Abstract

The main objective of this research was to analyze the influence of bait and funnel constructions on the catch of deep sea pot in Palabuhanratu Bay. The experimental fishing used each of 5 units rigid and soft funnel of the deep sea pots filled with bait of shark and ray meat. The result showed that shark and ray baits did not have a significant influence on the weight of pots catch. The rigid and soft funnel constructions also did not have a significant influence on the catch. Therefore, both shark and ray baits used on the deep sea pots for catching fish at the depth of 200 m in Palabuhanratu Bay had the same effectiveness. The rigid funnel pot was a more suitable construction to catch fish, because it was easy to construct, relatively heavy and fast to sink, so it reduced the setting time.

Abstract

Coral reef ecosystems is one of the major coastal and marine ecosystems that haveecological value, economic and aesthetic. Unfortunately, the ecosystem continuesto come under pressure from a variety of activities such as fishing, tourism, pollution and other activities. This study aims to determine the condition of coralreef ecosystems in the Regional Marine Protected Area (RMPA) East Bintan.Observations of coral reefs is done using a modification of the square transectmethod and condition of coral reefs can be estimated by the percentage of livecoral cover approach. While the analysis of water quality refers to the APHA. Tosee the linkages between the biophysical environment-chemical characteristics ofwater with each of the locations used multivariable statistical analysis approach toPCA (Principal Component Analysis). The results show that coral reefs in theMarine Protected Area Region East Bintan including the condition of 'being' to'good'. This condition is caused by the pressure of population activities in the pastsuch as sea sand mining, leaching of bauxite tailings disposal, tailings sandmining land, and the impact of destructive fishing continues until the timeresearch was conducted. Meanwhile, the measured water quality is below the seawater quality standard for marine life. Further analysis of the factors in marineenvironment conditions with live coral cover showed that the live coral cover wasnegatively correlated with most variable environmental parameters such as flowvelocity, salinity, TSS, DO, BOD5, nitrate, sediment and algae. except fortemperature, brightness, and depth and phosphate positively correlated.

Abstract

Abstract

Jakarta is the capital of the state whose condition is very dense; to meet the requirement of land for the development and expansion of Jakarta, the reclamation of Jakarta Bay was planned. In addition to overcome the limitations of the land, reclamation activities will also be able to play a very important role in the rearrangement and can give a distinctive character to the area Ancol Beach.   One of the activities affected due to the reclamation of Jakarta Bay is a fisheries activity.  Fishermen in the Bay of Jakarta actually have shown opposition to reclamation, so the control of ongoing projects and activities related to dredging is necessary to ensure that the impacts are very minimal impact on fisheries and aquaculture activities. It was required a study of the impact of reclamation on fisheries  activities and fishermen adaptation.  The objectives of this study are (1) to understand the knowledge and acceptance of the fishermen to the reclamation activity, (2) to understand the fishing community's perception of the impact of reclamation and (3) to understand the patterns of adaptation of the fishing communities due to the reclamation.  Desktop study and interview were conducted to collect the data.  Calculation of composition and GIS analysis were conducted to analyze the data.  The level of knowledge of fishermen in Cilincing, Muara Angke and Muara Baru on reclamation activities showed a low level of knowledge.  Sedimentation during the reclamation process is a major concern to the fisheries. Some fishermen said the reclamation had no impact on the fishing areas. Fishermen will keep trying to catch fish even have to move their fishing areas or have to move their village.Keyword: reclamation, Jakarta Bay, fisheries, fisherman

Abstract

Kapoposang Island and the surrounding waters has been appointed by Indonesian Governmet to be a part of waters tour park in South Sulawesi, implying the requirement of the marine resources, including seagrass ecosystems in this area, should be well managed in order to provide biodiversity protection and sustainable use of the seagrass ecosystems. For this purpose, one of basic required information is seagrass distribution and habitat structure. This study was aimed to 1) observe the location of continues seagrass beds, 2) identify the habitat structure in each site of continues seagrass beds. A combination of visual observation and transect method was applied to determine the sites of continues seagrass beds, while seagrass habitat structure was identified based on ecological habitat structure model. Study results revealed that continues seagrass beds were only found in five different sites of Kapoposang coastal waters. Seagrass habitat structure among the five sites were in variable and the highest seagrass cover was found in two sites, namely 1) site A in the north-west part of the island (S04o41'42.5"; E118o56'59.5") dominated by Thalassia hemprichii and 2) site E located in the north part of the island (S04o41'57.8"; E118o57'45.7") dominated by Enhalus acoroides. Both of these sites were different in heterogeneity but similar in complexity. Keywords: Thalassia hemprichii, Enhalus acoroides, continues seagrass beds, habitat structure

Abstract

Title: Sustainability Analysis of Mariculture Management in Saleh Bay of Sumbawa DistrictThis study aimed at determiny value of the index and the sustainability status in terms of economic dimension and provide recommendations for policies on marine aquaculture management in the Saleh Bay. Rap-Insus-Seaweed (Rapid Appraisal of Sustainability-Index Seaweed) and Rap-Insus-Grouper (Rapid Appraisal of Sustainability-Index Grouper) modified from Rapfish program were use in this study. Results showed that the index level of sustainability in terms of economic dimension were “39.74” and “31.23” for seaweed grouper  espectively. This value laid between 25.00 and 49.9 indicating that both management status were “Less Sustainable”. These values indicate that the economic conditions of that particular site was not support sustainable management of the marine aquaculture. Hence, government policing intervention through increased capital, technical training in aquaculture and processing as well as improvement in market institution are required.
