Abstract

This study analyzes CNN’s framing of the European Union (EU) energy crisis (2022–2025), shaped by the REPowerEU initiative and Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It fills a gap in international media studies by examining how global news outlets construct hegemonic narratives around energy geopolitics. Using Robert N. Entman’s four-element framing model and Savaş Çoban’s (2018) seven dimensions of media hegemony, the study employs a qualitative interpretivist approach to 30 CNN articles. The findings reveal a consistent framing that attributes the crisis to Russian aggression, portrays the EU as morally resilient, and advances technocratic, market-oriented remedies aligned with neoliberal orthodoxy, while marginalizing oppositional voices, social inequalities, and non-Western perspectives. Theoretically, the research contributes by bridging framing analysis with a critical perspective on media hegemony. Practically, it demonstrates how mainstream media legitimizes specific policy paths while constraining alternatives, thereby reinforcing Western geopolitical dominance. These insights highlight the political power of media framing in shaping global understandings of crisis and governance.

Abstract

Background: West Java is the province with the highest number of productive age population in Indonesia. The productivity of this age group is significantly influenced by health and education factors, with health teaching materials serving as educational tools. Among the challenges that hinder the productivity of active adults, chronic disease poses a significant threat. Purpose: This study aimed to describe the cholesterol, blood sugar, and uric acid examinations in active adults, including the need for health teaching materials. Method: The sampling method used was purposive sampling, with inclusion criteria being active adults aged 18 to 60 years, who work or study at an educational institution in Bandung Regency. Meanwhile, adults with mental illness were excluded, resulting in a sample size of 70 participants. The method for checking cholesterol, blood sugar, and uric acid used a Glucose Cholesterol Uric acid (GCU) meter. Results: The results showed that 12 adults had high cholesterol levels, while 6 had elevated blood sugar and uric acid levels. In the young age group (aged 18-44 years), 2 adults experienced hypercholesterolemia. The most sought-after teaching material for chronic disease was preventing sugar intake in soft drinks and the benefits of enhancing a healthy lifestyle through education. Furthermore, establishing prevention programs in educational institutions is an essential requirement to prevent the development of chronic and safeguard the productivity of active adults. Conclusions: Based on the results, it was recommended that productive and active adults receive training in chronic disease awareness and facilitate regular general check-ups (GCUs). This proactive approach was expected to contribute to the development and health security of the country.

Abstract

ABSTRAK Pantai Kejawanan berlokasi di Pelabuhan Perikanan Nusantara Kejawanan (PPN Kejawanan) di Kelurahan Pegambiran, Lemahwungkuk, Kabupaten Cirebon, Jawa Barat. Pantai Kejawanan dipercaya sebagai tempat terapi penyembuhan berbagai penyakit. Hasil riset tim menunjukkan bahwa pasir dan air laut Pantai Kejawanan memiliki kandungan besi (Fe) terutama Fe₃O₄ serta unsur logam lain yang juga ditemukan di beberapa pantai lain yang sering digunakan untuk terapi. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat (PKM) dilakukan menggunakan metode ceramah dan diskusi untuk mendiseminasikan hasil riset khasiat terapi pasir pantai Kejawanan pada bulan Desember 2023. Sasaran kegiatan adalah pengelola PPN Kejawanan, Dinas Pariwisata Kota Cirebon, ketua RT, RW dan Kelurahan setempat. Hasil dari kegiatan PKM ini adalah penyampaian kajian ilmiah kandungan pasir Pantai Kejawanan untuk keperluan terapi dan rekomendasi untuk pengembangan kegiatan wisata terapi yang aman dan berkelanjutan. Para peserta kegiatan diseminasi menyambut baik hasil riset yang telah dilakukan dan juga memberikan umpan balik terkait hasil riset yang diperoleh. Tindak lanjut rekomendasi kegiatan diseminasi ini menjadi wewenang pihak PPN Kejawanan untuk pengembangan wisata terapi yang aman dan berkelanjutan di pantai Kejawanan. Kata Kunci: Terapi Pasir, Mineral, Besi  ABSTRACT Kejawanan Beach is located at the Kejawanan Nusantara Fisheries Port (PPN Kejawanan) in Pegambiran Village, Lemahwungkuk, Cirebon Regency, West Java. Kejawanan Beach is believed to be a place of therapy to cure various diseases. The team's research results showed that the sand and sea water of Kejawanan Beach contain iron (Fe), especially Fe₃O₄ and other metal elements which is also found on several other beaches which are often used for therapy. Community service activities (PKM) were carried out using lecture and discussion methods to disseminate the results of research on the therapeutic properties of Kejawanan beach sand in December 2023. The targets of the activities were PPN Kejawanan managers, the Cirebon City Tourism Office, heads of RT, RW and local sub-districts. The result of this PKM activity was the delivery of a scientific study of the sand content of Kejawanan Beach for therapeutic purposes and recommendations for the development of safe and sustainable therapeutic tourism activities. The participants in the dissemination activity welcomed the results of the research that had been carried out and also provided feedback regarding the research results obtained. The follow-up to recommendations for this dissemination activity is the authority of PPN Kejawanan for the development of safe and sustainable therapeutic tourism on Kejawanan Beach. Keywords: Sand Therapy, Mineral, Iron

Abstract

During the COVID-19 pandemic, APEC member countries faced major challenges in achieving infrastructure development goals due to the COVID-19 pandemic impacting various aspects of people's lives and the economy, thus they looked for a way out. This article will use the theories of International Cooperation, International Development, and Dependencies. Issues will be discussed through qualitative research methods and analysis of secondary data sources. In overcoming this issue, APEC carried out the continuation of the plan of APEC Putrajaya Vision 2040, Experience Exchange, and the Belt Road Initiative. The cooperation that was carried out resulted in assistance in facilitating economic cooperation and regional integration. Even so, the cooperation that was actually carried out was planned even before the COVID-19 pandemic and was only carried out more actively to overcome the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic that was present. Abstract

West Java’s rich cultural heritage presents immense potential for the province’s advancement. The active paradiplomacy that West Java fosters with various international provinces significantly amplifies the potential utilization of its cultural assets. West Java stands out as one of Indonesia’s provinces with high and effective paradiplomacy activities. In conjunction with West Java’s ongoing paradiplomatic processes, the angklung emerges as an instrument embodying the value of unity and harmony. Sichuan and Chungcheongnam-do served as key respondents for observing the implementation of the angklung as an instrument in West Java’s paradiplomacy. The strong relationship between West Java and its two sister provinces has led to the renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding and the effective continuation of collaborative programs within their active cooperation periods. The utilization of the angklung, originating from West Java, offers insights into how soft power operates within the paradiplomacy. The direct link between paradiplomacy and soft power made this research particularly compelling. Drawing from the participant observation method conducted by the researchers as part of West Java’s efforts, this study focuses on the correlation between the angklung and the values championed in West Java’s paradiplomacy with its two sister province partners.

Abstract

Villages have a strategic role as the smallest locus of development to support the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is focused on accelerating the achievement of SDGs by restoring the national economy. Therefore, in accelerating the achievement of sustainable development goals (SDGs), a practical role of sustainable business is needed for agricultural village communities. The method in this study is a qualitative method with an analytical descriptive approach, The data source is Library Research and other supporting literature, associated with phenomena that occur in the past, present and future. The results of this study are 1) The application of sustainable business model practices is one form of commitment of business people who are applied by having ethical governance and always contributing to economic development and not neglecting the quality of life of the workforce, local communities and surrounding communities 2) Obstacles in the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals in agricultural village communities include lack of effective land, lack of human resources, facilities, and government participation 3) Strategies in the role of agricultural village community development including Streamlining existing land, providing facilities and infrastructure, increasing human resources and optimal government participation

Abstract

Every human being in any part of the world needs continuous health, both in normal conditions and in pandemic conditions. Health is one of the human capital that is indispensable in supporting economic development. This is because health is a prerequisite for increased productivity. Along with the development of today's era, the development of digitalization has grown rapidly. This has an impact on the sustainable health business at this time. This study aims to describe various health business challenges and opportunities that will be faced in the era of industrial globalization. This research uses a qualitative approach with a literature study method, which collects various information answering the formulation of research problems through various sources such as books and journals. The results of this study show that Globalization and climate change can be a significant influence on an economy, as happened in Indonesia and other countries. Globalization can affect policies set in the country specifically in other fields. The health industry makes all healthcare industry providers compete with each other to compete for competitive advantage amid potential health markets

Abstract

Purpose — This research investigates emerging trends in community-based tourism (CBT) management in the People's Republic of China (PRC), aiming to foster sustainable tourism development. It comprehensively examines evolving strategies, challenges, and opportunities, considering community engagement, empowerment, and sustainable practices in China's distinct socio-cultural and economic context.Method — Employing a qualitative approach, this research draws on case studies and expert insights to provide a holistic view of current community-based tourism management in China. The analysis involves literature review, stakeholder interviews, and examination of successful CBT projects across diverse regions.Result — The paper reveals significant trends in PRC's community-based tourism management, including tech integration, personalized experiences, sustainable resource practices, and cultural preservation. These trends are explored via practical examples, showcasing their impact on communities and tourists.Contribution — This research enriches the understanding of evolving CBT management in China by spotlighting recent trends and their consequences. It offers insights into innovative strategies fostering tourism, cultural heritage preservation, and sustainability. The paper is a valuable resource for policymakers, practitioners, and researchers interested in sustainable tourism and community engagement in the PRC and beyond.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has necessitated a rapid and coordinated international response, particularly in the procurement of life-saving vaccines. As nations endeavor to protect their populations, health diplomacy emerges as a pivotal strategy. This study provides an in-depth analysis of Indonesia’s health diplomacy strategy in securing booster vaccines for COVID-19, a critical component in mitigating the impact of the pandemic. Employing a qualitative research method, this investigation synthesized data from comprehensive literature reviews and focus group discussions (FGDs) to construct a nuanced understanding of Indonesia’s approach. The findings illuminated the multifaceted nature of Indonesia’s health diplomacy, operating on bilateral, regional, and global stages. A notable outcome of these diplomatic efforts was the acquisition of 510,000,000 doses of the booster vaccines scheduled for distribution by the end of 2022. The research identified a supportive diplomatic ecosystem underpinned by the universal necessity for vaccine access, transcending national borders. This environment was characterized by a coalition of researchers advancing vaccine knowledge, complexities surrounding vaccine procurement, and the operationalization of international initiatives such as the COVAX Facility and the ASEAN COVID-19 Response Fund. The intricacies of Indonesia’s diplomatic engagements revealed the importance of collaborative frameworks in addressing global health crises. The study contributes to the discourse on health diplomacy by highlighting the mechanisms and outcomes of Indonesia’s vaccine procurement strategy, offering insights into the role of diplomacy in pandemic preparedness and response.

Abstract

The dynamics in the regional and global scope encourage countries to implement defense diplomacy to achieve national defense and security interests. Indonesia is one of the countries that has implemented defense diplomacy and cooperated with many partners spread across various countries. However, from 2019 to 2023, Indonesia's defense diplomacy and cooperation strengthened with one country, France. This research aims to find out the motives of Indonesia's defense diplomacy towards France in the 2019-2023 period. This research uses a qualitative method with the concept of defense diplomacy motives from Frega Wenas Inkiriwang. The research uses data from books, journal articles, news, reports, and documents from official websites. The research data collection technique was conducted through literature studies and interviews. The results show that the motives of Indonesia's defense diplomacy towards France focus on the motives of strategic engagement, confidence-building measures, capacity building, and international reputation to overcome problems, such as inadequate defense equipment, limited defense technology, unfulfilled MEF I and II targets, lack of human resources capable of mastering defense technology, and the interests of maintaining the integration of the Republic of Indonesia. This study found that Indonesia should keep developing diplomatic connections with France to strengthen the defense industry's capabilities and the competency of the Indonesian National Military personnel. Nevertheless, the Indonesian government must establish a monitoring mechanism for cooperation in procuring defense equipment and staff training. This guarantees the continuation of the cooperation agreement, which promotes Indonesia's defense capabilities and independence. Indonesia is not intended to become dependent on France due to the ongoing collaboration; instead, it is designed to assist in developing national defense.
