Abstract

The increasing prevalence of smoking among women globally has become a critical public health issue. World Health Organization (WHO) data shows 20 percent of women use tobacco. Women smokers face an increased risk of various diseases. Spatial studies need to be conducted as a basis for planning and providing targeted interventions to reduce the spread of diseases caused by smoking. The study aimed to determine the spatial description of smoking among women in Indonesia. This study analyzed the 2017 IDHS data and used an ecological study design with a descriptive approach and a spatial analysis model. The results are Papua was the province with the highest percentage of women smoking with no education and with the lowest de jure wealth quintile. Provinces using the Internet almost daily were Banten and East Java, and the province with women unemployed in the past 12 months before the survey was North Sulawesi. Based on the results, there are five provinces in Indonesia with a high percentage of smoking among women, assessed by education, internet access, wealth quintile, and non-working women. This study concludes that there is a need to implement smoke-free zones (SFZs), also conduct communication, information, and education (IEC) through mass media.

Abstract

Measles incident that occurred in East Java Province in 2022 is a case that has attracted quite a lot of attention. Some of the causes highlighted are the decline in immunization coverage and vitamin A supplementation since the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, in this study, a correlation analysis of MR immunization coverage and coverage of vitamin A supplementation for measles cases in East Java in 2022 was carried out using a correlation test. The data analyzed was obtained from the 2022 East Java Province Health Profile report with a population analysis unit. The analysis using the Spearman correlation test showed that the p-value between measles cases and MR1, MR 2 immunization coverage, and vitamin A supplementation was 0.039; 0.027; and 0.063. The correlation coefficient between MR1 and MR2 immunization against measles cases in East Java Province in 2022 is -0.289 and -0.316, respectively. Thus, it can be concluded that there is a correlation between measles cases and MR1 and MR2 immunization coverage in a negative direction. Still, there is no correlation between measles cases and vitamin A supplementation coverage in toddlers.

Abstract

Introduction: Pneumonia is the leading infectious cause of death among children worldwide accounting for 14% of all under-five deaths. Sidoarjo Regency has the highest incidence of toddlers with pneumonia in East Java. Aims: This study aimed to map and analyze the distribution of pneumonia cases among toddlers in the Sidoarjo Regency based on the risk factors of exclusive breastfeeding coverage, lack of nutrition status, and population density. Methods: This research was a descriptive study using secondary data obtained from the Sidoarjo Regency Health Profile in 2019, 2020, and 2021. This study’s analysis unit included all 18 sub-districts in Sidoarjo Regency. Mapping was done using QGIS software version 3.10, “A Coruña.” Results: The findings showed that the Waru Sub-district was vulnerable to the incidence of pneumonia in toddlers because, apart from consistently having a high prevalence of cases over the last three years, it was also accompanied by high-risk factors, including low coverage of exclusive breastfeeding, high incidence of undernourished toddlers, and high population density. Conclusions: It can be concluded that intervention activities such as socializing and advocating programs of exclusive breastfeeding and balanced toddler nutrition with PMT and immunization are better prioritized in Waru Sub-district.
