Abstract

Abstract

The Saleh Bay is one of the bays in West Nusa Tenggara utilized as the grouper fishing ground. However, in the previous spawning potential ratio study, some grouper species have been overexploited in Saleh Bay. This study aimed to estimate the status of grouper utilization with a catch per unit effort (CPUE) approach and the spatio-temporal fishing intensity of grouper in fishing grounds in Saleh Bay. Data were gathered using the fish landing data and geo-reference of fishing ground grouper in Saleh Bay. This study used several methods: descriptive analysis, catch per unit effort, and spatial-temporal analysis. The result showed that the catch unit effort positively impacts production, with the increasing trend of grouper fishing in Saleh Bay waters. The CPUE value in 2016 was 2.82 kg/trip, while in 2020, it increased to 3.99 kg/trip. Spatially and temporally, fishers caught grouper around small islands such as Liang Island, Dempu Island, Lipan Island, Takat Nusa Pudu, and Rakit Island. The highest intensity of grouper fishing around the marine protected area, namely Rakit Island, Liang Island, and Ngali Island. Keywords: catch per unit effort, fishing ground, grouper, Saleh Bay

Abstract

Ponyfish (Leiognathus spp.) is one of the dominant types of fish landed at the Nusantara Fishing Port (PPN) Karangantu. Its high-intensity fishing activities are feared to cause future problems with the sustainability of ponyfish resources. This study aims to calculate fishing productivity, sustainable optimal fishing effort, maximum sustainable catch, and determine the pattern of fishing season in Banten Bay. The research was conducted from April to June 2021 at PPN Karangantu. The fishing gear analyzed were fixed lift nets, floating lift nets, and seine nets. Fishing productivity was calculated from catch per unit effort; the maximum sustainable catch was analyzed using the Schaefer, Fox, and Walter-Hilborn regression models. The seasonal pattern of the ponies was determined from the Fishing Season Index. The results showed that pony fishing productivity in PPN Karangantu decreased from 2016 to 2020. The optimum fishing effort value and the optimum catch through the Schaefer model were 2088 trips/year and 276.12 tons/year, respectively; the highest fishing season occurred in November (145.5%) and the lowest in May (70.2%). Based on the analysis of the Schaefer, Fox and Walter-Hilborn models, the exploitation of Ponyfish (Leiognathus spp.) in Banten Bay can be said to be over-exploited. Abstract

- The fishermen in Sendang Biru, Malang, East Java Province, Indonesia, using boat ≤5 GT, specifically an outrigger boat with 10,6 m Length of Overall (LoA), 1,3 m Breadth (B), and 0,7 m Depth (D), have experienced low priced fish catches for many years caused by low quality of fish handling on board. In this research, the researcher overcomes the problem by designing the solar powered cooling engine (SPCE) to maintain the caught fish quality on boat ≤5 GT, especially the boat with outrigger and size as previously mentioned. Meanwhile, the outrigger boat as mentioned above has limited in term of its space and its capacity on board. The research designed the SPCE that fitted to space and capacity of the outrigger boat. The stability of the boat had been analyzed by using IMO resolution on “IMO A.749 (18) Chapter 3”. The result of the analyses showed that the SPCE designed met the IMO criteria applicable to all ships, which has GZ Max 0,492 m at 25.5°, and as the general arrangement of the SPCE on the boat, the SPCE device put in the middle of the boat while in the back part of the boat is fisher working area.
