Abstract

This study examines the effect of customer experience on purchase decisions, with customer engagement as a mediating variable in digital e-commerce platforms. Increasing competition in the e-commerce sector has shifted managerial focus toward experiential and relational factors influencing consumer decision-making. A quantitative approach was employed using survey data collected from e-commerce users through purposive sampling. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS. The results show that customer experience has a significant positive effect on both customer engagement and purchase decisions. Customer engagement also significantly mediates the relationship, indicating that improved experiences enhance purchasing outcomes indirectly through stronger engagement. However, the moderating effect between the variables is not statistically significant. The model demonstrates satisfactory explanatory power, indicating its robustness in explaining consumer behavior in digital platforms. These findings emphasize the importance of designing effective experience-based strategies to strengthen engagement and drive purchasing outcomes. This study provides practical insights for e-commerce managers and contributes to the literature on digital marketing and consumer behavior.

Abstract

This study examines the relationships among Religiosity, Islamic Hospital Image, Motivation of Piety, and Behavioral Intention in Choosing Islamic Medical Tourism Destinations (IMTD) in Indonesia. The research aims to analyze both the direct and indirect effects of religiosity and Islamic hospital image on behavioral intention through the mediating role of motivation of piety within the context of Islamic medical tourism. A quantitative explanatory research design was employed using a cross-sectional survey approach. Data were collected from 220 Indonesian Muslim respondents who were familiar with Islamic healthcare services and medical tourism concepts. The data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. The findings reveal that Islamic Hospital Image has a positive and significant effect on Behavioral Intention (β = 1.308; p = 0.000), while Religiosity has a positive and significant effect on Motivation of Piety (β = 1.422; p = 0.000). The study contributes to the extension of the Theory of Planned Behavior (TPB) by integrating religiosity, Islamic hospital image, and motivation of piety into the context of Islamic medical tourism . The findings suggest that institutional healthcare perceptions play a more direct role in shaping behavioral intention, while religiosity operates indirectly through internal motivational mechanisms.

Abstract

Technology has become an integral part of work life, providing significant benefits for increasing productivity and competitiveness. However, the use of technology also carries risks, especially in the form of technostress, namely, the stress that arises from using technology. This study aimed to investigate the impact of technological complexity as a technostress trigger on work performance among employees in micro, small, and medium enterprises in Semarang, Indonesia, with emotional exhaustion as a potential mediator. The sample for this study consisted of 315 micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise workers in various sectors. Data were collected through surveys and analyzed using structural equation modeling and partial least squares. The research results show that technological complexity negatively affects emotional exhaustion, but does not significantly affect work performance. By contrast, emotional exhaustion negatively influenced work performance. However, there is insufficient evidence to support the mediation of emotional exhaustion between technological complexity and workplace performance. These findings emphasize the importance of considering additional factors beyond techno complexity in shaping work performance as well as the importance of organizational support in mitigating the negative impact of techno complexity on employee well-being and performance in micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises.

Abstract

Cultural exchange activities serve as an important means of enhancing cross-cultural understanding in the era of globalization. The cultural exchange program between students from Universitas Muhammadiyah Semarang (UNIMUS) in Indonesia and students from Rajamangala University of Technology in Thailand aims to strengthen understanding of cultural diversity, promote tolerance, and foster international communication among students. The activities were conducted through cultural seminars, group discussions, traditional art performances, educational visits, and direct social interactions between participants from both countries. The program was evaluated using a qualitative descriptive approach through observation, interviews, and documentation of activities. The results indicate that cultural exchange effectively enhances participants’ understanding of cultural values, social customs, languages, and communication patterns in Indonesian and Thai societies. Furthermore, this activity also fostered attitudes of tolerance, cooperation, and mutual respect among participants. The cultural exchange program proved effective in broadening students’ international perspectives while strengthening academic ties between universities. It is hoped that this activity can be further developed as a means of strengthening multicultural education within the university environment.

Abstract

Objective – This study examines how religiosity influences Muslim tourists’ intention to choose Islamic medical tourism destinations (IMTD) in Indonesia by investigating the mediating roles of attitude and motivation of piety.Methodology – A quantitative research design was employed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0. Data were collected from 200 Muslim tourists who were aware of the IMTD. Four constructs—religiosity, attitude, behavioral intention, and motivation of piety—were measured, and the proposed direct and indirect relationships were tested using the bootstrapping procedure at a 5% significance level.Findings – The results reveal that religiosity has a significant positive effect on both attitudes and behavioral intentions. Religiosity also enhances the motivation for piety directly and indirectly through behavioral intention. However, attitude is negatively associated with motivation of piety, suggesting the presence of cognitive–spiritual dissonance in tourists’ decision making. Furthermore, behavioral intention serves as a stronger mediating mechanism than attitude in explaining the influence of religiosity on the motivation of piety.Implications – The findings suggest that IMTD managers and policymakers should prioritize strategies that strengthen Muslim tourists’ behavioral intentions by integrating religious values into destination branding, service design, and promotional activities, rather than relying solely on favorable attitudes.Originality – This study extends the Islamic medical tourism literature by demonstrating that religiosity shapes tourists’ motivation for piety through distinct psychological pathways. It further identifies behavioral intention as a more influential mediating mechanism than attitude, offering new insights into Muslim tourists’ destination-choice behavior.

Abstract

This paper explores the contributions of classical Islamic philosophy of science to the modern interdisciplinary research landscape. The study focuses on how key philosophical principles such as the concept of ‘ilm al-tawḥīdī (unity of knowledge) and the integration of ethics and spirituality can enhance contemporary research methodologies. Islamic philosophy advocates for a holistic approach that bridges the gap between empirical science and metaphysical insights, promoting a unified view of knowledge that incorporates not only rational and empirical elements but also ethical and spiritual dimensions. The paper discusses how Islamic ethical frameworks, such as Adab al-‘ilm (ethics of knowledge), can influence modern research by emphasizing responsibility, integrity, and the interconnectedness of all forms of knowledge. Additionally, the study highlights the potential for integrating Islamic epistemology into interdisciplinary research, fostering more inclusive, responsible, and ethically grounded scientific practices. The integration of both Islamic and secular research models is proposed as a way to create a more robust and sustainable research framework that values both scientific rigor and ethical responsibility. The paper also addresses the challenges of reconciling Islamic principles with secular academic frameworks, suggesting future research avenues to develop systematic methodologies that integrate Islamic ethical and epistemological values with modern scientific practices. In conclusion, the paper emphasizes the importance of incorporating both spiritual and empirical insights in modern research to address complex global challenges in a more comprehensive and ethically grounded manner.

Abstract

The rapid growth of digital marketing has intensified psychological responses such as Fear of Missing Out (FOMO) and customer engagement, particularly among consumers who actively interact with brands through digital platforms. This phenomenon is increasingly relevant in Indonesia, where global footwear brands such as Nike extensively utilize digital marketing strategies. Grounded in the Stimulus-Organism-Response (S-O-R) framework, this study examines the influence of digital marketing on FOMO, customer engagement, and electronic word of mouth (e-WOM) among Nike consumers in Indonesia. A quantitative approach was employed through a survey involving 200 respondents who had purchased Nike products and were exposed to Nike digital marketing content. Data were analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4. The results reveal that digital marketing has a positive and significant effect on FOMO, customer engagement, and e-WOM. Customer engagement also positively and significantly influences e-WOM and mediates the relationship between digital marketing and e-WOM. In contrast, FOMO does not significantly affect e-WOM and fails to mediate the relationship between digital marketing and e-WOM. These findings indicate that customer engagement plays a more important role than FOMO in encouraging consumers to share experiences and recommendations online. The study extends the application of the S-O-R framework by demonstrating that engagement represents a stronger mechanism than psychological urgency in generating e-WOM behavior for high-involvement products. The findings also provide practical implications for engagement-oriented digital marketing strategies.

Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play an important role in strengthening the local economy, particularly in rural areas. However, many MSME actors still face limitations in digital marketing capabilities and the utilization of e-commerce platforms. In Wates Village, potato chip MSMEs primarily relied on conventional marketing methods and had not yet adopted digital-based marketing strategies. This community service activity aimed to improve MSME competitiveness through education and mentoring in the use of e-commerce platforms for product marketing. The program employed a participatory training and mentoring approach consisting of socialization, hands-on training, online store creation, product catalog management, product photography, and digital promotion strategies. The activity involved 10 MSME participants, all of whom successfully created and managed online stores on e-commerce platforms. The evaluation results showed a significant increase in participants’ understanding of digital marketing and e-commerce, with the average score increasing from 45 in the pre-test to 82.5 in the post-test, representing an improvement of 83.3%. In addition, participants demonstrated the ability to upload products, create product descriptions, and apply simple digital promotion techniques independently. The program also contributed to increasing product visibility and expanding market access through digital platforms, thereby strengthening the competitiveness of MSMEs in the digital economy era.
