Abstract

Background: Caries is an oral disease that often affects children around the world. The oral disease is related to several etiological factors with indicators of nutritional status, such as obesity and malnutrition. Studies linking overweight/obesity and caries experience in children have proved contradictory so far, the results including positive association, no association and inverse association. Therefore, this study aims to estimate the relationship between obesity and caries in children based on the results of several previous studies.Subjects and Method: This was a systematic study and meta-analysis. The search for articles was carried out by considering the eligibility criteria determined using the PICO model. The study population was children aged 6-15 years old with an intervention in the form of obesity, normoweight comparison and caries outcome. This article was collected for 3 weeks. The keywords to search for articles were as follows: “obesity” OR “overweight” AND “dental caries” AND “children”. The articles included in this study are full text articles with a cross sectional research design from 2012 to 2022. Articles were collected using the PRISMA flow chart. Articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 application. Results: A total of 9 articles contained in this study, including 3 articles from Brazil which is the continent of South America, 2 articles from Mexico which is the continent of North America, 1 article from Nigeria which is the African continent, 2 articles from China and 1 article from Arabia which is the continent of Asia. The results showed that obesity can reduce the incidence of dental caries in children by 0.82 times higher compared to children with normal weight (aOR = 0.82; 95% CI = 0.45 to 1.52; p = 0.540)Conclusion: Meta-analyses show that overweight and obese children have a lower risk of developing early childhood caries. Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis or TB is a disease caused by the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex. There are several comorbidities that experience severity and death when infected with tuberculosis or TB, namely hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, cerebrovascular disease, and other diseases. This study aims to estimate the magnitude of the risk of death in Tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment with comorbid Diabetes Mellitus, with a meta-analysis of primary studies conducted by previous authors.Subjects and Method: This was a systematic review and meta-analysis with the following PICO, population: Tuberculosis patients. Intervention: comorbidities of chronic diabetes mellitus. Comparison: without comorbid diabetes mellitus. Outcome: death. The articles used in this study were obtained from three databases, namely Google Scholar, Pubmed, and Science Direct. Keywords to search for articles “Tuberclosis” OR TBC AND “Diabetes Mellitus” OR DM AND Mortality OR Death The included full-text articles are in English with a cohort study design from 2007 to 2021 and report the adjusted Odds Ratio (aOR) in a multivariate analysis. Article selection is done by using PRISMA flow diagram. Articles were analyzed using the Review Manager 5.3 application. Results: A total of 12 cohort studies involving tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment from America, Europe, Africa and Asia were selected for a systematic review and meta-analysis. The data collected showed tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment with comorbid Diabetes Mellitus had a 1.68 times risk of death compared to COVID-19 patients without comorbid chronic kidney disease (aOR = 1.68; 95% CI = 1.42 to 1.99; p<0.001).Conclusion: Diabetes mellitus comorbidity increases the risk of death in tuberculosis patients undergoing treatment. Abstract

Poorly controlled diabetes mellitus is a major cause of blindness, heart attack, amputation, stroke, kidney failure, and impotence. Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease and stroke. The prevalence of diabetes and hypertension is increasing globally. There is strong evidence from clinical trials that lifestyle modification and education can minimize the risk of diabetes and high blood pressure, as well as preventive measures that can reduce morbidity and mortality. Based on a study carried out by the team before the activity was held, information was obtained that the majority of pre-elderly and elderly residents had never had a health check-up. The aim to be achieved in this activity is to provide health education through checking blood pressure and blood sugar as well as providing counseling to pre-elderly and elderly groups. This program was held on November 11, 2023 at the Pandanrejo Village Hall, Wagir District, Malang Regency with a total of 50 participants. The methods used to solve partner problems are health checks and counseling. After carrying out the activities, pre-elderly and elderly residents can find out their blood pressure and blood sugar levels and understand well about healthcare efforts.

Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a significant developmental stage marked by notable physical, psychological, and social changes. Adolescent reproductive health surveys show that a number of teenagers report engaging in premarital sexual intercourse without fully understanding its social and health consequences. Given this phenomenon, it is crucial to understand the factors that can protect them from risky sexual behaviors, particularly starting from the family. This study aimed to estimate the impact of family communication on risky sexual behavior in adolescents. Subjects and Method: This research is a meta-analysis and systematic review using the PRISMA diagram with PICO frame work (P= adolescent; I = parental communication; C= no parental communication; O= risky sexual behavior). Primary studies were searched through several indexing databases, including PubMed, Google Scholar, and ScienceDirect. Keywords used to facilitate the search for articles include: “parental participation,” or “parental communication,” or “family interaction,” or “sexual risk” or “sexual risk behavior” AND “adults” or “adolescents.” The inclusion criteria for this study are articles published using a cross-sectional study design up to 2024. The statistical analysis used in this study was conducted using the RevMan 5.4 meta-analysis program with both fixed effect and random effect approaches to present the data in the form of forest plots and funnel plots. Results: A total 9 Articles were included in the meta-analysis. The results of the study show that adolescents with low family participation in sexual education, or in the absence of parental communication, are 1.46 times more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior compared to adolescents who receive sexual education or have parental communication, and this result is statistically significant (aOR= 1.46; CI 95%= 1.43 to 1.49; p<0.001). Conclusion: adolescents with low family participation in sexual education, or in the absence of parental communication are more likely to engage in risky sexual behavior compared to adolescents who receive sexual education or have parental communication.
