Abstract

The @txtdrberseragam Twitter account is a Twitter account that contains a variety of news, complaints, and frustrations about uniformed officers, including the police. Researcher found that this account may be influencing the public's perception of the police. This study aims to determine the cultivation process that occurs in the @txtdrberseragam Twitter account against the image of the police in society. The researcher is interested in conducting this research because social media has now become a staple for society, so it can influence the way people think, perceive, and behave. This study was conducted using a mixed method (mixed) with content analysis techniques and in-depth interviews with a number of informants. A total of 68 contents (tweets and retweets) of the @txtdrberseragam account posted from June 1 to 29, 2023 were taken as samples for analysis. Next, 11 followers of the account were selected using purposive sampling to be interviewed as informants. The researcher used the constructivism paradigm to seek out the possible realities that exist and understand how the process of someone's interpretation of something works. The result of the study is the fact that a subjective reality is formed in the eyes of the public who view the police as a bad figure. The existence of the @txtdrberseragam Twitter account directly influences public perception through the media exposure that occurs. In addition, there are other factors such as personal experience, the credibility of the information source, which also contribute to the formation of the existing subybjective reality.

Abstract

There are many methods used in product marketing in the current digital communication era. One of them is by joining groups or online communities that are relevant to the product to be offered through active participation, making contributions, and building the reputation of the intended group. Effective marketing in this era can be done through symbolic convergence. The use of language in marketing that is creative, imaginative, and at the same time evocative and binds the intended community together. This article describes and analyzes how marketing on NCT Dream's 'ISTJ' album is associated with Symbolic Convergence Theory. This research method is conducted qualitatively. First, analyze the content of marketing messages in digital media used in this case through Instagram social media, then continue by looking at NCTzen comments on the messages conveyed. The research results show that the fantasy theme, which contains creative messages with the ability to dramatize in album marketing, has caused a fantasy chain reaction among the NCT Dream fan community. The power of a message containing a fantasy theme will strengthen the unity and cohesiveness of NCT Dream fans, called NCTzens, as well as being a way of digital products marketing in their latest album launch.

Abstract

The advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has fundamentally transformed the way humans communicate. This study aims to explore the role of AI in interpersonal communication through a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach. By analyzing 44 relevant scholarly articles, this study identifies eight key themes: AI-mediated interpersonal communication, emotional impact, communication effectiveness and efficiency, access gaps and digital ethics, information validity, social trust, social representation and algorithmic bias, and projections of future communication. The findings indicate that AI can enhance communication efficiency and accessibility, yet poses risks of fostering pseudo-intimacy, reinforcing social bias, and diminishing the quality of interpersonal relationships if not ethically governed. The study underscores the importance of ethical-by-design principles, digital literacy, and regulatory frameworks that protect users from the misuse of AI-based communication systems. It advocates for an interdisciplinary and human-centered approach in the development of communication technologies to ensure that AI serves as a meaningful, inclusive, and responsible partner in human interaction. Accordingly, this research contributes conceptually to a deeper understanding of the future of communication situated at the intersection of technological advancement and human values

Abstract

Penggunaan pakaian bekas sering dikaitkan dengan ekonomi sirkular yang didasarkan pada mode berkelanjutan. Penggunaan pakaian bekas yang lebih banyak dapat membantu mengurangi limbah fesyen. Di negara-negara berpenghasilan menengah seperti Indonesia, minat terhadap pakaian bekas impor semakin tinggi. Meskipun ada larangan dari pemerintah, perdagangan pakaian bekas impor masih populer di daerah perkotaan. Dalam tren ini, menarik untuk melihat apakah praktik penggunaan pakaian bekas berhubungan dengan dukungan terhadap fesyen berkelanjutan atau tidak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk melihat karakteristik dan preferensi pengguna pakaian bekas dan kaitannya dengan fesyen berkelanjutan. Penelitian ini didasarkan pada penelitian kualitatif di kota Jambi, salah satu daerah dengan jumlah pengguna pakaian bekas yang tinggi di Indonesia. Data untuk penelitian ini berasal dari wawancara mendalam dengan 10 pengguna pakaian bekas (penjual atau pembeli) di kota tersebut. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas pengguna pakaian bekas impor di kota Jambi adalah anak muda dan wanita dewasa (ibu rumah tangga). Pengguna pakaian bekas di Jambi berasal dari berbagai status sosial ekonomi, tidak lagi identik dengan masyarakat menengah ke bawah. Meskipun banyak anak muda dan kalangan menengah ke atas yang menjadi pengguna pakaian bekas, namun tidak ditemukan perilaku berkelanjutan yang mengarah pada kesadaran akan fesyen berkelanjutan. Terdapat fenomena transformasi tempat penjualan pakaian bekas dari yang awalnya sederhana (tenda-tenda non permanen) menjadi seperti butik dan toko-toko permanen. Sebagian besar pengguna pakaian bekas impor di kota Jambi tidak memahami fesyen berkelanjutan. Motif utama penggunaan pakaian bekas di Jambi terutama karena alasan ekonomi (harga murah) dan kualitas (barang bermerek).

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (AI) studies how to make computers do the same or even better than humans. In the academic world, the convenience created by AI can only be separated from negative impacts if its use is balanced with an understanding of its users. Potential ethical violations in writing scientific papers lurk if AI is not understood with clear boundaries. Plagiarism, data validity, and personal data security are potential ethical violations among students when using AI in writing work. Responding to the existing concerns, the Research Group Media, Audiences and Socio-Cultural Systems of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Sebelas Maret University held a workshop entitled Building Scientific Awareness: Artificial Intelligence in the Ethics of Writing Work among Communication Science Students at Muhammadiyah Ponorogo University. Targeting students who will enter the stage of writing their final project in the form of a thesis, Muhammadiyah Ponorogo University was chosen because it is a developing private campus that needs to be encouraged to achieve superior quality. In the workshop, students showed enthusiasm in following every material presented by the speakers. A survey conducted at the end of the session showed that students' understanding and experience could provide clear boundaries regarding the ethics of scientific writing in the era of AI technolog.

Abstract

Thrifting is defined as the consumption of used branded fashion products at a lower price, which is often associated with a person's lifestyle and identity. The purpose of this research is to find out how the role of digital marketing communication and creative content on thrifting goods to attract young people in Indonesia. This research is a qualitative research using literature review method. The results of this study show that the utilization of digital communication in thrifting marketing is done with two media. The use of Instagram as a digital communication tool is done by: (1) uploading product information, (2) means of interactive communication with consumers, (3) use of hashtag features, and (4) marketing communication. The use of e-commerce as a digital communication tool includes: (1) eWOM and (2) live streaming. The existence of social media and e-commerce has a significant impact in increasing awareness and motivation to thrift. Innovative and creative use of digital materials is needed to strengthen brand identity and increase consumer awareness, which in turn will increase sales.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of news in online media on the thoughts and behavior of a person, because the impact is very strong in shaping public opinion. This study uses theory of mass communication, news construction, netizen response, online media. The research method used quantitative descriptive analysis with online data collection techniques. Conclusion of research (1) News construction have positive effect to reporting hoax in online media, meaning that news construction which is loaded and created by online media will influence hoax news dissemination. (2) The netizen response positively affects the news of hoaxes in the online media, meaning more and more netizens respond to hoax news, hoax news will be wider. (3) News construction and netizen responses have a positive and significant influence on hoax news in media online, meaning that these two variables give a significant influence in the preaching of hoax in online media.

Abstract

This article aims to see how the three premises of Blumer's Symbolic Interactionism are able to explain thephenomenon of the Tablighi Jamaat preaching in the form of khuruj and jaulah. The question to be answeredin this article is how Tablighi Jamaat interprets the concept of da'wah (preaching), how the meaningconstructed and how the meaning maintained or modified. Using the ethnographic method, this study looks athow the three premises of Blumer Symbolic Interactionism work. Based on the findings and results of theanalysis, it was found that the construction of the meaning of da'wah in the Tablighi Jamaah was very differentfrom the general understanding of the community. According to the Tablighi Jamaat, da’wah is not a lecturebut invites others to obey the rules of Islam. The main purpose of da'wah according to the Tablighi Jamaat isnot to improve others but to improve themselves and is obligatory for every Muslim. This series of meaningfulconstructs has been built since the beginning of this movement, started by Maulana Ilyas. Long beforeMaulana Ilyas chose and maintained the madrasa as a method of da'wah while continuing to evaluate it tothe conclusion that madrasas were not the right solution to improve society as a whole. Furthermore, he appliedthe methods of da'wah and tabligh which he obtained not from social interaction, but obtained from God'sinspired inspiration. Thus, in this phenomenon, the perspective of Blumer Symbolic Interactionism seems tobe limited and unable to explain it thoroughly.

Abstract

Pesatnya perkembangan kecerdasan buatan (AI) telah mengubah lanskap komunikasi di lingkungan akademik, termasuk di kalangan mahasiswa. Mahasiswa sebagai generasi digital native menggunakan AI secara luas dalam tugas-tugas akademik, namun kerap tanpa dibarengi literasi kritis dan etis yang memadai. Dalam konteks ini, program pengabdian kepada masyarakat dilakukan untuk menyusun materi pelatihan Human-Machine Communication (HMC) yang bertujuan membekali mahasiswa dengan pemahaman konseptual dan keterampilan praktis untuk menjadi komunikator yang kritis di era digital. Penyusunan materi dilakukan secara bertahap dan kolaboratif oleh tim dari Universitas Sebelas Maret dan Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo, berbasis pendekatan needs-based dan constructivist. Materi yang dikembangkan terdiri dari empat unit utama: pengantar HMC, etika dan bias dalam AI, simulasi interaksi manusia-mesin, dan keterampilan komunikasi yang tidak tergantikan oleh AI, seperti empati dan storytelling. Proses pengembangan melibatkan identifikasi kebutuhan, studi literatur, desain modul berbasis active learning, serta validasi oleh mahasiswa dan dosen. Pelatihan direncanakan dilaksanakan pada Juni 2024 di Universitas Muhammadiyah Ponorogo. Hasil evaluasi awal menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa mengalami peningkatan kesadaran terhadap bias AI, memahami batas kemampuan mesin, dan mampu membedakan gaya komunikasi manusia dan mesin. Dengan demikian, penyusunan materi pelatihan HMC ini tidak hanya menjawab kebutuhan akademik, tetapi juga menjadi model pendidikan partisipatif yang mengintegrasikan teknologi dengan nilai-nilai komunikasi manusiawi. Materi ini dapat direplikasi sebagai bagian dari kurikulum literasi digital dan komunikasi etis di pendidikan tinggi.
