Abstract

Background: Agricultural development is crucial for rural economic growth and food security. This study analyzes agricultural development in Ngringo Village, Indonesia, examining potentials, challenges, structural and institutional transformations, technology transfer, and appropriate development models. Previous research has focused on broader regional agricultural trends, while this study provides an in-depth analysis of a specific village undergoing rapid change. Method: The study employed purposive sampling to select Ngringo Village. Data collection involved observations, structured interviews with key informants, and document analysis. Both primary data from village officials and secondary data from government sources were utilized. Findings: Ngringo Village exhibits both physical potential (strategic location, affordable land) and non-physical potential (socio-cultural life, efficient administration). Challenges include limited farmer knowledge of marketing and post-harvest processing. Structural transformation is evident in the shift from agriculture to industrial and service sectors due to urbanization pressures. Institutional transformation has led to the establishment of farmer groups and associations. Technology transfer is occurring, with the adoption of mechanized farming equipment, though digital technologies are not yet fully embraced. Conclusion: The agricultural development model in Ngringo Village aligns with the location model, influenced by its proximity to urban areas. Ngringo Village is undergoing significant agricultural transformations driven by urbanization and industrialization. While facing challenges in land conversion and marketing, the village demonstrates resilience through institutional adaptations and selective technology adoption. Novelty/Originality of this article: This study proposes an integrated digital platform for sustainable agricultural development. The platform connects farmers to markets, provides online training, and facilitates stakeholder collaboration, adaptable to different peri-urban contexts across the country.

Abstract

Background: Development involves conscious efforts and activities aimed at achieving positive change within a community. It requires the participation of all societal layers, with the government acting as a facilitator and guide. The government and the community must work harmoniously to achieve the desired goals. National agricultural development often focuses on villages close to municipalities, benefiting from hierarchical governance and advanced rural agricultural practices. This development can progress with political support, as outlined in Law Number 6 of 2014 on Villages, which aims to improve welfare, enhance human resources, and reduce rural poverty through sustainable management of local resources and the environment. This study aims to understand the potential and issues facing Ngringo Village, analyze the structural transformations, examine the institutional changes, assess the technology transfer, and identify a suitable agricultural development model. Methods: The research employs qualitative methods, including field observations, interviews with key informants, and analysis of secondary data from relevant literature and official documents. Findings: The results indicate that Ngringo Village has significant potential due to its strategic location and developed infrastructure. However, challenges such as reduced agricultural land and a shift in economic activities from agriculture to industrial sectors are evident. Institutional support through local farmer groups and technology adoption has been crucial in addressing some of these challenges. Conclusion: In conclusion, while Ngringo Village faces challenges due to rapid structural changes and urbanization, the village has managed to sustain its agricultural practices through effective institutional support and technology transfer. The study suggests that a location-based development model, considering both agricultural and non-agricultural factors, is essential for the sustainable development of Ngringo Village. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study produces a location-based agricultural development model that considers both agricultural and non-agricultural factors, providing practical guidance for local governments in planning sustainable development in villages facing rapid urbanization, such as Ngringo Village.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Different regions across Indonesia play crucial roles in advancing the national economy. The regional governments, with their in-depth understanding of local conditions, are best positioned to create policies that align with community needs and foster regional economic development. This research aims to analyze the impact of working capital distribution, investment credit, labor force size, and agricultural land area on economic growth within the agricultural sector in Karanganyar Regency. This study employs an empirical method combined with quantitative research techniques. To meet the data requirements, the researcher used secondary data from Karanganyar Regency for the years 2011–2021. Multiple linear regression analysis techniques were utilized for data analysis. The findings indicate that the distribution of working capital credit and the amount of arable land significantly impact the economic growth of Karanganyar Regency's agricultural sector. In contrast, the distribution of investment credit and the number of productive workers do not have a significant impact. Abstract

Soybean is one of the leading food crops in Indonesia, but its dependence on imports is very high. The productivity of soybean yields in Indonesia is also far below that of other soybean-producing countries. This study aims to analyze the competitiveness of soybean farming in Central Java Province. Policy Analysis Matrix (PAM) is used to analyze the soybean competitiveness. The results showed that the from PAM model shows that the PCR value is 0.37, which means that soybean farming is competitive in the current market. Furthermore, the DRC value is 0.30, indicating that soybean commodities have a comparative advantage or are competitive in the market if they are perfectly competitive and there are no distortions. Soybeans have an NPCO value of 0.960, farmers are paid 96% of what they should be paid. It appears that soybean farmers are relatively disadvantaged based on the NPCO value. Furthermore, the NPCI value is 0.98. The research results indicate that the NPCI has a value less than one. This implies the existence of consumer input protection policies in the form of subsidies. Thus, to meet domestic demand for soybeans, producing for domestic is better than importing from other countries. The and competitiveness analysis results show that soybean farming is profitable and competitive. The existence of competitive and comparative advantages indicates that soybean farming is still feasible to be cultivated domestically, so efforts are needed to increase efficiency to reduce dependence on imports.

Abstract

This research examines the role of Toko Tani Indonesia (TTI) in the rice supply chain and price determination in Sragen Regency, Central Java, Indonesia. Using a descriptive analysis approach, the study focused on Sragen, a major rice production center. The samples for this investigation were selected purposively from datasets provided by eleven Community Food Business Institutions and Indonesian Farmer’s Stores that have been recorded in the Office of Agriculture and Food Security of Sragen Regency. The Food Supply Chain Networking (FSCN) model and rice price formation were analyzed qualitatively, while supply chain performance and value-added (VA) were assessed quantitatively. Results revealed a significant reduction in the rice supply chain stages from 6–7 to just 3, improving efficiency. Margins for partner farmers and TTI were calculated at IDR 1,600 per kilogram (51.13% of total margin share) and IDR 300 per kilogram, respectively. Inventory turnover was 12 times annually, with inventory days of supply for farmer groups at 30 days and a cash-to-cash cycle of 37 days. VA analysis showed farmers contributed 72% of total value (IDR 376,216,168), LUPM 26% (IDR 136,678,955), and TTI 2% (IDR 8,090,000). TTI supports farmers by purchasing grains at fair prices, ensuring effective marketing, maintaining rice availability, and stabilizing prices, thus playing a critical role in the community's food security efforts.

Abstract

Establishing a waste bank in Surakarta City is not only intended to manage household waste The waste bank can also serve to improve the community's economy. Since 2014, the Surakarta City Environmental Services (DLH) has been promoting the formation of waste banks. There were 123 waste banks recorded in Surakarta City until 2020; in 2021, only 70 remained. Furthermore, not all waste banks can run well. Therefore, this study examines how to develop waste bank management to improve household income in Surakarta City. This study used a descriptive method and Miles and Huberman analysis using 120 waste bank customers and 13 managers as respondents. The result showed that the waste bank contribution to the household income was IDR 26,461/month, which means that some aspects need improvements, such as human capacity, infrastructure and facilities, time management, economic incentives, and the program itself. This study provides recommendations on how to maintain and increase waste bank activities to enhance household welfare and environmental quality.
