Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of change in Indonesian maritime culture through an analysis of the role of Dutch colonization in the transformation of national identity. Drawing on qualitative research methods using secondary data, the study examines three key areas: factors contributing to Dutch colonization, the impact of Dutch colonial policies on traditional maritime practices and social structures, and the contribution of Dutch colonization to Indonesian national identity formation and its contemporary legacy. The research's findings show that trade interests, military conquests, and cultural exchanges were the driving forces behind Dutch colonization, which had a significant impact on Indonesian maritime culture. Dutch colonial policies such as the cultivation system and cultural assimilation efforts disrupted traditional maritime practices and social structures, leading to socio-economic disparities and cultural hybridization. However, Dutch colonization also fostered a sense of resistance and solidarity among Indonesians, contributing to the formation of a unified national identity. In conclusion, the study underscores the multifaceted nature of Dutch influence on Indonesian maritime culture and national identity, highlighting the enduring legacy of colonialism in contemporary Indonesian society.

Abstract

Abstract. In democratic states, civil-military relations and public opinion significantly influence defense policy decisions. This research explores the mechanisms through which civilian leaders and military officials interact to formulate defense policies, and how public sentiment, shaped by traditional and social media, impacts these decisions. Using qualitative research methods, specifically secondary data analysis of case studies and scholarly literature, this study investigates three key areas: the impact of civil-military relations on defense policy, the role of public opinion and media influence, and the interaction between civil-military relations and public opinion. Findings indicate that military leaders' public statements and media coverage significantly shape public opinion, which pressures civilian leaders to adapt defense policies. The U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan is a prime example where declining public support, influenced by media portrayals and military assessments, led to a strategic policy shift. This study concludes that understanding the interplay between civil-military relations and public opinion is crucial for effective and democratic defense policy-making. Keywords: civil-military relations, defense policy, democratic states, media influence, public opinion

Abstract

Logistics management plays a pivotal role in ensuring the success of military operations within the realm of defense. With the primary goals of enhancing timeliness, transparency, and the overall security of defense asset management, blockchain technology has emerged as an intriguing solution. This educational article endeavors to delve into the concept and utilization of blockchain technology in the logistics management of defense, while also shedding light on the advantages and constraints associated with its implementation. This study adopts a literature review methodology to unravel the intricacies of applying blockchain technology in defense logistics. The findings reveal a multitude of challenges when implementing blockchain technology, including issues related to human resources, technological readiness, regulatory ambiguities, the customization of blockchain systems for strategic defense logistics applications, and the preservation of data integrity. The adoption and implementation of blockchain technology within the field of defense logistics is not a direct, one-size-fits-all process. Instead, tailored adaptations are made to address the unique demands of defense logistics, which often necessitate restricted access for specific stakeholders due to the sensitive nature of the sector. In conclusion, this research underscores the significant potential of blockchain technology in the realm of defense logistics. However, it emphasizes the necessity for further in-depth research and meticulous adaptation to ensure a seamless integration of this technology into the complex landscape of defense logistics.
