Abstract

This community services activity aims to determine the potential and problems, structural transformation, institutional transformation, technology application, and suitable model regarding the agricultural development in Gaum Village, Tasikmadu Subdistrict, Karanganyar Regency. The methods used were face-to-face interviews with relevant resource persons, observation, and descriptive analysis for data processing. The results reveal that the potential in this village is its vast agricultural land, while the problems faced are crop pests and limited fertilizer with high prices. Structural transformation in the agriculture sector in this village is characterized by a shift from traditional practices with low productivity and even losses to modern practices with higher productivity, even though the commodity prices often fluctuate every year. Institutional transformation in this village tends not to undergo bureaucratic change despite the change of village head. The application of agricultural technology in this village is also not optimal, as the majority of farmers here still apply traditional methods to cultivate their agricultural land. The diffusion model is considered more appropriate to be applied for the agricultural development in Gaum Village. In this context, this model aims to increase agricultural productivity through dissemination of new technologies and knowledges.

Abstract

Indonesia remains the sixth largest cocoa producer globally, with exports predominantly comprising cocoa beans (60%).  As global cocoa demand and consumption increase, it is imperative that leading cocoa-producing countries, including Indonesia, capitalize on this trend. To facilitate informed future decisions, Indonesia must identify the key drivers of growth for its cocoa bean exports. This study analyses the factors influencing the growth of Indonesia's cocoa bean exports to five key export destinations, namely Malaysia, America, India, China, and the Netherlands, using panel data analysis. The study found that the growth of Indonesia's cocoa bean exports was significantly impacted by four variables, namely the export volume of cocoa beans, Indonesia's GDP, economic distance, and the population of export destination countries. On the other hand, the variables such as GDP of export destination countries, production, productivity, exchange rates, prices of world cocoa beans, harvested area, and domestic cocoa bean prices did not demonstrate any noteworthy impact on the exports. The development of sustainable cocoa bean exports holds great potential. If the Indonesian government wishes to improve cocoa bean production centers, a collaborative strategy is necessary, particularly among stakeholders to support the development of sustainable cocoa bean exports.

Abstract

Indonesia was a prime sugar exporter country in the past, but since year 1967 has been importing sugar from other countries. Sugar import volume has been increasing every year so Indonesia has become second largest sugar importer in the recent years. Based on those problems, this research aims to analyze the factors that affect Indonesian sugar imports. The data used for analysis is secondary data in the form of time series in the range of 20 years (2000 – 2019), which were collected from various related agencies. Data analysis uses Seemingly Unrelated Regression (SUR), which was used to analyze the effect of sugar production, GDP, sugar consumption, domestic sugar prices, International sugar prices, and rupiah exchange rate on the volume of Indonesian sugar imports. The result shows that only sugar consumption affects significantly sugar imports, while sugar production, GDP, domestic sugar prices, international sugar prices, and the rupiah exchange rate do not significantly affect sugar imports. Sugar consumption is affected by GDP and domestic sugar prices, while sugar production is affected by domestic sugar prices. In addition, sugar imports volume shows that trend imports grew positively with an estimated trend of 197.978 tons per year in the 2000 – 2019 period. According to the sugar import trend, can be concluded that there will be growth of sugar import volume in the coming years. Based on SUR analysis, sugar imports growth is caused by consumption growth and consumption growth is affected by the growth of GDP and the decrease in domestic sugar prices. One policy that can be implemented by the government to resolve the sugar import problems is the policy on sugar prices, because high sugar prices decrease sugar consumption, and on the other hand also increase domestic sugar production.

Abstract

Agricultural development plays a crucial role in Indonesia's economic growth, particularly because the majority of its population relies on the agricultural sector. However, this sector faces several challenges, such as structural, institutional, and technological issues. To address these challenges, Palur Village, Mojolaban District, Sukoharjo Regency, is the focus of this study. Through descriptive analysis method, primary and secondary data were obtained through interviews, observations, and recordings. Palur Village's potential includes significant agricultural land and productive human resources, but it faces issues of resource allocation and a lack of interest in agriculture. Structural transformation indicates a shift from the agricultural sector to the industrial or service sectors, but with low incomes. Institutional transformation, on one hand, shows continuity in existing institutional functions without major changes, but the success and changes occurring in local financial institutions indicate the need for further transformation. Technology transfer, especially through the use of modern tools and technology in agriculture, has brought positive changes but still faces challenges in adopting innovations. Based on this analysis, the appropriate agricultural development model for Palur Village is The Diffusion Model, which emphasizes education and the dissemination of technology to enhance productivity and address the challenges faced by local farmers. With proper implementation, this model can serve as a foundation for improving welfare and economic growth in Palur Village and similar areas.

Abstract

Introduction: Meeting rice needs is largely determined by the level of domestic rice production. However, the various dynamics that occur provide encouragement to provide an overview of the conditions for meeting food needs, namely in the form of rice, based on trends in rice production and how independent variables correlate with rice production. The aim of this research is to determine the projected rice production for 2023-2032 and determine the strength of the relationship between the dependent variable (rice production) and the independent variables in the form of harvested area, price of harvested dry grain, price of urea fertilizer and price. Methods: namely a quantitative descriptive method with secondary time series data from 1993-2022. Data analysis techniques for forecasting studies are by using Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (ARIMA) analysis. Meanwhile, in the correlation analysis of rice production using the Pearson correlation. Results: Projections for rice commodity production in Indonesia from 2023 to 2032 using the MA1 model show a positive trend. Analysis of the relationship between the independent variable and the dependent variable, namely harvest area (X1), rice price (X2), urea fertilizer price (X3), and price of other food commodities, namely corn (X4) shows a significant positive relationship with rice production in Indonesia. Conclusion: Projections for rice commodity production in Indonesia from 2023 to 2032, which were analyzed using the MA 1 model, obtained data with a positive trend which states that based on past data, Indonesian rice production will continue to increase every year in line with domestic food needs.
