Abstract

Food security for farming households is an important issue in agrarian areas that still face limited access and low-quality food consumption. This research aims to analyze the consumption patterns and food security levels of farmer households in Nyawangan Village, Kras District, Kediri Regency. This research uses a quantitative descriptive method thru surveys of 56 farmer households selected by simple random sampling. Primary data were collected thru structured interviews using a 24-hour food recall and a household expenditure questionnaire. Analysis using the Energy Sufficiency Level (ESL) indicator, Expected Food Pattern (EFP), Food Expenditure Proportion (FEP), and cross-classification. The results show an average ESL of 83.8% (insufficient category) and an EFP score of 69.95, indicating a lack of diversity in consumption, still dominated by cereals. The average FEP of 55.96% indicates relatively high food expenditure. As many as 48.21% of households were classified as food secure, while 30.36% were in a state of food insecurity and vulnerability. It is concluded that food security is not yet fully stable due to low consumption diversity and economic pressure. Therefore, food diversification based on local potential, nutrition education, and strengthening the economic resilience of farmers' households is highly necessary.

Abstract

Rice is a staple food for Indonesia and should be available at an affordable price. This study aims to analyze the factors causing fluctuations in rice prices, and analyze the effect of changing prices on the livelihoods of rice farmers. The farmers’ welfare was calculated using Farmer Exchange Rate (FER). The analysis was conducted using a simultaneous equation model, utilizing time series data from 2009 to 2023. This study employed Two-Stage Least Squares (2SLS) and Multiple Linear Regression techniques. The findings reveal that rice production is significantly influenced by the previous year’s rice prices and the size of the harvested area. Meanwhile, the factors affecting consumption are the rice price variable and income levels, as well as the factors influencing rice prices, which include the price of unmilled dry grain, rice production, and the highest retail price. Meanwhile, regarding the welfare of rice farmers measured by the FER, it is known that the FER in East Java has fluctuated from 2009 to 2023. The highest contributor to the rice FER occurred in 2023, reaching 115.64%, with an average FER for East Java from 2009 to 2023 of 102.86%. This indicates that the Rice FER is in a surplus state, suggesting that rice farmers are prosperous.

Abstract

Indonesia is one of the world’s leading cocoa producers, yet its contribution to global value-added cocoa exports remains relatively low. This structural gap highlights the need to evaluate not only production capacity but also the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa in international markets. This study aims to evaluate the competitiveness of Indonesian cocoa exports in four main destination countries: India, China, Malaysia, and the Philippines. Data sources were obtained from UM Comtrade, ITC Trademap, International Cocoa Organization (ICCO), and BPS. The analysis was conducted by combining methods of the Revealed Comparative Advantage, Export Competitiveness Index, and the Porter's Diamond Model. The results show that Indonesia still has a comparative and competitive advantage in several markets, especially India. The average RCA value was 10.41 in Malaysia, 9.42 (China), 5.40 (India), and 3.97 (the Philippines). Meanwhile, the ECI value is greater than one, namely 1.21 (India), 1.09 (China), 1.08 (Malaysia), and 1.05 (the Philippines). These advantages, however, are volatile and highly dependent on natural resource factors. Weak domestic demand, inconsistent quality standards, limited downstream industry capacity, and fragmented policy coordination remain key structural challenges. This research emphasizes that strengthening competitiveness not only requires the maintenance of comparative advantage, but also its transformation into a sustainable competitive advantage through institutional reform, cross-sector policy integration, and value-added product innovation.

Abstract

Food safety is an essential aspect of sanitation science. Food safety is an essential characteristic of life, both for food producers and consumers. Therefore, food processing enterprises must prioritize hygiene standards for the common good and maintain consumer confidence by improving food security assurances. The consumption of tempe by Indonesian people is relatively high because there is an advantage that tempe has in terms of nutritional value over other foods. The regulations of the Minister of Industry were issued by the Drug and Food Supervisory Authority (BPOM) 14 years ago, and the artisans should have already carried out the production process following the requirements of the regulations. The study aims to evaluate compliance with good manufacturing practices in Tempe production and analyze the correlation between compliance with good manufacturing practices and profits. The study was conducted in May 2024 in the village of Sepande. The number of respondents in this study is 50 tempe artisans, with the probability sampling techniques taking into account that Sepande Village is the area that has the most tempe industry homes and the highest tempe producer in the Candi district. The analysis method used in the first instance is the GMP assessment checklist form, then analyzed using the GAP Analysis method to analyze the gaps that occur, and in the second instance to analyze the costs and profits, then provide a list of questions with the Likert scale method, then correlated using the help of SPSS software with the Spearman Rank Test. The results show that based on the assessment of the aspects of Good Processed Food Production in Tempe products in the village of Sepande, the level of compliance has been applied following the regulations of the ministry as well as the benefits that influence the way good processed food is produced.
