Abstract

The purpose of this research were to describe about how was the learning quality of Team Games Tournament (TGT) in students' mathematical problem solving abilities, and to describe about how were students' problem solving abilities based on Newman's procedures. The research method used was a mixed method where students are subjected to TGT learning models. The population used in this study were students of class VIII in one of junior high school in Pekalongan in the even semester of the 2018/2019 academic year distributed in four classes and the sample used was class VIIIC. The subjects in this study was selected by using purposive sampling techniques with consideration that the selected subjects can represent each category of mathematical problem solving abilities. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be concluded that learning process of TGT that have been conducted in the research class is in accordance with the lesson plan and other support devices or tools that has been made by researchers. Based on observations made by the observer, the criteria obtained for students and teacher activities were very good. The average learning outcomes of class VIIIC students that were subjected to TGT learning model in students' mathematical problem solving abilities have reached mastery learning. Research subjects that have high problem solving ability generally know the location and cause of the error when working on a problem, research subjects that have problem solving ability are partially aware of the location and cause of the error when working on a problem, and research subjects who have low problem solving ability generally do not know the location and cause of the error when working on a problem.

This study uses the stages of Research and Development (R&D) covering potential and problems; data collection; product design; design validation (potential test and feasibility test); product test (readability test and attractiveness test); use trials (effectiveness test) and the final product. The results of the study indicate that teaching materials have the potential to improve the ability of mathematical conceptual understanding; valid, easy to understand, attractive in appearance, and effectively improve the ability of mathematical conceptual understanding. The test results show that teaching materials have the potential to increase the ability of mathematical conceptual understanding with a percentage of 86.5%. The results of the feasibility test show that the teaching materials are valid for use with a percentage of 86.07%. The results of the readability test showed that the teaching materials were easily understood by students with a percentage of 92.26%. The results of the response test showed that the teaching materials were attractive in appearance with a percentage of 90.15%. Then, the results of the effectiveness test showed that the teaching materials were effective in increasing the ability of mathematical conceptual understanding.

Abstract

One of skills needed in the disruption era is the mathematical connection ability. However, this ability has not been optimally facilitated through learning process. In fact, the disruption era also encourages renewal, one of which is through the provision of quality learning resources both in terms of content and approach. In addition, the disrupstion era has also led to various approaches that more suitable with existing developments and changes, such as the STEAM approach. Therefore, it is important to develop a qualified STEAM-based mathematics teaching material to improve students' mathematical connection abilities. The development of this teaching material uses a modified Borg and Gall model of research and development (R&D) method. There are ten stages that aim to develop and describe the quality of STEAM-based mathematics teaching materials in three indicators, namely validity (characteristics suitability and feasibility), practicality (readability), and effectiveness in improving students' mathematical connection abilities. The final results are STEAM-based mathematics teaching materials that are valid (meet the teaching materials characteristics suitability and include in the very feasible category with feasibility score of 89,09%), practical (easy to understand with readability score of 67.13%), and effective in improving students’ mathematical connection abilities with moderate improvement category (with gain normalization index score of 0.395).

The place of research is at MTs Darul Hikmah Kedung Jepara. The research subjects were seventh grade students of MTs Darul Hikmah who were selected through purposive sampling technique. The data was collected by giving a test of mathematical literacy skills and semi-structured interviews. The results showed that students with high learning independence category were able to solve well problems of low and medium level mathematical literacy skills. Students with moderate learning independence category were able to solve low and medium level mathematical literacy skills, but there were still errors. Students with low learning independence category are only able to solve low level questions well.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate how an augmented reality mobile math trails program can provide opportunities for students to engage in meaningful mathematical modelling activities. An explorative research design was conducted involving two mathematics teachers and 30 eight grades in Semarang, Indonesia. An Augmented Reality Mobile Math Trails App was created, and several math trail tasks were designed, then students run the activity. Data were gathered by means of participatory observation, interviews, questionnaires, tests, and worksheets. Data analysis began with the organisation, annotation, description of the data and statistic tests. The findings indicate that an educational program was successfully designed, which offered students a meaningful mathematical experience. A mobile app was also developed to support this program. The mobile app with augmented reality features is helpful for students as a tool that bridges the gap between real-world situations and mathematical concepts in problem-solving following the mathematical modelling cycle. The program thus contributes to a higher ability in mathematical modelling. The study identified a link between instrumented techniques in programs and mathematical modelling, as built during the instrumentation process. Further studies are essential for project development and implementation in other cities with different situations and aspects of study.

Abstract

The ability to think creatively is very important to be developed in students, especially when learning is starting to shift to blended learning where students are required to be able to organize portions and also how to learn independently, for this reason, students in this era need to grow their creative abilities to be able to keep up with educational developments. This study aims to conduct studies related to factors that can foster creative thinking skills. The research method used in this study is the SLR (Systematic Literture Review) method. Data collection is done by collecting similar research articles and limiting it to the topic of mathematical creative thinking skills. The articles used in this study were 20 articles with the topic of creative thinking skills. Based on the literature review, the most influencing factors in creative thinking skills are problem-based models and open-ended approaches. For this reason, using the CPS model with an open-ended approach will provide a model with a new alternative approach that can be tried to improve creative thinking skills.
