towards a better understanding of each other through the exchange of messages, still be used? Is the communication theory domain in terms of elements, levels and contexts of communication still relevant to studying the AI phenomenon? Is there a possibility of developing a new group of theories in studying AI phenomena?. This paper will provide an inspiring perspective on the development of a group of communication theories called "Beyond Human Communication" (Littlejohn, 2021). This broader view of communication includes interactions between humans and other animate and inanimate entities. It provides opportunities to examine different ways and different reasons for communicating. AI phenomena in the "Beyond Human Communication" theoretical domain can be explained through what is referred to as "human-machine communication". Understanding the theoretical domain of "Beyond Human Communication" places the study of the AI phenomenon into a special study in Communication science.
