Abstract

Distance Education has great potential to become a model for the world's future education. The rapid development of technology, the demands of the global professional world, as well as various extraordinary events, such as the COVID-19 pandemic which could recur at any time, are the main reasons for the need to implement distance education. Therefore, to maintain the existence of distance education, research is needed that can look at perceptions of brand equity, namely brand awareness and brand association with perceived quality. This research aims to explain how society accepts open and distance state colleges, particularly among students in Indonesia. The research subjects were 812 respondents obtained through probability sampling using multistage random sampling from three regions in Indonesia, namely Vocational High School Bina Warga Bandung representing western Indonesia, Public High School 16 Makassar representing Central Indonesia, and Public High School 1 Jayapura representing the eastern part of Indonesia. The results of the research show that there is a strong relationship between brand awareness and community brand association on the desire to continue studying at open and distance higher education institutions. This research providing recommendations for PTJJ should not only focus on promotion/marketing strategies to increase interest in continuing community studies at PTJJ but also focus on strategies that can increase brand equity.

The number of respondents is 35 students. The instrument of the research is as follows observation checklist, questionnaire, test, and interview. the pupils were exposed to novel experiences, such as technology integration, which heightened their enthusiasm. Second, instructors' preparations from creating the learning process to presenting some answers to the issues experienced by previous group discussion implementers until the evaluation before the learning program began all contributed to the learning process's success. Third, after their projects were completed, the students' improvement in speaking abilities and other related skills may have been prompted by the input in English and topic materials they received from their teachers, as well as their learning from a variety of sources. Fourth, by their hands-on participation in completing the job, students gained many exposures to English through meaningful interactions with actual information. As a result, it may be concluded that group discussion is valuable for instructors to use in the classroom, particularly in EFL learners.

Abstract

Developing speaking skill is difficult for foreign language teachers and learners since they rarely use the target language outside the classroom. However, students need more opportunities and confidence to use it outside the classroom. Thus, teachers must adopt various teaching methods to strengthen the students’ speaking skill in English. Nowadays, students must possess competencies relevant to the 21st century, such as analysis and problem-solving, creativity and invention, communication, teamwork, life skills, and efficient use of technology. Therefore, Project-Based Learning (PjBL) provides opportunities to learn deep content knowledge and 21st-century skills. One of the methods used is using Podcast. A podcast is an up-to-date technology for improving students’ listening and speaking abilities. This qualitative study intends to determine the implementation of project-based learning using podcast-assisted media in teaching English speaking skill at one of the schools in Mojokerto, East Java, and the student’s perspective on it. The research participants were grade XI Science students. The data were collected through observation and interview. The data were analyzed using an analysis flow by Miles and Huberman which included data reduction, displaying the data, and a conclusion. This study showed that implementing project-based learning using podcast-assisted media in teaching English speaking skill ran smoothly. Students responded enthusiastically. At last, the students’ perspectives are also positive since Podcast-assisted media is able to enrich not only their speaking skill but also develop other language skills.
