Abstract

The usage of Azolla Microphylla as fish feed provides several advantages for fish farmers such as; the low-cost, the easy-to-obtain, and the taste that is favoured by some freshwaterfish especially catfish (Clarias Batrachus). Azolla Microphylla is known as one ofPterideophyte aquatic plants that can be utilized as fish feed for catfish because of its highnutritional values, including N, P, Si, Ca, Fe, Mg, and some others. This study aims to analyzethe effectiveness of feeding Azolla Microphylla on catfish length and weight growth by anexperimental method. A completely randomized design was conducted with 5 treatments and 4repeatabilities using 20 fish farms containing a cluster of catfish with an average size of 5 cm,that regularly fed with Azolla Microphylla. The observation was conducted every 10 daysduring the treatment, with a total number of observations held 4 times in the 40-daystreatment. The result indicated that the treatment in P2, with a 60-gram dosage of AzollaMicrophylla feeding, gives the optimal growth on catfish length and weight compared to othertreatments. Best scores in P2 treatment is found in the fourth observation, where the catfishlength reaches around 28 cm, and the weight reached 100 gram. Based on the single factorANOVA test, the real difference values for each group and treatment which analysed at asignificance level of 0,05, namely FvaluesFtable, indicates a significant effect of AzollaMicrophylla on the catfish growth. The Tukey’s Honest Significant Difference test also showsa significant effect of the Azolla Microphylla feeding on the catfish length and weight growth. Therefore, feeding catfish with 60-gram of Azolla Microphylla creates an effective treatmentto gain catfish length and weight. Keywords: Azolla Microphylla, Feeding, Fish Feed, Catfish Growth

Abstract

This study aims to see the effect of coaching, supervision and actions given by Banda Aceh junior high school canteen managers on the hygiene and sanitation of the school canteen. A canteen with a low hygiene standard in its physical condition, its raw material for food, food processing and food presentation, can give negative impacts on a child’s health, growth, cognitive development, and nutritional status, which will eventually affect their academic achievement. This research, conducted from 2 to 5th of August 2017, is an analytical survey research with a cross-sectional design. Based on the results of statistical tests using chi-square technique, a positive and significant correlation was found between the canteen manager’s coaching and the canteen’s hygiene and sanitation (p-value = 0.001 0.05), particularly between the supervision, hygiene and sanitation variables (p-value = 0.001 0.05). There is also a strong and significant relationship between the level of canteen maintenance and the canteen’s hygiene and sanitation (p-value = 0.002 0.05). The canteen staff are reported to have complied with the applicable regulations and applied the knowledge they have about the standard hygiene and sanitation. They reported that they regularly maintain personal hygiene when processing the food by washing their hands and keep their work equipment clean. Besides, they maintain the cleanliness of the canteens by throwing waste into the dumping area when the bin is full, and by keeping food and kitchen wares clean. Keywords: Hygiene, Sanitation, Canteen

Abstract

The incidence of Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is still high and is a public health problem in Indonesia. One of the efforts to eradicate it is to control the vector, namely the Aedesaegypti mosquito. Eradicating adult mosquitoes through fogging using an insecticide with the active ingredient malathion and sprinkling Abate powder for a long period of time continuously can actually result in non-target animal deaths, loss or death of natural enemies, environmental damage in the form of ecosystem imbalance and Aides population resistance. Utilization of natural materials as an alternative effort that is environmentally friendly and not harmful to other organisms needs to be done. Previous research found that shallot skin (Allium cepa L) contains flavonoid compounds which can be larvicidal, alkaloids, polyphenols, sesquiterpenoids, monoterpenoids, steroids, triterpenoids, acetogenins and quinones. In this study researchers used shallots. This type of research was experimental, which was conducted at the MIPA laboratory at Serambi Mekkah University, the shallots were taken from onion farmers in South Aceh District. The results showed that leeks were extracted using ethanol solvent through FTIR analysis with visible wave absorption indicating the presence of functional groups OH, CH alkanes, C=C cycloalkanes, and CO indicating the presence of flavonoid compounds. GCMS analysis revealed that the shallots from Aceh contain Hexadecanoic acid methyl ester, Octadecadienoic acid and Octadecatrienoic acid.
