Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of fiscal capacity and economic growth on the Human Development Index (HDI) in Southeast Sulawesi Province during the 2020-2022 period. A quantitative approach was used, using secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency and other relevant sources. The analysis method employed is multiple linear regression to assess the relationship between fiscal capacity, economic growth, and HDI. The analysis results indicate that fiscal capacity does not have a significant partial effect on HDI, with a t-value significance of 0.483 (> 0.05). This suggests that while fiscal capacity exists, the budget allocation has not been effectively channeled toward sectors that directly enhance quality of life, such as education, healthcare, and welfare. On the other hand, economic growth shows a significant positive effect on HDI, with a t-value significance of 0.000 (< 0.05). Economic growth improves the population's access to education, healthcare, and welfare. When considered, fiscal capacity and economic growth have a significant combined effect on HDI, with an F-value significance of 0.000 (< 0.05). However, more than fiscal capacity is needed, likely due to inefficiencies in budget allocation.

Abstract

Despite the growing recognition of multicultural values in education, Arabic reading materials that explicitly incorporate multicultural themes remain limited, especially within Islamic higher education. This study aims to fill this gap by: (1) designing a multicultural-based reading syllabus, (2) developing appropriate reading materials, (3) assessing the feasibility of both, and (4) evaluating their effectiveness in improving students’ reading skills. Employing a mixed-methods approach with field research, the development follows Borg and Gall’s ten-step model. Data were collected through observation, interviews, documentation, questionnaires, and reading tests, involving second-semester students from classes A7 and A8 of the Islamic Education Program at FTIK, IAIN Jember. Results show that the syllabus aligns with subject-centered design and KKNI standards, while the developed materials reflect multicultural values such as tolerance, justice, equality, and humanity. Statistical analysis confirms a significant improvement in students’ reading abilities after using the materials. The study concludes that integrating multicultural themes into Arabic reading instruction not only enhances language proficiency but also cultivates inclusive and culturally responsive learning. These findings suggest the potential for broader implementation of multicultural approaches in Arabic language curricula across Islamic higher education institutions.

Abstract

Background: The phenomenon of code mixing at Student Entrepreneur Islamic Boarding School of Nurul Islam 2 (PPME Nuris 2), especially in the AIQ program in which students are required to speak Arabic although they have not mastered all the vocabularies yet, so that the mixing code between Arabic and regional languages, including Javanese or Madurese, influences the dialect of every University student of this program. Aims: This research is expected to answer the questions about what influences the appearance of code mixing and dialectology, the process of forming code mixing and dialectology, and the influence of dialectology and code mixing on students. Methods: This research used a qualitative approach with a case study as its research type. The data collection techniques used were observation, interviews, and triangulation around the Student Entrepreneur Islamic Boarding School of Nuris 2 using participatory observation, guided interviews, data triangulation, and sources. Results: This study revealed that the emergence of code-mixing and dialectology among students is influenced by internal and external factors, including their environment and personal experiences. This process is shaped by the diverse regional backgrounds of the students, their social interactions, and academic demands. Dialectology and code-mixing contribute positively to students' Arabic-speaking proficiency, as code-mixing is part of language acquisition, helping students develop confidence in speaking a second language fluently and accurately. However, it also challenges Arabic grammar, as excessive code-mixing can disrupt linguistic structures, making the language appear less formal and potentially hindering proper learning. Implications: This study makes significant contributions to socio-linguistic and ecolinguistic studies, especially regarding how social interactions and environmental factors influence the students’ use of Arabic. It deepens understanding of social dynamics that influence language, such as code-mixing usage in multilingual conversation.

Abstract

This study addresses the empirical gap in research on the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in learning Arabic for students with disabilities within Distance Learning contexts. To bridge this literature gap, the study examines the effectiveness of AI in enhancing Arabic language comprehension. Using a qualitative approach involving observation, interviews, and assessments, it evaluates improvements in vocabulary mastery, sentence structure understanding, and learner engagement. The implementation of AI features such as text-to-speech technology, interactive chatbots, and automated feedback demonstrated significant results in vocabulary retention and learning enthusiasm. However, technical challenges were identified, including unstable internet connectivity and interface accessibility issues for students with physical disabilities. The findings confirm the strategic potential of AI as an inclusive learning tool while recommending the development of more accessible platforms. Further research is needed to refine the effectiveness and accessibility of AI tools in Distance Learning for learners with disabilities.

Abstract

The Red-and-White Village Cooperatives has strategic potential as a forum for the people's economy that plays a role in improving the welfare of rural communities, creating jobs, expanding economic participation, accelerating the strengthening of MSMEs, and reducing inflation and extreme poverty. However, its establishment and sustainability face a number of challenges, particularly related to business aspects, the quality of management resources, institutional aspects, and partnership networks. This activity aims to improve the business and institutional capacity of its managers so that cooperatives can operate as transparent, accountable, sustainable economic entities based on local potential. The expected benefits include increased understanding and skills in cooperative governance, particularly in business and institutional management, as well as support for local governments in strengthening the role of cooperatives as pillars of family-based and mutual assistance economic empowerment. The results show that Kolono Subdistrict has 21 Red-and-White Village Cooperatives, all of which were established through a new cooperative establishment model in accordance with the Minister of Cooperatives Implementation Guidelines Number 1 of 2025. The existence of these cooperatives is supported by government support, institutional structures, local resource potential, and market opportunities. However, several obstacles remain, such as low management and human resource capacity, limited capital, minimal member participation, and market uncertainty. Business and institutional activation needs to be directed towards strengthening governance, increasing human resource capacity, developing relevant business models, utilizing technology, strengthening capital, multi-stakeholder collaboration, and continuous monitoring and evaluation.
