Abstract

Symbol sense is crucial in the understanding of mathematical problems comprising various symbols. The misuses of symbols happen due to misinterpretation, which is considered the constraint to learn algebra more comprehensively, including in linear programming. The term metaphor is defined as a means to carry over symbol sense, and is used to improve mathematical understanding. This present research was aimed at analyzing errors on mathematical symbol as a metaphor in linear programming. This research was conducted by means of descriptive qualitative design, with a test and interview as the instruments. The test was made essay, and its results were analyzed qualitatively. The test, further, was administered to five eleventh graders selected according to highest rates of errors committed. This research has shown that the students committed a number of errors in some cases, such as representing symbols as variables, representing numbers, and interpreting symbols as relational operators. In addition, errors which the students committed in constructing mathematical models covered defining the final value, representing numbers, applying inequality system, and interpreting symbols as operation counts. This present research has provided some ways for symbol sense, and thus the errors on mathematical symbol as a metaphor could be lessened. Next, this research can be further followed up by reviewing the effectiveness of remedial instruction according to the committed errors on mathematical symbols.

Abstract

This community service activity aimed to improve elementary school teachers’ competence in developing Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS)-based assessment instruments through training and mentoring. The activity involved 20 elementary school teachers and was conducted through several stages, including needs analysis, HOTS assessment training, hands-on practice with intensive mentoring, and evaluation using pre-tests, post-tests, assessment quality analysis, and questionnaires. The results showed an improvement in teachers’ understanding, indicated by an increase in the average score from 45 in the pre-test to 78 in the post-test. In addition, the proportion of HOTS items developed by teachers increased from 20% to 75% after the training and mentoring activities. Teachers reported that the program was practical and helped them design assessment instruments that require higher-order thinking skills. Overall, this activity demonstrates that training combined with mentoring is effective in enhancing teachers’ competence in HOTS-based assessment.

Abstract

This inspirational internship activity was conducted to address the need for enhancing leadership and school management capacity within the Muhammadiyah educational network of Cirebon Regency. Held at Limau Bendi School, Kebayoran Baru, from September 15–17, 2025, the program involved school principals and board members of the Education Council. The goal is to gain direct insights into best practices in visionary leadership, learning innovation, and school culture. This community service program utilizes activity mentoring and inspiration workshops. The mentoring results identified four success pillars of Limau Bendi. The mentoring results identified four pillars of Limau Bendi's success: visionary school leadership, the application of active technology-based learning methods, high community engagement, and a strong quality-oriented school culture. The study concludes that adapting these effective practices in Cirebon schools is highly feasible, with key recommendations focusing on comprehensive training for principals, improvement of technological facilities, and strengthening a collaborative culture. Implementing these recommendations is expected to significantly drive educational quality improvement.

Abstract

Era Revolusi Industri 4.0 menuntut penguasaan keterampilan 4C melalui wadah strategis seperti Komunitas Karya Ilmiah Remaja (KKIR).

Abstract

The gap between abstract mathematical concepts and local cultural realities often hinders the effectiveness of students' geometric comprehension. This study aims to integrate the architectural wisdom of the traditional Baeleo Hena Puan house as a contextual pedagogical framework to strengthen geometric literacy. Through a qualitative exploratory descriptive approach, an in-depth visual analysis of the architectural structure was conducted to identify geometric concepts such as two-dimensional shapes (rectangles, triangles, trapezoids) and three-dimensional solids (rectangular and triangular prisms). The findings demonstrate that these architectural elements not only represent physical forms but also embody patterns of repetition and reflectional symmetry, reflecting complex mathematical activities in accordance with D’Ambrosio’s ethnomathematics theory. This research concludes that transforming architectural values into instructional materials serves as a strategic bridge to enhance students' cognitive engagement in meaningful mathematics learning. The proposed pedagogical framework provides an integrated learning model that enables educators to transform ethnomathematical data into instructional media relevant to 21st-century competency requirements. By incorporating traditional building designs into the formal curriculum, geometry instruction becomes more applicable while simultaneously functioning as a tool for preserving cultural identity within a modern educational setting. Implementing this framework is expected to facilitate a paradigm shift from formula-based learning to context-based and experiential-based learning.
