Abstract

Arabic maharah qira’ah learning for non-native speakers still faces obstacles in text comprehension due to limited vocabulary, the complexity of language structures, and the use of learning approaches that tend to be partial rather than integrative. This study aims to analyze integratively the application of bottom-up, top-down, and interactive reading theories in maharah qira’ah learning. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the library research method. Data were obtained from various literature sources such as books, scientific journal articles, and relevant previous studies, then analyzed using content analysis techniques. The results of the study show that the bottom-up approach plays a role in the gradual recognition of language elements, while the top-down approach helps comprehension through background knowledge activities, and the interactive model integrates both simultaneously. The integration of these three approaches becomes more effective when applied in systematic learning stages, namely pre-reading, during-reading, and post-reading. Thus, the integration of reading theories can be a strategic solution in developing maharah qira’ah learning that is more comprehensive, systematic, and effective for non-native speakers.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the process of internalising character values among female students through the Fiqhunnisa Programme at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Putri 1, as well as to identify the character values instilled in the programme. The Fiqhunnisa Programme is a learning activity designed to equip female students with an understanding of women’s fiqh whilst instilling Islamic character values relevant to daily life. This study employs a qualitative approach using a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with mentors and female students, and documentation of activities. Data analysis was conducted through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions, whilst data validity was tested using source and method triangulation techniques. The research findings indicate that the internalisation of character values within the Fiqhunnisa Programme is carried out through several stages, namely the imparting of an understanding of values, setting a good example, habit formation, supervision, and evaluation. The character values internalised include religiosity, responsibility, discipline, positive modesty, politeness, cleanliness, and self-awareness as Muslim women. The internalisation of these values takes place not only through the delivery of material but also through direct practice in the daily lives of the female students within the boarding school environment. The Fiqhunnisa programme contributes to shaping the character of female students so that they possess noble morals, understand their role and identity as women in accordance with Islamic teachings, and are able to implement these values in both their personal and social lives.

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to examine the effect of Renderforest-based animated video on students’ Fiqh learning outcomes by comparing post-test results between an experimental group taught using animated video media and a control group taught using conventional instructional methods. Methodology: This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental approach with a posttest-only control group design. Renderforest software was used to develop animated video learning media. Data were collected through a post-test instrument. Statistical analysis was conducted using SPSS software, including normality testing, homogeneity testing, and the Mann–Whitney U test. Main Findings: The results showed a significant difference in students’ Fiqh learning outcomes between the experimental and control groups. Students who were taught using Renderforest-based animated videos achieved higher post-test scores than those taught using conventional methods. The Mann–Whitney U test indicated a statistically significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.001). Novelty/Originality of this study: This study offers novelty by specifically examining the effectiveness of Renderforest-based animated video media in Fiqh instruction through a quantitative quasi-experimental approach. Unlike previous studies that discuss animated videos in general, this research focuses on the Renderforest platform to present abstract Fiqh concepts contextually, thereby strengthening empirical evidence on digital instructional innovation in Islamic education.

Abstract

This study examines the dynamics of transformational leadership and self-discipline among student leaders of DEMA UNIDA Gontor (Student Executive Board of UNIDA Gontor), an Islamic higher education institution with a pesantren-based environment. Using a qualitative phenomenological approach, the research collected primary data through in-depth interviews with seven student leaders who actively manage organizational programs and responsibilities. Additional observational data were gathered from Leadership training activities and routine organizational meetings to enrich the contextual understanding of Leadership practices and the formation of discipline. The findings reveal that transformational Leadership is consistently reflected through clarity of vision, moral exemplification, encouragement of creativity, and opportunities for members to grow. At the same time, self-discipline emerges as a fundamental mechanism that supports fulfilling organizational duties, particularly through daily planning, prioritization, avoiding procrastination, and consistent time management. The integration of these two elements forms a leadership model that is value-oriented, participatory, and rooted in Islamic principles of amanah and adab. Furthermore, the study highlights that self-discipline not only strengthens organizational effectiveness but also contributes to the character formation of student leaders within the pesantren culture. These findings provide important implications for leadership development in student organizations, emphasizing the need for integrated leadership training that combines vision, role modeling, and structured discipline.

Abstract

Abstract: This community service program was carried out to improve the understanding of members of the Ummu Salamah Precet Islamic Study Group in Ngawi regarding the meanings of morning and evening dhikr recitations in Arabic. Previously, most participants merely recited the dhikr routinely without knowing its meanings and conceptual content, resulting in verbal practice that did not lead to optimal spiritual internalization. The training program involved 35 female participants aged 30-60, with general educational backgrounds and regular attendance in weekly study sessions. The implementation consisted of four stages: introducing the dhikr texts and their translations, providing exercises on correct articulation of Arabic letters and words, deepening meaning through interactive discussions that linked the content of the dhikr with religious contexts and daily life, and a final evaluation accompanied by the distribution of pocket books containing Arabic script, Latin transliteration, and Indonesian translation as self-study media. Evaluation was conducted through observation of articulation performance, a simple test consisting of ten oral questions related to meaning comprehension, and brief interviews about participants’ spiritual experiences. The results indicated improved understanding of the meanings of the dhikr, greater accuracy in articulation based on basic phonetic principles, and increased motivation to perform dhikr with awareness, along with enhanced group cohesion, thereby making dhikr practice more meaningful in daily worship activities.

Abstract

The development of twenty-first-century skills has become a major priority in education, requiring learning approaches that integrate critical thinking, creativity, communication, and collaboration (4Cs). Within Islamic boarding schools (pesantren), these competencies need to be developed while preserving Islamic educational values. This study aimed to describe the implementation of the El-Thoria Art Exhibition based on Experiential Learning, examine its contribution to the development of santri's 21st-century skills, and identify the Islamic values reflected throughout the program. A descriptive qualitative field study was conducted at Pondok Modern Darussalam Gontor Putri Campus 1 involving 29 purposively selected informants. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña. The findings indicate that the El-Thoria Art Exhibition was implemented through the stages of Kolb's Experiential Learning cycle, providing authentic learning experiences in planning, artwork production, exhibition management, presentation, and reflection. These activities illustrated the development of critical thinking through collaborative problem-solving and decision-making, creativity through artwork design and innovation, communication through presentations and interactions with visitors, and collaboration through teamwork and shared responsibilities. The findings also revealed the internalization of Islamic values, including amanah (trustworthiness), responsibility, discipline, ta'awun (mutual cooperation), and leadership during the exhibition process. These findings suggest that the El-Thoria Art Exhibition represents an experiential learning practice that integrates the development of 21st-century skills with Islamic character education within the context of pesantren.

Abstract

International relations are currently dominated by western paradigms and secular thinking that causes a separation between religious and world affairs in the life of social and political aspects. The purpose of this study is to identify the application of Islamization of Science in the study of International Relations at University of Darussalam Gontor based on the Islamic Worldview and reflect on the practice in the time of the Prophet and Caliph, to be implemented into the diplomatic aspects of the contemporary era. This research uses a qualitative approach with data collection techniques using library research. The result of this research is that it has been found that the International Relations study program at University of Darussalam Gontor has integrated Islamic Science with International Relations, with the application of Islamization of Science into the learning curriculum both in formal courses and with several routine Islamization study activities under the auspices of the Directorate of Islamization. Islamization is an urgency in itself to deny the understanding of secularism that has dominated all aspects of the discipline of International Relations, therefore, as a tamyiz academic community, we should always continue to support the Islamization of Contemporary Science movement, in order to gain an understanding of science based on haqiqi truth.

Abstract

Developments in the world of education require Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) not only to produce graduates who excel in religious studies but also to provide opportunities for developing entrepreneurial competencies aligned with Islamic values. This study aims to analyze the implementation of experiential learning-based edupreneurship through the Student Cooperative (Kopel) division of the Pondok Modern Student Organization (OPPM) and to describe the development of the “santripreneur” spirit at Modern Islamic Boarding School Darussalam Gontor for Girls 1st Campus. This study employed a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with three informants consisting of Kopel mentors/advisors and Kopel administrators, and documentation of cooperative activities and administrative records. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model through data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification. Data credibility was established through source and technique triangulation. The findings indicate that edupreneurship through Kopel is implemented through planning, management, service, and evaluation activities that directly involve students in cooperative operations. These activities provide students with experiential learning opportunities in leadership, responsibility, decision-making, problem-solving, financial management, teamwork, and service. The findings also show that students’ involvement in cooperative activities is associated with the development of santripreneur characteristics, including independence, discipline, responsibility, creativity, collaboration, and integrity, which are practiced within the framework of Islamic values. Thus, Kopel functions not only as a business unit but also as a practical learning environment for developing entrepreneurial competencies and Islamic character among students.
