Abstract

The language characteristics of the mass media have always been a reference for the actuality of the news and the awesomeness of the events covered by journalists. The characteristics of the language sometimes refer to the events being covered, but not a few of the language's rhetoric goes beyond the events reported. Therefore, the characteristics of the language and the rhetorical style become the representation of journalists in reporting an event. In journalistic studies, representation is interpreted as one of the journalists' strategies to present events in a news text. So, in this study, three very relevant issues are raised: (1) how is vocabulary represented, (2) how is grammatical representation, and (3) how is local coherence represented in newspaper news texts. This study aims to explain the meaning and mode contained in local vocabulary, grammar, and coherence. Based on the problems and objectives, the method used in this research is the phenomenological method. The phenomenological method is used to find out the events behind phenomena or texts written by journalists. Analysis of the data in this study uses descriptive discourse analysis and critical discourse analysis. The data sources for this research are the printed mass media of Kompas, Jawa Pos (regional), and Surya (regional) newspapers which are taken randomly from May to October 2021. The collection techniques include focused observation, theoretical and logical triangulation, as well as rolling/snowball patterns. The researcher is the key instrument in this study and uses four companion instruments: data codification, descriptive analysis guide, explanatory analysis guide, and data corpus table. The research data analysis model is an adaptation of the flow analysis model and the type of interactive analysis, including the reduction, assessment, and inference (verification) stages of withdrawal. The findings in this research are (1) Vocabulary representation, including associations and metaphors. Associations are used by journalists to create an atmosphere in news texts so that they can be precarious, soft, serious, and tasteless. Metaphors are used by journalists to show journalists' attitudes and judgments towards an object in the text; (2) Grammatical representation, including (a) the form of the process: action process, event process, state process, and mental process; (b) participants include: participants as perpetrators, participants as victims, and participants as nominal; and (c) Representation of a combination of clauses or local coherence, including elaboration, additional extension, contrast extension, choice extension, and augmentation extension. In conclusion, in the newspaper news text, there are vocabulary representations in the form of associations and metaphors, grammatical representation in the form of process and readiness, and local coherence in the form of elaboration, expansion, an extension of contrast, an extension of choice, and extension of heightening.

Abstract

Retorika menampilkan kebenaran dengan menata tutur secara efektif dan etis dengan kemampuan menggunakan bahasa yang indah dan mempesona bagi orang lain. Dalam kegiatan berkomunikasi, estetika linguistik fungsional Aliran Praha muncul peranannya, seperti dalam bahasa iklan Ramadhan 2022. Analisis ini penting dilakukan karena bertujuan untuk menyibak keindahan bahasa iklan sebagai bahasa pemasaran produk telebih pada iklan Ramadan 2022. Penelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan estetika fungsional pada tingkatan fonologi, sintaksis, dan semantik. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif karena proses analisis mendapatkan data deskriptif. Sumber data penelitian ini adalah iklan online Ramadan 2022 dengan menggunakan teknis analisis data transkrip dari bahasa lisan ke dalam bahasa tulis. Sumber data penelitian ini diambil dari tayangan iklan bulan Ramadan 2022, sedangkan data penelitian tentang estetika fungsional disajikan pada tingkatan fonologis, sintaksis, dan semantik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, estetika fungsional bahasa tingkatan fonologis yang menjadi fungsi keseluruhan dapat dilihat dari asonansi dan aliterasi. Pada tataran sintaksis fungsional-estetik terdapat paralelisme struktural yang dibentuk oleh fungsi sintaksis, kategori sintaksis, peran sintaksis dan didukung oleh gaya bahasa yang terdiri dari klimaks, antitesis dan repetisi. Pada tingkatan semantik, kesejajaran makna (makna paralel; elemen segmental penghasil makna merupakan pelengkap dari fungsi pemuasan makna yang semakin kuat) dengan fungsi preposisi. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini, fungsi estetik mulai dari kesedapan bunyi, bentuk, dan makna akan diulas secara lengkap. Hasil penelitian ini dapat dijadikan acuan untuk memperkuat aspek retorika estetika iklan dalam bidang fonologi, sintaksis, dan semantik.

Abstract

In this era, technological developments increasingly show complex influences on cultural discourse due to the tremendous speed of information production. Language as a product of culture is essential as a reflective tool for every social practice. Using abbreviations on social media, Twitter shows a tendency for language acceleration. This study aims to explore some of the emergences of abbreviation forms and patterns on Twitter social media, then explore the function of meaning generated through a dromological perspective. The research method used is descriptive qualitative. Data was collected through note-taking techniques in Twitter messages from 1 – 14 March 2023 in the Malang City region. The findings of abbreviations in social media Twitter consist of 28 alphabetisms, 17 acronyms, and 18 clippings. Through a dromological perspective, it was found that the communication model through abbreviation experiences hyper-reality, shallow meaning, banality, wear and tear, and identity fragmentation. The number of uses of abbreviated words on social media cannot be a benchmark as a new lexeme in KBBI, and it is recommended that a comprehensive critical verification will become a counter-model to this kind of speed logic.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the comments on Instagram posts made by the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) through forensic linguistic analysis employing lexical semantics, speech act theory by Searle (1979), and the violation of politeness maxims according to Leech (2014). The research also focuses on identifying legal violations within these comments. The research methodology utilized is qualitative, employing a case study approach. Data collection was conducted through documentation by capturing all comments posted on the DPR RI's Instagram post on July 20, 2023, via screenshots. Data analysis was carried out qualitatively, primarily employing content analysis. Analytical steps included data organization, lexical-semantic analysis, identification and classification of speech acts and violations of politeness maxims, interpretation, and legal violation tracking. The research data comprised five hate comments on the DPR RI's Instagram post concerning the passing away news of its members on July 20, 2023. The analysis revealed that these comments contained negative and derogatory by using language that tarnished reputations and made unsubstantiated accusations. Some comments also violated politeness maxims, particularly the maxims of sympathy and praise. These actions potentially violate Article 310 (2) of the Indonesian Penal Code (KUHP) regarding defamation, Article 315 of the KUHP regarding minor insults, and Article 27 (3) of the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE) regarding defamation through electronic media.
