Abstract

Abstract

Background: Manggung Village has great potential in the agricultural sector, which has long been the mainstay of the village economy. However, the village also faces significant challenges, including high fertiliser prices and irrigation problems that hamper agricultural productivity. This research aims to explore the potential, challenges and impacts of structural, institutional and technological transformation in Manggung Village, and determine the most appropriate agricultural development model. Methods: This research used a qualitative method with data collection techniques in the form of interviews, observation, and note-taking. Primary data was collected through interviews with farmers and community leaders, while secondary data was obtained from literature and other sources of information. Data was analysed to identify the main problems and changes in the village. Findings: The main findings of this research show that Manggung Village is undergoing significant changes in economic and institutional structures, including the application of new technologies such as tractors and rice dryers. While these technologies help to increase efficiency, this transformation has also led to a shift in labour from the agricultural sector to the industrial sector, resulting in a reduction of labour in agriculture. Conclusion: The conclusion of this research shows that a conservation-based agricultural development model is the most suitable for Manggung Village, given the potential for fertile agricultural land and the linkages between the agricultural and livestock sectors. This model is expected to support sustainable development by maintaining environmental quality while improving the economic welfare of the village community.  Novelty/Originality of this study: This research makes a novel contribution by highlighting how structural and technological transformations can affect the dynamics of agricultural villages such as Manggung Village. By proposing a conservation-based development model, this research offers a suitable approach to address local challenges while maximising the potential of existing natural resources.

Abstract

Background: Researchers agree on the necessity of a robust framework to adapt to and mitigate climate change, encompassing environmental education, financial support, green tourism, eco-tourism, and conservation projects. This paper investigates the vulnerability of tourism to climate change, tourism under various climate scenarios, and adaptation strategies within this sector. The tourism industry’s reliance on energy sources such as water, electricity, and fossil fuels underscores the need for a thorough evaluation of systems and frameworks to ensure sustainability and resilience. Gedangan Village, located 14 km west of Boyolali's town center, is a major vegetable-producing area in Cepogo District, Central Java, Indonesia, characterized by its productive highland agriculture. Method: This study uses a descriptive-analytical method with a qualitative approach, focusing on a case study in Gedangan Village to understand its potential, issues, and transformations. The location was purposively selected due to its relevance, and data was collected through purposive sampling of key informants. The paper employs a literature review to support its findings, leveraging various databases and sources. Conclusion: The conclusion highlights the need for enhancing technological use and human resources to maximize Gedangan's agricultural potential and address the challenges posed by climate change.

Abstract

Effective waste management remains a problem in Senden Village, especially regarding waste sorting. This issue encourages the KKN UNS 150 2024 team to conduct education related to waste management in the form of community service. The aim of this activity is to raise public awareness about the importance of effective and sustainable waste management and to encourage creative innovations in waste utilization. The method applied includes outreach and hands-on practice. The community service activities carried out include training on making candles from used cooking oil, the Merah Putih Environment Challenges, and socialization on the introduction of the 3Rs. The training on making candles from used cooking oil is aimed at the PKK mothers in Ngabean Hamlet. The result of this activity is the community's skill in processing used cooking oil waste into aromatherapy candles. The Merah Putih Environment Challenges activity targets a larger scope, specifically the mothers in Ngabean Hamlet. The outcome of this activity is the creation of handicrafts from inorganic waste. The socialization on the introduction of the 3Rs (reduce, reuse, recycle) is directed at the students of SD Negeri Senden 2. This activity effectively enhances students' understanding and awareness regarding proper waste management. The conclusion of this community service activity is that the residents of Senden Village, particularly those in Ngabean hamlet, are expected to have a good understanding of waste management and be prudent in handling it.

Abstract

Background: The application of agricultural technology has an important role in increasing the productivity and efficiency of farming businesses. A case study in Sroyo Village, Jaten District, Karanganyar Regency shows that the application of technological innovations such as tractor engines, rice harvesting machines and rice milling units has had a positive impact on increasing agricultural yields. Apart from that, the transfer of knowledge and knowledge through extension by the Agricultural Extension Center (BPP) also contributes to improving farmers' skills in crop cultivation and animal husbandry. Methods: The analytical method used is the descriptive method. Findings: Although there are challenges such as environmental pollution due to industrial waste around agricultural land, this problem can be overcome by utilizing irrigation from local wells. The main potential of Sroyo Village lies in the rice commodity, where farmers are able to carry out three harvests a year, supported by the availability of adequate irrigation. Conclusion: The application of agricultural technology and knowledge transfer is expected to increase productivity, efficiency and quality of agricultural products, as well as support sustainable agricultural development in the region.

Abstract

Modernization is the process of transformation from traditional conditions towards more modern, developed, and prosperous states. This occurs across various aspects of community life, including rural areas. This research was conducted in Wonolopo Village with the aim of understanding its potential, issues, structural transformation, institutional transformation, and technological transfer. The research method utilized was descriptive analytics, gathering data through interviews. The research findings indicate that Wonolopo Village holds potential in the agricultural sector, particularly in rice and sugarcane cultivation. However, the main issue lies in fertilizer availability. Structural transformation occurs with each change of village leadership, while institutional transformation has been relatively limited in the past decade. Technological transfer has occurred, notably in the adoption of tractors in agriculture. Analysis of agricultural development models suggests the need for technological and institutional innovations to maximize Wonolopo Village's potential. The conclusion of this research underscores the importance of developing agricultural development models tailored to the village's conditions and potential, as well as the significance of collaboration with knowledgeable human resources. Recommendations include the necessity for improvement in village potential management and collaboration with more proficient human resources.
