Abstract

Numerous studies indicate that women generally show a greater concern for environmental issues than men and often engage more actively in eco-friendly practices like recycling. The difference in environmental attitudes between genders is thought to arise from societal roles, where women are typically viewed as primary caregivers, and men as primary providers. This highlights the intersectionality of gender and culture in environmental matters. This article examines gender dynamics in environmental policymaking, with a focus on the stance of female legislators on environmental issues. It uses the discussion around Law Number 11 of 2020, known as the Job Creation Law, as a case study. The analysis starts by looking at women's representation in the Indonesian parliament and their legislative behavior on environmental matters. The debate over the Job Creation Law reveals that most female legislators tend to align with the ideologies and interests of their political parties, despite criticisms that the law negatively impacts the environment and working women. The research concludes that having women in parliament does not necessarily lead to laws that prioritize women's and environmental interests. Factors such as a gender-biased political culture and a limited understanding of the importance of integrating gender perspectives in environmental and sustainable development issues contribute to the lack of substantive representation of women in parliament. Keywords: women in parliament; gender mainstreaming; substantive representation; pro-environmental policy; legislative behaviour

Abstract

This research explains the increasing number of gender-based violence (GBV) cases in India during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Indian government employed lockdown policy to anticipate the spread of the virus. Gender-based violence cases in India have increased due to the lockdown policies implemented by the Indian government, which have trapped women with perpetrators of gender-based violence. This research aims to understand why gender-based violence in India increased during COVID-19. It uses the theoretical framework of the Relationship Between Gender-Based Violence and Crisis Situations and applies a qualitative research method, with document analysis techniques complemented by a literature review, utilizing secondary data gathered from various sources such as books, journals, bulletins, newspapers, annual reports from related agencies, documents, or other materials that support the research. During the pandemic, cases of gender-based violence (GBV) in India increased due to lockdown policies that forced victims to stay longer with their abusers without access to protection. Victims became more vulnerable, isolated, and had difficulty obtaining help. Additionally, other factors such as economic instability, rising unemployment, and psychological stress due to the lockdown further worsened conditions, increasing the risk of domestic conflict and leading to a surge in gender-based violence cases. The lockdown also isolated victims from social support, making them more vulnerable to escalating physical and psychological abuse. Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a vital role in the national economy by contributing 61% of total GDP and absorbing 97% of Indonesia's total workforce. Various efforts are made to empower MSMEs including export-oriented MSMEs. MSME empowerment is carried out by the central government and local governments in accordance with Law No. 20/2008. Empowerment is carried out because there are several obstacles in MSME exports. One of the regional MSMEs that has successfully exported officially is PT Mond Nature Lestari (Dapur Aru) after receiving assistance and empowerment from various parties. This research uses a qualitative method, by collecting primary data by interviewing MSMEs and government institutions and secondary data from several books, journal articles and websites. This research uses the theoretical framework of the role of government in encouraging MSMEs to export. This paper shows that the role of government in encouraging MSMEs to export has a division at each administrative level. The central government and local governments have their respective roles where the local government prepares and the central government processes. This research indicates that the Dapur Aru export process is assisted by the Riau Province Office of Trade, Industry, Cooperatives and SMEs. The Dapur Aru export process is a combination of central and regional empowerment programs. The use of the theoretical framework of the role of government in encouraging export MSMEs to the export process is correlative to the resolution of export constraints faced by MSMEs. Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic transformed global health dynamics and international relations, particularly in developing countries like Ethiopia. China actively engaged in health diplomacy in Ethiopia during the pandemic, connected to its broader Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) strategic interests in the region. This research analyzes China's health diplomacy in Ethiopia during 2020-2023 and examines its relationship with BRI programs in the country. This research employed a qualitative methodology using document analysis as the primary data collection technique and applied Ilona Kickbusch's global health diplomacy theoretical framework. Various document sources were analyzed including government reports, international organization publications, academic journals, news articles, and policy documents related to China's health diplomacy in Ethiopia. The analysis focused on examining China's health assistance programs, vaccine diplomacy, medical aid, and health infrastructure development conducted in Ethiopia during the research period. Research findings indicate that China's health diplomacy in Ethiopia during the COVID-19 pandemic aligned strategically with BRI objectives. China provided substantial medical assistance including vaccine donations, medical equipment supplies, and health facility construction. These activities strengthened bilateral relations, enhanced China's presence in Ethiopia's health sector, and supported broader BRI goals in East Africa. The study concludes that health diplomacy has become an important instrument in China's foreign policy strategy in regions strategic to BRI success. Abstract

In 2017, President Donald Trump officially recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and relocated the United States Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, marking a major turning point in the direction of U.S. foreign policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. This research focuses on analyzing the underlying factors behind this decision, with particular attention to the influence of major lobbying groups such as AIPAC and Evangelical Christian groups in the formulation of U.S. foreign policy. The findings of this research indicate that domestic political motivations and the interests of lobbying groups played a significant role in the decision to recognize Jerusalem, which not only affected U.S - Israeli relations but also sparked international reactions regarding prospects for peace in the Middle East. The conclusion of this study asserts that U.S. foreign policy in this case was driven more by domestic political calculations and pressure from interest groups than by consideration of international law. Keywords: United States Foreign Policy, AIPAC, Evangelical Christian Groups, Political Lobbying Groups, Israeli-Palestinian Conflict.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how a community manages its resources to address the issue of stunting, which is defined as impaired growth in children due to chronic malnutrition and repeated infections (based on Indonesian Presidential Regulation No. 72 of 2021). Stunting is a serious problem that affects both the physical and psychological development of children. The community studied is Kampung Banjar Seminai, Dayun District, Siak Regency, which claims to have successfully reduced stunting rates in 2023. This is notable because, while the overall stunting rate in Siak Regency slightly increased by 0.33% between 2013 and 2023, the rate in Riau Province dropped significantly from 36.8% to 14% during the same period. The research method involved interviews with people actively involved in tackling stunting at the village level, including the village head, village health workers, and Posyandu volunteers. The results show that the community’s ability to manage resources, along with active participation and good coordination among village actors, played a key role in reducing stunting in Kampung Banjar Seminai. This study highlights the importance of local community involvement in stunting prevention programs and recommends strengthening support and empowering resources at the village level to improve health intervention outcomes.
