Abstract

This study examines the impact of green talent management practices on HR performance quality in eco-friendly hotels in Central Java, Indonesia, using a phenomenological approach. Through in-depth interviews with 24 participants across six star-rated hotels, direct observation, document analysis, and focus group discussions, the research explores how green HRM practices influence employee performance and career development opportunities for young talent. The findings reveal that eco-friendly hotels have implemented various green talent management practices including environmentally-conscious recruitment, sustainability training, green performance management, and employee involvement in environmental initiatives. These practices positively impact multiple dimensions of employee performance: task performance through improved resource efficiency; contextual performance through enhanced teamwork; adaptive performance through increased innovation capability; and environmental performance through strengthened pro-environmental behaviors. The effectiveness of these practices is influenced by top management commitment, integration with business strategy, training quality, organizational culture, and resource availability. Young employees perceive involvement in green initiatives as valuable for developing leadership skills, expanding professional networks, and enhancing market competitiveness, although they identify the need for clearer sustainability-focused career paths. The study contributes to GHRM and talent management literature by explicating the mechanisms linking green talent management with performance outcomes in the hospitality industry context, while providing practical implications for hotel managers seeking to enhance both environmental sustainability and human resource performance. The research underscores the importance of a holistic approach to green talent management that aligns environmental priorities with employee development and organizational strategy.

Abstract

Abstract This research examines the effectiveness of adopting Sun Tzu's strategies to achieve domination in the tourism business, resulting in the establishment of sustainable tourism. "The Art of War" is a classic Chinese work of strategy authored by philosopher Sun Tzu. It offers combat methods and highlights the importance of power in navigating a complex commercial environment. Entrepreneurs in any industry clearly recognise the need of maintaining higher levels of customer satisfaction for the sustainability of their business. The significant decrease in sales of business products can be attributed to the unsatisfactory levels of client satisfaction. Simultaneously, the persistent loss in sales numbers implies a significant risk of the business facing bankruptcy. Business managers must anticipate and strategize for competition from competitors, taking into consideration several factors. This research uses a qualitative research methodology. The findings demonstrate that the fundamental principles of Sun Tzu's Art of War can be effectively employed to attract customers in the tourism industry. This can be achieved by demonstrating respect towards customers, efficiently organising information, maintaining a clear focus on objectives, securing advantageous positions, launching strategic attacks, implementing unexpected tactics, skilfully manoeuvring, concentrating resources, leveraging economic power, establishing a resilient command structure, exhibiting strong leadership, and employing straightforward problem-solving techniques. Abstract

This study aims to explore the key role of umbrella branding in strengthening the resilience of the creative economy in tourism villages, thereby increasing the competitiveness of tourism destinations. Through the inspirational story of Srumbung Gunung Creative Peace Tourism Village (DWKP), which has successfully qualified for the Indonesian Tourism Village Award (ADWI), this research reveals integrated marketing strategies that promote the preservation of local arts and traditions while developing creative innovations. This research employs a qualitative case study approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with village stakeholders, field observations, and document analysis. The research uses a participatory and contextual approach, involving local communities in the research process to obtain authentic understanding. The research identified a comprehensive umbrella branding model that integrates regional development, marketing strategies, and sustainability in tourism. The model encompasses four key components: local potential identification, creative economy initiative mapping, umbrella branding model development, and community validation through FGDs. This study contributes new knowledge by developing the first umbrella branding framework specifically designed for creative economy development in tourism village contexts, combining participatory approaches with comprehensive branding principles that have not been previously integrated in sustainable tourism literature.
