Abstract

English lesson plan is a set of learning plans contains essential guidance for the teacher referring to English teaching material. Successful teaching is not determined by the learners’ achievement but also teaching process, which is prepared well by the teacher. It is the proof of teaching as transferring the knowledge. Referring to this case, this research was intended to find out the extent of the English lesson plan implementation by the teacher candidates of English department students as the learner of English as a foreign language. The implementation was observed engaging 65 students who were attending a microteaching class which was one of education compulsory and requirement subject at FKIP of HKBP Nommensen University. Quantitative research design was used to find out the extent of implementation English Lesson plan of the subject. The research found the level of the implementation at 15,19% at level of high, 27,69 % of moderate, 25,00% at low, and 32,11 of poor. It indicates that the English lesson plan implementation by the teacher candidates as the sample in this research was still low.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to analyze the types of illocutionary act in the Incredible 2 movie and to interpret the dominant types of illocutionary act. Searle’s theory are used by the researchers to answer the formulated research questions. This research is a qualitative research applying content or document analysis. The subject of this research is a movie entitled Incredible 2  movie The data were some scene including the illocutionary act in Incredible 2 movie. To collecting the data, the researchers downloading the movie from google, watching the film “Incredible 2” for several time, then searching for the script of the movie in the internet, watching the movie while reading the script, finding some sentences that are considered to have illocutionary act needed for the analysis and found the dominant types of illocutionary act, After collected the data, the researchers analyze the data based on some steps, classifying the illocutionary act, finding the dominant types of the illocutionary act, The findings of the research are as follows: in Incredible Movie, Searle’s theory there are 5 types of illocutionary act are found: From those types, in movie Incredible  found the types of illocutionary act as follows : directives consist of  8 data (32%), assertive consist of 7 data (28%), expressive consist of 7 data (28%), commisive consist of 2 data (8%) and declaration sonsist of 1 data(4%).

Abstract

As we know that nowadays self-reliance is very important for the students in shaping their character. Lots of students are not mature because of they are not independence. The aim of this research is to empower the teachers’ understanding in implementing self-reliance based character education to the students. Methods used in this community service were socialization with PowerPoint presentation. Then sharing session with questions and answers to the presentation presented. This presentation was continued to case exposure with some reality conditions and group discussion. The location of this community service was at SMK Swasta Teladan Tanah Jawa in Simalungun Regency. Thirty-three teachers were the participants conducted on 7-8 January 2020. After collecting all the data, the researcher found that there are some results of how teachers can help to implement the self-reliance based character education such as: 1) to be active learners, 2) encouraging students in asking question when teaching and learning process for every subject, 3) teachers’ method of teaching, 4) integrating scout or boys’ brigade in the school, 5) students’ discipline to school policy, and 6) students’ freedom in using the internet as media for learning. Though there were problems in implementing the self-reliance based character education such as parents’ encouragement to school policy and teachers’ ability to implement the self-reliance in the subject, the researchers hope that this socialization can enlighten and empower teachers in implementing the self-reliance to the students for the brighter future of the students themselves and also for the advances of country.

Abstract

This research aims to find out the students writing difficulties in recount text that faced by the students during online learning process. In performing data and data analysis qualitative research design was applied. It is based on basic interpretative analysis. It was used to describe topic related to the phenomenon happened in writing through online learning during pandemic covid-19. The object of this research was the students at tenth grade in SMA Swasta Teladan Pematangsiantar. In collecting data questionnaires were shared to 77 respondents. The research finding shows that the subjects have difficulties in writing recount text during online learning at situation of Covid-19 pandemic. The difficulties in four aspects of writing, they are sentence construction, organizing text, paragraphing aspect and text cohesion aspect. It is supported by the degree of percentage score of the questionnaires scores they are sentence construction aspect with Agree scale 55.2 %, organizing a text and paragraphing aspect with Agree scale 51.95 %, text cohesion aspect with Agree scale 51.95% and register/style aspect with Strongly Agree scale 47.5 %.

Abstract

This research is about the analysis of derivational affixes in Writing Analytical Exposition Text. It intended to describe the process of derivational affixes and to find out the types, the structure, and the functions of each derivational affixes in writing analytical exposition text by the twelve grade students from YouTube. The qualitative method was used to investigate derivational affixes in writing analytical exposition text. The data were collected by documented study. They were collected from students’ results of making texts about analytical Exposition text, finding the text about analytical exposition, choosing the text that relevant with Corona virus disease, and the last searched the words that contain derivational affixes, the researcher identified. The results of this study showed that derivational affixes were found in writing analytical exposition text. There were three types of affix used. They were prefix, suffix, and circumfix. There was no infix used. Kinds of prefix found were pre-, dis-, re-, on-, under-, inter-, micro-, trans-, over-, al-, In-, out-. Kinds of suffix found were -ment, -ly, -ness, -ion, -y, -er, -ive, -ous, -ant, -ious, -ation, -en, -wards, -ition, -ed, -est, -ies, -ities -ily, -ence, -ing, -side. Kinds of circumfix found were Trans-ed, In-ation, inter-ion, dis-ed, re-ation, un-y, anti-ion, un–ed, in-ly, trans-ion, inter –ed, re-ing, trans-ing, in- ing, in-ent. The function of derivational affixes found in writing analytical exposition were verb formation, noun formation, adjective formation, and adverb formation, in which sometimes in the process of word formation, it did not always change the part of speech even though it had got the addition of affixes, such as noun into noun, verb into verb, and adjective into adjective. There were many derivational affixes. Moreover, suffix –ing to form a noun and –ly to form an adverb the most dominant affixes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the students' perceptions in using YouTube as online English learning media during the Covid-19 pandemic. at grade XI of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. The aspects of students’ perception cover attractiveness, effectiveness, relevancy, and motivation. These aspects are seen in students’ learning experiences in classes. The research subjects include students in class XI PMIA 6 and XI PMIA 7 at  SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar. The data are collected using qualitative research methods, namely the type of basic interpretive studies where the data are obtained using a questionnaire distributed to students in the form of a Google Form. The result of data analysis shows that most students gave a positive response to each statement in each aspect of the questionnaire given. Based on the research results obtained, this study can be concluded that the use of YouTube as an online English learning medium is attractive, effective, and relevant to the course content. It also motivates students in English online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic grade XI of SMA Negeri 4 Pematangsiantar.

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan Tes Tingkat Kognisi Membaca di Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan pada Ujian Nasional Tahun Pelajaran 2014/2015-2015/2016. Penelitian ini mencoba untuk menyelidiki apakah Menteri Pendidikan menerapkan enam tingkat kognisi dalam menyusun item tes membaca bahasa Inggris dan tingkat kognisi yang dominan diberikan dalam Ujian Nasional berdasarkan Taksonomi Bloom Revisi. Tingkat kognisi dalam Taksonomi Bloom Revisi terdiri dari mengingat, memahami, menerapkan, menganalisis, mengevaluasi, dan mencipta. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif dan sumber datanya dari naskah Ujian Nasional Sekolah Menengah Kejuruan dan dicari dari internet. Ada dua belas butir soal tes membaca pada tahun ajaran 2014/2015 dan sebelas butir soal tes membaca pada tahun ajaran 2015/2016. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada dua tingkat kognisi yang diberikan, yaitu tingkat mengingat terdiri dari sembilan item tes (75%) dan tingkat pemahaman terdiri dari tiga item tes (25%).

Abstract

Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui Pengaruh Strategi Looping Pada Siswa Menulis Teks Deskriptif Di Smp Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan menggunakan metode kuantitatif. Eksperimen semu adalah studi prospektif atau retrospektif di mana pasien memilih sendiri kelompok pengobatan yang berbeda untuk membandingkan efektivitas dan keamanannya. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok kelas VIII yang terletak di Jalan Radjamin Purba. Penelitian ini akan dilaksanakan pada tahun ajaran 2023/2024. Subyek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas VIII-1 dan VIII-2, dan objeknya adalah proses pembelajaran di kelas. Kelas eksperimen merupakan kelas yang mendapat perlakuan atau menggunakan strategi Looping ketika membaca teks narasi. Dua kelas yang digunakan untuk pengambilan sampel, yaitu: VIII-1 dan VIII-2. Kelas utama VIII-1 diambil dari 31 siswa sebagai kelas kontrol, dan VIII-2 diambil dari 31 siswa sebagai kelas eksperimen. Kemudian sampel penelitiannya adalah VIII-1 (sebagai kelas kontrol) dan VIII-2 (sebagai kelas eksperimen). Berdasarkan temuan penelitian ini, peneliti menyimpulkan bahwa strategi Looping efektif dalam meningkatkan kemampuan menulis teks deskriptif siswa di SMP Negeri 2 Tapian Dolok. Hal ini terlihat dari rata-rata skor kelompok eksperimen yaitu sebesar 49,61 pada saat pre-test dan meningkat menjadi 79,61 pada saat post-test. Sedangkan kelompok kontrol memperoleh skor rata-rata pada pre-test sebesar 48,09. Terdapat peningkatan skor pre-test ke post-test (69,74). Hasil uji t sebesar 2,235. Peneliti memperoleh nilai sebesar 1,671 mengacu pada t tabel dengan tingkat signifikansi 5% (0,05). Artinya hipotesis alternatif (Ha) diterima dan hipotesis nol (H0) ditolak.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui dan mendeskripsikan kesulitan siswa dalam menulis teks prosedur di kelas sepuluh SMK Swasta Persiapan Pematang Siantar. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori dari Heaton (1988) yang menyatakan bahwa pemberian skor rubrik untuk menulis teks prosedur terdiri dari struktur generik seperti tujuan, bahan, peralatan, langkah, dan fitur bahasa seperti kata kerja tindakan dan konjungsi temporal. Metode penelitian ini dirancang sebagai penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Peneliti memilih seluruh siswa kelas X sebagai subjek penelitian ini, yang berjumlah 118 siswa. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data adalah tes menulis. Prosedur yang diterapkan dalam menganalisis data adalah membaca, mengidentifikasi, menilai dan mendeskripsikan. Temuan menunjukkan bahwa mayoritas siswa kelas sepuluh menghadapi beberapa kesulitan dalam menulis teks prosedur. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat kesulitan paling dominan yang dihadapi siswa kelas X dalam menulis teks prosedur, yaitu pada bagian struktur generik yang berjumlah 52 siswa, dan pada bagian ciri kebahasaan yang berjumlah 66 siswa. Untuk beberapa kesulitannya antara lain: pada bagian struktur generik, termasuk tujuan, seperti siswa tidak dapat menuliskan tujuan dengan benar pada teks prosedur. Bahan dan perlengkapan seperti siswa tidak mencantumkan kuantitas masing-masing bahan dan perlengkapan dalam teks prosedur. Langkah-langkah seperti ini terdapat beberapa langkah yang dijelaskan siswa kurang detail dan kurang runtut. Sedangkan pada bagian fitur kebahasaan, termasuk kata kerja tindakan seperti siswa memasukkan kata kerja tindakan yang sama secara berulang-ulang dalam beberapa langkah. Konjungsi temporal seperti siswa tidak menggunakan berbagai konjungsi temporal secara konsisten ketika mengurutkan setiap langkah dalam teks prosedur.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the Learning Style of EFL Learners in Reading Comprehension at Smpn 2 Pematangsiantar. This research was conducted using qualitative methods. Qualitative methods are research that collect data in the form of words or images, not numbers. This research was carried out in September 2023 and was carried out at SMPN 2 Pematangsiantar which is located at Jl. Rajamin Purba, Sofa Hill, Siantar Sitalasari, Pematangsiantar City, North Sumatra. The primary data in this research are students. Secondary data in the form of research journals, relevant books. This data was obtained from interviews with research participants, namely class IX students of SMP Negeri 2 Pematangsiantar for the 2023/2024 academic year. Researchers conducted research in class IX-11. Data collection is an important step in research, because the main aim of research is to obtain data. The procedures applied to analyze data are data reduction and data display. Researchers found three dominant student learning styles, namely: visual learning style, auditory learning style, then kinesthetic learning style and one combination of learning styles, namely: kinesthetic-auditory/musical. There are three students who have a visual learning style. After that, there were three students who had an auditory learning style, then there were two students who had a kinesthetic learning style, and finally there was one student who had a kinesthetic-auditory (musical) learning style.
