Abstract

This research uses the Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) method to identify knowledge trends in beliefs about the nature of mathematics, learning, and learning mathematics and identify new development opportunities for further research. The Systematic Mapping Study (SMS) method is the initial stage for selecting primary sources in a literature study. The Scopus database was used for SMS, then 171 articles were found ready for further analysis. The results show that mathematical belief has become a current research trend. The keywords are "beliefs." The new trending keyword is "pre-service teachers." The thematic map shows thirteen clusters, where the motivation, pre-service mathematics teachers, mathematics education, beliefs, and attitudes clusters are the motor themes currently a global challenge. This means there are still great opportunities to research this theme to complete the knowledge puzzle. In closing, 41 articles are primary articles related to this theme. Three of them, namely articles from Stipek et al. (2001), Beswick (2012), and Felbrich et al. (2012), can be seen as primary references.

Abstract

Self-regulated learning is a crucial aspect of the learning process for students. This ability is often overlooked due to the challenges of inaccurate measurement. This study aims to evaluate the quality of a self-regulated learning scale developed through an analysis of respondent responses. The research employed a descriptive quantitative approach using the Rasch Model as the analytical method. The instrument used consisted of 30 statement items. The study sample included 59 mathematics education students selected through cluster random sampling from two universities in different districts. The analysis results indicated that, after three calibration processes, the self-regulated learning scale was refined to 28 items with excellent quality. Furthermore, the responses of 58 students demonstrated a high level of consistency. Thus, self-regulated learning scale has good validity and reliability, making it a dependable tool for measuring self-regulated learning abilities. The implications of this study include the provision of a practical and reliable instrument for researchers and educators to support further studies and serve as an evaluation tool in learning development.

Abstract

An intuitionistic fuzzy set (IFS) can be helpful in decision-making as a concept to describe uncertainty. This study proposes the application of IFS in determining research topics for students of the mathematics education study program using the normalized Euclidean distance method. This study also shows the differences in the analysis results using the max-min composition method revised by De et al. (2001) with the normalized Hamming distance method and the normalized Euclidean distance method. The results show that the normalized Euclidean distance method can determine student research topics more accurately than other methods because they are careful in looking at distance differences. The normalized Euclidean distance method provides the best distance measure with a high confidence level in terms of accuracy.

Abstract

This study investigates in-service teachers’ beliefs and perspectives towards teaching, and in specific concerning their participation in the TPE. This research seeks to understand teachers’ beliefs and values in teaching and learning, their needs regarding professional development, their perspectives on the TPE, and how their needs are accommodated in the TPE. This quantitative study involved in-service teachers (n=34) partaking in the TPE and the data collection using a closed-question questionnaire as the research instrument. This study uses descriptive statistics of Relative Important Indices (RII) as data analysis, which is a statistical tool to determine the factors that give weight to the respondents' perceptions by their level of importance. The findings of this study provide insights into teachers’ beliefs toward teaching and their professional practice, which lead to an understanding of their needs for professional education and acknowledging their views of the level of facilitation of their needs in the TPE. The findings highlight teachers’ beliefs in collaboration that are in line with their positive perspective of TPE, which has facilitated collaboration during the programme. The data also shows that 79% of respondents agree that assessment and classroom management should be a priority in the teacher education programme, which is aligned with their views that designing assessment was well facilitated during the subject-specific pedagogy workshop during the TPE. As a high-stakes programme held by the government to improve teachers’ quality in Indonesia, based on the findings it is recommended that TPE be revisited from the teacher’s perspective as the primary stakeholder, such as classroom management training.

Abstract

Mathematical reasoning and literacy abilities are abilities every person must have today to keep up with current developments. These two abilities are honed through learning mathematics at school. In learning, appropriate media is needed. This research aims to develop mathematical reasoning and literacy skills through student worksheets. Research and Development research uses the ADDIE (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation) development model. The data collection technique in this research uses tests. Data analysis techniques use the multivariate normality test, covariance matrix homogeneity test, Hotelling  test, and post-Hotelling  test. Before use, student worksheets are validated by media experts and material experts. The results were  for media experts, and  for material experts, so the student worksheet was suitable for use. Student responses regarding using student worksheets in the experimental class showed , which means the student worksheets are practical. The final data analysis (posttest) shows that the average mathematical reasoning and literacy abilities in classes that use student worksheets are better than in classes that do not.

Abstract

In Multivariate regression, we need to assess normality assumption simultaneously, not univariately. Univariate normal distribution does not guarantee the occurrence of multivariate normal distribution [1]. So we need to extend the assessment of univariate normal distribution into multivariate methods. One extended method is skewness and kurtosis as proposed by Mardia [2]. In this paper, we introduce the method, present the procedure of this method, and show how to examine normality assumption in multivariate regression study case using this method and expose the use of statistics software to help us in numerical calculation. Received February 20, 2021Revised March 8, 2021Accepted March 10, 2021

Abstract

Teacher professionalism always views doing something right and good (do the right thing and do it right). Consequently, he will always look for strategic and systematic ways in his learning process to create a conducive and enjoyable learning situation. This service activity aims to train and assist teachers in making learning videos with the Camtasia software. The service activity was attended by 36 teachers and was carried out for three days of activities. The training was carried out using an andragogy approach, which consisted of more demonstrations, questions and answers, and practice and mentoring. The training material is presented with more practice than theory, with a 25% theory to 75% practice ratio. The success of the training was demonstrated by increasing participants' understanding regarding the use of the Camtasia software in making learning videos. The results of the questionnaire showed that there was an increase in participants' understanding of video making and learning video editing techniques. This is indicated by a visible increase in the mean pretest score of 57.78, which increased to 92.83 during the posttest. Meanwhile, the ability to create media was demonstrated by the fact that as many as 20 training participants had made learning video products. This means that service activities increase teacher skills in learning video media.
