Abstract

Food security for farming households is an important issue in agrarian areas that still face limited access and low-quality food consumption. This research aims to analyze the consumption patterns and food security levels of farmer households in Nyawangan Village, Kras District, Kediri Regency. This research uses a quantitative descriptive method thru surveys of 56 farmer households selected by simple random sampling. Primary data were collected thru structured interviews using a 24-hour food recall and a household expenditure questionnaire. Analysis using the Energy Sufficiency Level (ESL) indicator, Expected Food Pattern (EFP), Food Expenditure Proportion (FEP), and cross-classification. The results show an average ESL of 83.8% (insufficient category) and an EFP score of 69.95, indicating a lack of diversity in consumption, still dominated by cereals. The average FEP of 55.96% indicates relatively high food expenditure. As many as 48.21% of households were classified as food secure, while 30.36% were in a state of food insecurity and vulnerability. It is concluded that food security is not yet fully stable due to low consumption diversity and economic pressure. Therefore, food diversification based on local potential, nutrition education, and strengthening the economic resilience of farmers' households is highly necessary.

Abstract

Abstract

Background: Cocoa is a strategic Indonesian plantation commodity that faces challenges in productivity, quality, and global competitiveness, despite being the world's third-largest producer.Purpose: This study aims to analyze the dynamics of Indonesia's cocoa competitiveness and the determinants of cocoa exports in the global market.Design/methodology/approach: This study used secondary data from the BPS, UN Comtrade, FAO, World Bank, and Bank Indonesia. The analysis includes the Trade Specialization Index (ISP), Export Product Dynamics (EPD) to measure the market position, and the Error Correction Model (ECM) to analyze the determinants of exports in the short and long term.Findings/Results: ISP shows Indonesia as a net exporter with an average value of 0.614 and relatively good strength. The EPD classifies the top destination countries of Malaysia, China, the Philippines and India as Rising Stars, indicating strong growth potential. The ECM results show that production, productivity, price, exchange rate, destination countries’ GDP, RCA, and ECI have a significant effect on exports in the long run, emphasizing the role of structural factors.  Meanwhile, in the short term, the effect is inconsistent because of market volatility and structural limitations. Conclusion: The findings imply that improving productivity, enhancing quality standards, and strengthening the downstream cocoa industry are crucial for increasing Indonesia’s export competitiveness. These efforts can enhance the country’s comparative advantage and economic complexity, thereby supporting sustainable export growth in the global market.Originality/value (state of the art): The integration of ISP and EPD analyses with export determinants using ECM provides a comprehensive overview and practical policy recommendations for the sustainability of cocoa exports. Abstract

Research Aims: This study aims to examine the impact of employee well-being (encompassing economic well-being and work facilities) on employee retention in the modern fresh retail sector, focusing on Indomaret Fresh outlets in the Surabaya area. It addresses the challenge of high employee turnover rates within dynamic fresh retail operations that threaten operational efficiency, service quality, and the handling of perishable agribusiness products. Design/methodology/approach: Grounded in Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs Theory and Social Exchange Theory, this study employs a quantitative approach using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (SEM-PLS 4.0). A census sampling technique was used, involving 63 active operational employees working shifts across six Indomaret Fresh outlets in Surabaya. Research Findings: Evaluation of the measurement model confirmed high construct reliability (Cronbach’s Alpha = 0.939; Composite Reliability = 0.947) and satisfactory convergent validity (AVE = 0.619 for well-being and 0.610 for retention). However, structural model evaluation demonstrated that employee well-being has a positive but statistically insignificant effect on employee retention (t = 1.130; p = 0.259). This indicates that meeting standard economic needs and providing baseline work facilities alone are insufficient to serve as primary drivers for reducing turnover intentions in shift-based retail environments. Theoretical Contribution/Originality: This study provides empirical insights into the limitations of traditional economic well-being models when applied to the modern fresh retail sector. By applying Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs and Social Exchange Theory to shift-based operational workers, it highlights that basic hygiene factors (facilities and pay) do not automatically guarantee retention, suggesting that future research and retail management must explore higher-level non-economic needs such as shift-stress management and career progression. Abstract

Demand for high-quality fruit in modern retail is rising, yet prices at a premium outlet such as Hokky Graha Family remain higher than those at comparable supermarkets. This study describes the socioeconomic characteristics of consumers and estimates their maximum average willingness to pay (WTP) for apples, grapes, and oranges. Primary data were collected from 50 consumers in December 2024 using accidental sampling. Consumer characteristics were analyzed descriptively, while WTP was estimated using the contingent valuation method with a bidding-game technique. The results show that 84% of respondents were willing to pay above the prevailing market price. Most consumers were women (80%), aged 25–64 years (62%), married (64%), high-school graduates (68%), private-sector employees (44%), and earned IDR 4–10 million per month (62%). Among respondents willing to pay a premium, average WTP was IDR 117,738.09/kg for apples (+14.8%), IDR 144,261.90/kg for grapes (+11.3%), and IDR 98,023.81/kg for oranges (+17.3%). Willingness to pay clustered at a 10% premium. The findings indicate limited room for price adjustment; increases above 20% sharply reduce the number of willing buyers.
