Abstract

The application of teacher-centered learning in one of the high schools in Mataram City resulted in low mathematical understanding skills in students. This is because teachers only use textbooks as learning tools and rarely use student worksheets. The purpose of this study was to develop valid and effective guided inquiry-based student worksheets. The type of research used is research and development using the 4D model which is carried out to the development stage. Data collection techniques used interview guidelines, learner response questionnaires, and mathematical understanding ability tests. The data analysis technique consisted of validity analysis and effectiveness analysis. The results of data analysis showed that the learner worksheet product developed obtained a score of 4.30 by 1 device expert validator with very valid criteria, then received a score of 4.71 by 1 material expert validator with very valid criteria and obtained a score of 4.44 by 1 learning expert validator with very valid criteria. Furthermore, the guided inquiry-based student worksheet is an effective learning tool because the percentage of classical completeness reached 77.78% and the percentage of student response scores was 83% with very good criteria. So, it can be concluded that the development of guided inquiry-based student worksheets is valid and effective for optimizing students' mathematical understanding skills.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an ethnomathematics-based visual novel game, named "EtnoMath," to enhance students' mathematical reasoning abilities in fraction material. The game was developed in response to students' difficulties in understanding mathematical reasoning concepts, which have led to low learning outcomes. This research employed a Research & Development (R&D) approach using the Alessi & Trollip model, which consists of three stages: planning, design, and development. Expert validation (content and media), practicality analysis, and product effectiveness analysis were conducted as part of the evaluation process. Data collection techniques included validation questionnaires, teacher and student practicality questionnaires, and mathematical reasoning ability tests. The results indicated that "EtnoMath" meets the criteria for being valid, practical, and effective, with a media validity score of 88% (very valid) and a content validity score of 90% (very valid). The practicality level was rated at 84% by teachers and 84% by students (both very practical). Effectiveness analysis, both from individual and classical mastery tests, showed that student mastery exceeded 80% in field trials. Effectiveness testing using a one-sample t-test showed a significant improvement in post-test scores (M = 87.25, p < 0.001) compared to the minimum mastery criterion (KKTP = 80), while a binomial test confirmed that all students exceeded this benchmark (p = 0.000).These findings suggest that "EtnoMath" is effective in enhancing students' mathematical reasoning skills and aligns with modern pedagogical standards. However, the study has limitations, such as a lack of long-term evaluation and adaptation to various user needs. The implications of these findings highlight the need for further development to improve the game's flexibility and expand its application in broader educational contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to develop a local culture-based problem-posing test on linear programming material for eleventh-grade high school students and determine the content validity of the developed test based on expert judgment. The study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the Four-D (4D) model. The developed test was designed to measure students’ abilities in three types of problem-posing activities: pre-solution posing, within-solution posing, and post-solution posing, by integrating local cultural contexts such as economic and agricultural activities around the Sembalun area of Mount Rinjani. The validation was conducted by two mathematics education experts and one local culture expert. The results showed that the developed test achieved a high level of content validity with an average score of 3.75, categorized as very valid. Therefore, the local culture-based problem-posing test developed in this study is considered feasible and valid to be used in assessing students’ abilities to formulate, develop, and solve contextual mathematical problems.

Abstract

Critical thinking is one of the skills needed by vocational high school students in the world of work and has a positive impact on students' fieldwork practices. Therefore the aim of this research is to produce a mathematics module focused on critical thinking skills using a project-based learning model. Thiagarajan's 4D development model, namely define, design, develop, and dissemination, is used in this research and development model. Validation tests, questionnaires, observations, interviews, and critical thinking tests were used to collect data. Data analysis was carried out quantitatively and qualitatively. Quantitative analysis uses descriptive statistical tests and T-tests while qualitative analysis comes from suggestions and input from media experts, materials, practitioners, teachers, and students. The results showed that: (1) the mathematics module for grade 11th vocational high school met valid criteria based on the assessment of material experts, media experts, practitioners, teachers, and students; and (2) with a sig score of 0.000 from the T-test, students who took the module these have better critical thinking skills than those who don't. So that this module can be classified as effective for use in learning. This indicates that this module meets the requirements for use in learning.

Abstract

Abstract

This research aims to produce teaching materials based on 21st century learning for prospective teacher students that are valid and effective. The method of this research was research and development (R&D) using the Thiagarajan 4D model. This model consists of several stages, namely definition, design, development, and dissemination. The test subjects of this research were 27 third-semester mathematics education students at the University of Mataram. Data was collected using a validation questionnaire for teaching materials for material experts, media, practitioners and lecturer and student response questionnaires. Meanwhile, effectiveness data was obtained from student scores on ability tests at the end of using teaching materials. The data was analyzed descriptively to categorize the classical completeness from the scores. The results of the research showed that the teaching materials for teaching critical and creative thinking skills met the criteria valid according to the assessment of material experts, media experts, practitioner experts, lecturers, and students, and their effectiveness has been tested so that it can be concluded that this module meets the requirements for use in learning to build creative thinking and critical thinking skills. These teaching materials can be references for teachers to study how to stimulate student’s critical and creative thinking.Â
