Abstract

Carrot is one of the vegetables that people like because it has many health benefits related to the content of B vitamins, vitamin C, and other substances, thereby increasing the need or demand, but not in line with the increase in the production of this plant. One of the efforts to increase production is through area expansion, and the lowlands are the target of its development. This study aims to determine the growth and yield of carrots grown in the lowlands by applying rice straw mulch. This research was conducted in a rice field area, in Bagek Polak Village, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara with an altitude of 26 m above sea level in July-October 2020. The field experiment with the experimental method was designed according to a Randomized Block Design with one factor, namely the thickness of rice straw mulch. (m0 = no straw mulch; m1 = 1 layer mulch thickness; m2 = 2 layers mulch thickness; m3 = 3 layers mulch thickness; m4 = 4 layers mulch thickness) was repeated four times so that there were 20 experimental units. The results showed that rice straw mulch had a significant effect on the growth and yield of carrots in the lowlands. The use of 4 layers of rice straw mulch was could increase the growth and yield of carrots by 2647.75 gr/m2 or the equivalent of 21,182 tons/ha. layer; expansion; production; vegetables; tubers

Abstract

The use of high doses of chemical fertilizers in the production of chili (Capsicum annuum L.) has an adverse impact on the environment, especially in dryland. This study aimed to examine the role of cow manure (PKS), goat manure (PKK), chicken manure (PKA), or a combination of two manures in reducing 25% of the requirement for chemical fertilizer on chili plants. One experiment was carried out in the dryland of Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency, from May to October 2021. Phonska NPK (15-15-15) chemical fertilizer (PK) at a 1,200 kg/ha dose was used as a control. The treatments tested were 75% PK+PKS, 75% PK+PKK, 75% PK+PKA, 75% PK+PKS+PKK, 75% PK+PKS+PKA and 75% PK+PKK+PKA. The dose of manure used in each treatment was 20 tons/ha. All treatments were repeated three times and arranged in a randomized block design. The results showed that the treatment of manure, especially goat manure and chicken manure, increased the available phosphate (P) in the soil. The growth and yield of chili plants were not significantly different in all treatments, which means that manure could replace the role of 25% of the chemical fertilizer used. These results indicate that manure in the long term can reduce the need for chemical fertilizers to produce chili in dryland. Key words: chili; dryland; manure; chemical fertilizer; nutrition

Abstract

Jatropha plants in the Amor-Amor area, North Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara have long been growing and developing as land boundaries, yards, and village roads, but are not used as alternative energy sources, then they do not provide results or income. This is due to limited ability to apply technology for create more profitable. On the other side, utilization of irrigation facilities that have been provided in the form of bore-wells is very rarely used in connection with expensive operational costs, especially on fuel components. Extension activities and demonstrations in the provision of multi-entry Jatropha seedlings with the aim of increasing the knowledge of farmer group members for better implementation Jatropha cultivation technology. The results show that the counseling and demonstration provided was quite capable of arousing interest and the need for farmers to adopt introduced technology. Members of the Telaga Valley Farmers Group were at the trying stage and if assistance is continued, farmers will reach the adoption phase, therefore it takes a long time for technology transformation to form an Energy Independent Village

Abstract

JJatropha curcas L. in the Amor-Amor, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara have been grown and developed long ago. It was just as fences of land, yards, and roads, and used as a source of traditional medicine but not as alternative energy sources and as a crop yield. Even if Jatropha seed oil can be used as an energy source family. No commercialize and intensively cultivation, such as the use of high yielding varieties, planting distance, fertilizing and other maintenance, and intercropping with food crops. Another problem faced by farmer groups members is difficult to get fertilizers, proper cultivation techniques, the difficulty of obtaining diesel fuel to operate the water bore-pumps for irrigation purposes. Through science and technology communication activities (Ipteks) was expected to formed the Energy Independent Village. This Ipteks such as counselling, training, and demonstrations conducted by the research team has been able to provide rationalization and true understanding to the farmer groups on aspects of Jatropha as an alternative source of fuel.  Understanding includes benefits of crop as a source of fuel, good cultivation techniques, the potential economic and environmental impact, plant waste management and Jatropha seed oil processing and other benefits plant. Counselling and training undertaken has been able to generate interest and need for farmers to adopt the technology introduced. In addition, education and training was provided to farmers has also empowered them, by involving farmer participatory on any activities performed. Farmer’s empowerment has successes. It was at the phase awareness, interest, and evaluation of the adoption process.

Abstract

One important issue of agricultural development in the dry land area of North Lombok Regency is how to increase the Planting Index (IP) supported by the availability of sufficient water, especially for the development of horticultural commodities. The increase in the Planting Index is expected to lead to an increase in community welfare, specifically an increase in farmers' incomes. The development of horticulture is intended to provide added value to farmers' income by applying environmentally friendly Good Agricultural Practices with production management in accordance with the conditions of natural resources. One area of dry land that has sufficient potential for horticultural development in North Lombok Regency is Kayangan Village. Problems faced by dry land farmers include the level of knowledge and skills of farmers, especially in the management of horticultural commodities and the relatively low level of farmer participation. To overcome these problems, innovation technology transfer is needed through the development of environmentally friendly horticultural crops by regulating cropping systems and improving cultivation technology to increase farmers' incomes. Counseling and training, as well as demonstration plots for improved cultivation technology and regulation of horticultural cropping patterns were carried out during May-November 2019. Community service activities were considered quite successful in terms of the enthusiasm and perseverance of participants in participating in counseling and training, as well as demonstration plots (tomato plants, chili peppers, melons, intercropped tomatoes and pachoi). The results of the demonstration plot showed a significant increase both in crop productivity and increased income per unit area of arable land. On going assistance from all parties, especially the local government, is expected to sustainably develop horticultural commodities in order to increase the income of dry land farmers

Abstract

The main obstacle faced in the development of seasonal crops on dryland is the availability of water and low soil fertility. As a result, the cropping index (IP) of dryland is very low because crops are grown in the rainy season only. The use of inorganic fertilizers is also very high in order to obtain adequate crop yields. Such practices can result in a reduction in the organic carbon content in the soil in the long term. Soil fertility can be maintained if the soil contains a lot of organic carbon. Organic carbon in the soil can increase soil fertility by preventing nutrient loss, increasing soil physical stability, increasing the soil's ability to retain water and increasing the consortium of microorganisms. An introduction of sustainable agriculture technology was carried out to provide understanding to farmers in the dryland of Gumantar Village, North Lombok Regency (KLU) about the importance of sustainable agriculture in order to maintain soil fertility and land productivity. The activity was carried out by making a demonstration plot of aerobic composting of mungbean waste and then followed by an in-situ test of the benefits of compost for chili plants. As a comparison, plots were made for planting chili plants without compost treatment. Aerobic composting was done by using BeKa decomposer (PT. Indo Acidatama Tbk). Several formal and informal meetings were held with farmers to increase their understanding of sustainable agriculture. The results of the activities indicated that the target farmers did not understand at all about sustainable agriculture. The good news was that the farmers passionate about understanding the benefits of sustainable agriculture. At the end, the participants understanding and beliefs about sustainable agriculture improved after seeing the yields of chili plants in the compost treatment which were much higher than those without compost treatment.

Abstract

Planting diversification with horticultural crops in the dry land area of North Lombok Regency is an effort to increase the planting index (IP) which is supported by appropriate cultivation technology and sufficient water availability to support plant growth. It was hoped that the increase in the cropping index in dry land areas will trigger an increase in community welfare, particularly an increase in farmers' income. Horticultural development is intended to provide added value to increasing farmers' income. Gumantar Village, Kayangan District, North Lombok Regency is one of the areas that has dry land which is quite potential for horticultural development. The problems faced by farmers in these areas include the low level of knowledge and skills of farmers, especially in the management of horticultural commodities. So far, farming activities were still traditional and the level of farmer participation was still relatively low. To overcome these problems, it was necessary to transfer innovation technology through the development of environmentally friendly horticultural crops with the application of Good Agricultural Practices and production management in accordance with natural resource conditions. Counseling and training as well as demonstration plots using the Participatory Action Research method related to horticultural cultivation technology have been carried out in Amor-Amor hamlet, Gumantar village in July-December 2019. This community service activity is considered quite successful as seen from the enthusiasm and persistence of the participants in attended counseling, training, and demonstration plots (cultivation of tomatoes and golden melons). The results of the demonstration plot showed a significant increase both in the aspect of crop productivity and increased income per unit area of arable land. Continuous assistance from all parties, especially the local government was highly expected for the sustainability of horticultural commodity development efforts in order to increase the income of dry land farmers

Abstract

Agricultural land in the Gumantar Village area is dry land with relatively low productivity and diversification of food production, which then causes low income and food availability for farming families, so that it could have an impact on unbalanced food consumption and nutrition for family members and could also threaten household food security. However, on the other hand, the average farmer household has a fairly large yard, but it has not been used optimally. Therefore, counseling was carried out to the community which aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of farmers on the understanding of balanced nutrition and at the same time use the yard around the house in realizing food independence and fulfilling the nutritional needs of the family. The extension activity was carried out in June 2021. This extension activity was considered successful, seen from the enthusiasm and perseverance of the participants in participating in the extension activity and then hoping for follow-up in the practice of using the yard. The farming community of Gumantar Village has high enthusiasm for the realization of the use of the yard as a source of nutritious food.
