Abstract

This research aims to describe the thinking of male and female students in solving whole number problems based on APOS theory. This descriptive qualitative research was conducted with two subjects, namely one subject with male gender and one subject with female gender. Both subjects are students with high mathematics ability. Subject selection was carried out using purposive sampling. Subjects were selected based on the scores obtained on the math problem test sheet. This research was conducted at one of the State Junior High Schools in Malang Regency. The instruments used in this study were math problem test sheets on integers and interviews. The results showed that: 1) Male students are able to fulfill all thinking indicators in each APOS mental structure in solving problems. Male students solve math problems through mental structures of action, process, object, and scheme; 2) Female students are able to fulfill all thinking indicators on each APOS mental structure in solving problems. Female students solve math problems through action, process, object and scheme mental structures.

Abstract

Sejak tahun 2002 Pemerintah menyelenggarakan Olimpiade Sains Nasional (OSN) untuk jenjang SMA. Sedangkan OSN untuk jenjang SD dan SMP diadakan sejak 2003. Matematika merupakan salah satu mata pelajaran yang dilombakan. Berdasarkan panduan OSN (2018), OSN Matematika SMP bertujuan mengukur secara langsung tiga aspek pemecahan masalah, penalaran, dan komunikasi tertulis. Oleh karena itu persiapan calon peserta OSN semestinya berorientasi kepada peningkatan kemampuan dalam ketiga aspek tersebut. Melalui kegiatan OSN Matematika ini diharapkan terpilih siswa-siswa terbaik yang menguasai Matematika sebagai embrio untuk dipersiapkan menjadi calon peserta olimpiade tingkat internasional (International Mathematics Olympiad). Mekanisme pelaksanaan lomba dibagi dalam beberapa tahap yaitu seleksi tingkat kota, tingkat propinsi dan tingkat nasional. Siswa MAN 2 Tulungagung sering lolos olimpiade matematika  tingkat kota (OSK) tetapi mereka tidak lolos pada  tingkat provinsi.  Oleh  karena itu pihak MAN 2 Tulungagung  mengadakan kerjasama dengan departemen matematika UM untuk memberikan bimbingan intensif materi OSP kepada  siswa mereka. Tujuan bimbingan intensif ini untuk memperlengkapi siswa mereka dengan soal-soal OSP. Dengan demikian diharapkan siswa-siswa tersebut bisa lolos OSP tahun 2024

Abstract

Creativity is the ability of students to generate new ideas based on their initial situation. The focus of creativity in this study is on mathematical objects that capture students' attention when solving creativity test problems and producing creative solutions. This research aimed to identify student creativity's focus in constructing quadratic functions through pattern generalization. This qualitative case study, grounded in Silver's creativity framework, involved two creative 10th-grade students from a high school in Malang City. Data were gathered through tests and interviews and analyzed using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion techniques. The findings revealed three focuses of student creativity in constructing quadratic functions through pattern generalization: focusing on intact squares or rectangles in considering the pattern generalization, focusing on separate shapes in considering pattern generalization and focusing on intersecting square shapes in considering pattern generalization. This study has not been conducted before, therefore filling a research gap and laying the foundation for a deeper understanding of how visual patterns foster students' creativity and enhance their comprehension of visual and symbolical quadratic functions.

Abstract

In education, creativity is viewed as a fundamental behaviour especially when it comes to mathematics where students are motivated to tackle problems in unique ways. The present study sought to design, construct and validate an instrument that would assess creativity in geometry by employing three aspects of creativity as proposed by the aforementioned model- fluency, flexibility and originality. The instrument was administered to 30 junior high school students in Malang Indonesian. In this study, the assessment of internal and external consistent validity and dimensional structure of the instrument using a combination of Cronbach’s Alpha, Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA), and inter-rater reliability was done. The reliability estimates showed that across the 7-item test, a validation score of Cronbach’s Alpha at 0.857 was achieved. Item-Total Statistics indicated that most items possessed high item-total correlations except item Q3 which possessed low item-total corrected correlation. EFA resulted in the segregation of 2 components which accounted for 81.280% of the variance of the construct and were labeled as fluency/flexibility and originality. This finding is consistent with already existing theories in creativity areas which argue that creative thinking is a multi-faceted phenomenon. This needs elucidation in order to improve the validity of the affected test items especially those aimed at measuring the different dimensions of creativity. The research enriches the existing literature based on creativity in mathematics education considering the primary aim to develop a sound and valid tool for assessing students' creative problem solving abilities in geometry.

Abstract

Errors in solving mathematical problems, especially in the material of sets, are still widely found in junior high schools. This study aims to describe the types of student errors and the factors causing them in solving problems about sets based on the Newman Procedure. The study was conducted on 31 eighth-grade students at one of the state junior high schools in Malang City, with three students (S-1 to S-3) selected as subjects by purposive sampling. The main instrument was the researcher, with supporting instruments in the form of tests and interviews. Data analysis was carried out using the Miles & Huberman model. The results of the study showed that subjects S-1 to S-2 misunderstood the problem (misunderstood what was actually known and asked in the problem incompletely), while S-3 did not. All subjects experienced transformation errors (wrong writing of mathematical models/formulas), process skills (miscalculations/not continuing the procedure), and final answers (wrong conclusions). The main causal factors include lack of reading accuracy, weak conceptual understanding, and errors in calculations and procedures. The implications of this study indicate the need for learning strategies that emphasize conceptual understanding, accuracy, and more systematic procedural solutions.

Abstract

Students' algebraic thinking skills must continue to be developed because they can support success in mathematics. Algebraic thinking relates to generalizing patterns learned at the junior secondary level. During the process of generalizing students use the perception of similarity or proximity. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to describe the algebraic thinking process of junior high school students in generalizing patterns. The approach used is qualitative with 3 research subjects who have different algebraic thought processes. The results showed that junior high school students carried out algebraic thought processes by perceiving images, representing, looking for functional relationships, making generalizations, and applying general formulas. The difference in perception is used early in the activity and in the search for functional relationships. The results of this study can be used in developing mathematics learning strategies so that students' algebraic thinking skills develop. Kemampuan berpikir aljabar siswa harus terus dikembangkan karena dapat mendukung kesuksesan dalam matematika. Berpikir aljabar generalisasi dengan generalisasi pola yang dipelajari pada tingkat SMP. Pada saat proses melakukan generalisasi siswa menggunakan persepsi similarity atau proximity. Oleh sebab itu, tujuan penelitian ini yaitu mendeskripsikan proses berpikir aljabar siswa SMP dalam melakukan generalisasi pola. Pendekatan yang digunakan yaitu kualitatif dengan 3 subjek penelitian yang memiliki proses berpikir aljabar yang berbeda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa siswa SMP melakukan proses berpikir aljabar dengan mempersepsikan gambar, merepresentasikan, mencari hubungan fungsional, melakukan generalisasi, dan mengaplikasikan rumus umum. Perbedaannya persepsi digunakan di awal kegiatan dan pada kegiatan pencarian hubungan fungsional. Hasil penelitian ini dapat digunakan dalam mengembangkan strategi pembelajaran matematika agar kemampuan berpikir aljabar siswa berkembang.

Abstract

Pelatihan pengenalan numerasi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis sangat penting dikembangkan bagi anak sekolah menengah atas. Sekolah Menengah Atas (SMA) Negeri 2 Pare Kediri melakukan kolaborasi dengan departemen Matematika Universitas Negeri Malang untuk melakukan pelatihan pengenalan numerasi untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berpikir kritis. Pelatihan dilakukan oleh dosen Pendidikan Matematika dan mahasiswa S3 Pendidikan Matematika, Universitas Negeri Malang. Numerasi merupakan salah satu penilaian dalam Asesmen Kompetensi Minimum (AKM) di tingkat sekolah menengah atas. Kemampuan Berpikir Kritis dikembangkan dengan memberikan stimulus numerasi yang selanjutnya dianalisis dengan mengacu pada 9 tipe pertanyaan. Metode yang digunakan dalam pelatihan ini adalah diskusi dan tanya jawab. Hasil pelatihan ini adalah meningkatnya berpikir kritis siswa yang ditunjukkan dengan angket.

Abstract

Admission of new students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah (MI) is a crucial stage in maintaining the quality of students and the quality of education. Selection usually considers the Institutional Development Contribution (SPI), calistung skills, and recitation of the Quran. However, non-standardized assessment creates injustice. This research develops a Fuzzy Inference System (FIS)-based decision support system with the Mamdani model to improve the objectivity and accuracy of selection. A quantitative approach is used with the help of Microsoft Excel for modeling. The system uses inputs in the form of SPI, calistung, and mengaji, and produces outputs in the form of selection result categories. The FIS process includes problem identification, fuzzification, fuzzy rule generation, Mamdani inference, and defuzzification using the centroid method. The results show that this system is able to produce decisions that are more fair, transparent, and in accordance with the principles of Islamic education and the needs of madrasah development. The integration of fuzzy technology is proven to support more professional education governance and responsiveness to selection challenges.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh penting media pembelajaran Si Gesit dalam meningkatkan efektivitas pembelajaran pada siswa kelas 5 SDN Kunjang 2 Kediri yang memerlukan intervensi khusus. Perkembangan Si Gesit dalam pembelajaran literasi dan numerasi dinyatakan valid oleh tiga orang ahli. Penilaian ahli materi dengan persentase 92% ahli media dengan persentase 97% dan ahli bahasa dengan persentase 80%. Hasil uji coba kelompok kecil dengan 6 orang siswa diperoleh persentase 90%, dan kelompok besar uji coba dengan 16 siswa memperoleh persentase 95% memperoleh kategori sangat baik. Nilai rata-rata hasil tes literasi numerasi siswa sebelum menggunakan Si Gesit mencapai 55,62. Setelah menggunakan Si Gesit rata-rata nilai yang diperoleh siswa adalah 75. Terjadi peningkatan sebesar 19,38. Rapor pendidikan tahun 2022 menunjukkan peningkatan yang signifikan. Keterampilan literasi berada pada kategori baik yaitu mencapai 71,43% artinya siswa telah mencapai kompetensi minimal. Capaian literasi ini akan meningkat sebesar 114,31% pada tahun 2022. Sedangkan kemampuan numerasi sudah berada pada kategori sedang yaitu 50% artinya 40% - 70% siswa sudah mencapai kompetensi minimal.

Abstract

Pendidikan berperan krusial dalam meningkatkan kualitas hidup manusia, memungkinkan individu untuk memahami potensi mereka dan berkontribusi pada masyarakat. Namun, kualitas pendidikan di Indonesia masih kalah dibandingkan dengan Malaysia. Kemajuan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi mempengaruhi sektor pendidikan secara signifikan, menuntut guru untuk beradaptasi dengan menciptakan pengalaman belajar yang efektif dan menarik. Abad ke-21 menuntut guru untuk mengubah fokus dari berpikir kreatif menjadi berpikir kritis dan pemecahan masalah, keterampilan yang penting untuk analisis, evaluasi, dan pengambilan keputusan. Dalam era globalisasi, siswa memerlukan keterampilan berpikir kritis untuk berkomunikasi dan merespons informasi dengan efektif. Pengembangan karakter, kesadaran lingkungan, dan tanggung jawab lingkungan juga menjadi aspek penting dalam pendidikan. Guru harus merancang strategi dan media yang efektif untuk mendukung perkembangan pribadi siswa, serta menyesuaikan metode pengajaran dengan kesadaran lingkungan yang meningkat. Penelitian ini mengeksplorasi penggunaan Pop Up Book berbantuan aplikasi Canva untuk membuat buku tiga dimensi yang dapat dicetak dan diakses melalui HP Android. Buku ini memiliki ketebalan 33 cm dan 26 cm, dicetak di latar belakang putih dan hitam, serta disajikan dalam format video dengan kode batang untuk pemindaian. Evaluasi media dilakukan melalui pretest, umpan balik guru, dan posttest. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa 33% siswa menilai buku tersebut valid, 16% menilai baik, 16% cukup, dan 7% tidak valid. Data menunjukkan bahwa kualitas dan validitas media dipengaruhi oleh persepsi siswa, dengan nilai alpha Cronbach sebesar 0,7 yang mengindikasikan reliabilitas data.
