Abstract

This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the use of biology laboratories on student learning outcomes at SMA Negeri 1 Tikke Raya. This type of research uses a quantitative quasi-experimental design using a pretest and posttest control group design. Quantitative data are in the form of measurement results of student learning outcomes. The population in this study were all 145 students of class X of SMA Negeri 1 Tikke Raya. Sampling used a purposive sampling technique, and the sample in this study was 2 classes consisting of class X1 as the Experimental Class and X2 as the control class. Data collection techniques used observation and tests. The results showed that the use of biology laboratories proved to be more effective in improving the learning outcomes of class X students of SMA Negeri 1 Tikke Raya compared to conventional methods. The results of the analysis showed an increase in both groups, but the experimental group obtained significantly higher post-test scores, indicating that the use of laboratories had a positive effect on biology learning outcomes.

Abstract

Parenting patterns have an influence on learning outcomes. However, how much the influence and relationship level between the parenting of the parents with the student learning outcomes in Tolasty Swastyastu Middle School have not been studied. Therefore, the goals of the study is to determine the level of relationship between parenting parents with student learning outcomes and to determine the influence of parenting parents on student learning outcomes in Tolasty Swastyastu SMP. The study used a correlation method that connects the independent variable (X), parenting pattern, and dependent variable (Y), learning outcomes. The study collected 91 students from class VII A and B and class VIII A and B. Instrument of the study used a closed questionnaire consisting of 20 questions for parenting variables. An average value of even semester report was used for the student learning outcomes variable. Data was analysed with product moment correlation index. Result of the study obtained rxy = 0.825, indicating that the level of relationship between variables X (Parenting Parents) and Y (Student Learning Outcomes) is very strong. Moreover, the correlation was positively linier. Thus, it can be conluded that parenting patterns affect student learning outcomes (=68.1%).

Abstract

In higher education, scientific literacy is still a significant difficulty, especially when instruction focuses on procedural knowledge without including moral principles. The purpose of this study was to create and examine Bulletin-Integrated Character Education (BICE) as a teaching tool to improve and gauge students' scientific literacy. The requirement for educational materials that simultaneously promote character development and higher-order thinking makes this research urgent. In order to produce verified educational media, this study used a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the Hannafin and Peck paradigm. According to expert validation, the BICE media was highly reliable (Cronbach's ? = 0.88–0.92) and valid (CVI = 0.92–0.95). Strong dependability was also shown by the scientific literacy test (? = 0.92). Students who were taught PBL–BICE fared better than those who were taught PBL alone, according to inferential analysis, with a significant effect size (d = 1.12). Conceptual literacy was a strong predictor of multidimensional literacy, according to correlation and regression analyses (r = 0.71; ? = 0.48). These results suggest that in order to foster advanced scientific literacy in higher education, character-based media should be incorporated into problem-based learning.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine the effect of providing lecture recordings on students’ self-regulated learning (SRL) in online learning contexts characterized by unstable internet connectivity and limited access to course materials. A quasi-experimental pretest–posttest design was employed involving 52 students from the Biology Education Study Program at Tadulako University, with 26 students assigned to the control group and 26 to the treatment group. SRL data were collected using a questionnaire adapted from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ), comprising five subscales: metacognition, time and study environment management, effort regulation, elaboration, and help-seeking. Students in the treatment group received YouTube links to lecture recordings via WhatsApp within 24 hours after each session, whereas those in the control group attended lectures without access to the recordings. Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA), with pretest scores as the covariate, showed a significant difference in posttest composite SRL scores between the groups (F(1,49) = 32.806; p < 0.001; η²p = 0.401). Significant effects were also found for metacognition (η²p = 0.394), time management (η²p = 0.173), effort regulation (η²p = 0.153), and elaboration (η²p = 0.100), while help-seeking showed no significant difference. These findings suggest that providing lecture recordings through familiar and easily accessible platforms is an effective low-cost pedagogical strategy for enhancing students’ SRL in online learning environments with infrastructural constraints. Therefore, lecture recordings should be considered by lecturers and study program administrators when designing online instruction that supports students’ autonomous learning.
