Abstract

One of the cross-border crimes is narcotics smuggling. This issue includes non-traditional security threats. This means that the problem is not only limited to one country but also transnational, or more broadly involving other countries. As is the case with drug trafficking, whose syndicates, networks and smuggling have now expanded. This study used qualitative research methods. The author uses document studies as a means of assisting researchers in collecting data or information by reading letters, announcements, meeting summaries, written statements on certain policies and other written materials to describe the threat of narcotics smuggling in the Southeast Asia region. The development of transnational crime as a result of globalization is also other factors related to the movement of people from one country to another or from one region to another. So, to overcome the spread of these crimes, legal instruments related to these types of crimes are needed, both national law and international law/international agreements and their protocols. Abstract

The transnational saturation of South Korean popular culture is experiencing a rapid expansion in the global market which is referred to as the Korean Wave. A major component of the Korean Wave is South Korean pop music (KPOP) which have gained significant popularity due to their highly attractively crafted image that represents the South Korean aesthetic. It explores South Korean popular culture as the impact of globalization on the performance of new gender practices on the value of masculinity which is referred to as soft masculinity. BTS, one of the KPOP idols, has experienced a shift in showing their masculinity, from showing masculinity that is involved towards hegemonic norms to challenging socially accepted values as men by carrying out gentle masculinity. This study uses the theory of perception as a theoretical basis in gaining perceptions among female fans and being aware of objects and events that have occurred stored in popular culture phenomena and interpreting the meaning of soft masculinity. Using descriptive qualitative research methods to explain popular culture phenomena, and data collection techniques from interviews with BTS female fans as informants. Abstract

This thesis discusses the effectiveness of the Proliferation Security Initiative (PSI) regime in countering North Korea's nuclear weapons program. Specifically, this thesis discusses the efforts of the international community and the United States to work together to establish a PSI regime as a response to the threat of nuclear weapons programs and spread by rogue states, one of which is North Korea. PSI is a global effort to stop the spread of weapons of mass destruction (WMD), delivery systems and related materials to and from state actors and non-state actors of proliferation concern. Using descriptive qualitative research methods, the author analyzes PSI's efforts to counter North Korea's nuclear weapons program using the theory of international regime effectiveness proposed by Underdal to measure the effectiveness of the PSI regime in countering North Korea's nuclear weapons program. The effectiveness of a regime can be tested based on the complexity of the problem faced. Analysis of the effectiveness of the PSI regime in countering North Korea's nuclear weapons program can be described as quite complex and limited. Complexities within the PSI regime itself, such as gaps in intelligence and understanding of North Korea's activities and intentions, could become obstacles in designing and implementing effective strategies to suppress its nuclear program. Limited access to accurate and complete information about North Korea's nuclear installations also makes intervention efforts difficult. The ineffectiveness of PSI is also based on limited international cooperation, lack of initiative from all member countries or other countries to fully cooperate in implementing this regime. lack of cooperation reduces PSI's effectiveness in preventing North Korean nuclear proliferation Keywords: PSI, North Korea, Weapon of Mass Destruction, International Regime

Abstract

This research aims to describe the humanitarian diplomacy carried out by the ICRC in handling the humanitarian crisis in the non-international armed conflict, Ethiopia - Tigray in the period 2020 - 2022. Violations of international humanitarian law by the parties to the conflict resulted in a humanitarian crisis, where many lives were lost, especially towards civilians. As a private organization operating in the humanitarian sector, the ICRC uses humanitarian diplomacy to protect and provide assistance to conflict victims, including the Ethiopia – Tigray conflict. This research uses qualitative research methods, by collecting data through document analysis techniques sourced from books, journals, reports and websites related to ICRC diplomacy in the Ethiopia - Tigray conflict. The theoretical framework used in this research is humanitarian diplomacy which discusses how humanitarian actors use diplomacy to influence state actors in order to gain access to communities affected by the crisis. The level of analysis used is the group level of analysis. The results of this research show that in order to handle the humanitarian crisis in the Ethiopia - Tigray conflict, the diplomatic approach used by the ICRC is to negotiate access to assistance for victims by conducting dialogue with the conflict parties. The ICRC also monitors and provides assistance by providing essential needs, rehabilitation of facilities and infrastructure, as well as food security programs for conflict victims. In addition, in protecting victims, the ICRC promotes international humanitarian law against local authorities. Abstract

Digital platform workers, seeking employment or income through applications or websites, have significantly altered the labor market structure with unique characteristics such as flexibility, mobility, and diversity. Despite offering freedom, digital platform workers also face serious challenges, including job uncertainty, discrimination, and a lack of social protection. These conditions have been further exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, impacting digital platform workers across various aspects, ranging from health to economic and social stability. However, there is currently no specific policy regarding the protection of these workers. This research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach to collect and analyze data from both primary and secondary sources. Primary data is obtained through direct interviews with representatives from ILO Indonesia-Timor Leste, representatives from the Ministry of Manpower of the Republic of Indonesia, and representatives from Labor Unions affected by the pandemic. Secondary data is sourced from conventions, documents, reports, articles, and other forms of information. The research shows that the ILO influences the landscape of Indonesia's labor policy regarding the protection of digital platform workers by providing in-depth understanding, advocating for improved social guarantees, and enhancing skills through an inclusive approach. The ILO implements diverse programs and activities, including research, training, workshops, conferences, advocacy, and networking, to raise awareness, build capacity, and engage the Indonesian government in safeguarding digital platform workers during the pandemic. Close collaboration with the government, workers, employers, and other organizations is also a focus of the ILO to develop policies and standards. Keywords: Protection, digital platform workers, ILO, pandemic, COVID-19, Indonesia, Labour Unions.

Abstract

Twelve years in a row, the World Economic Forum has ranked Iceland as the nation with the highest level of gender equality. Even though Iceland has the maximum level of gender equality, there is still gender-based violence. According to Stigamot, an Icelandic survivor center, as many as 12% of Icelandic women reported experiencing gender-based violence, and as many as 40% of women entering college admitted to having experienced such violence. This study employs qualitative methods, with data collected from reputable sources such as books, official publications from the report from Stigamot, journals, and news articles. This study employs the capability theory to argue that violence against women unquestionably affects all economic, educational, social, and environmental factors. A number of efforts have been made by the Icelandic government to combat instances of gender-based violence, including the formation of a steering committee to address gender-based violence in accordance with Goal 5 of the Sustainable Development Goals. The findings of this study indicate that gender-based violence will increase in 2021, despite the fact that it still occurs today. The challenge for the government is the lack of shelters, the reluctance of people to disclose homelessness due to the stigma, and the inefficiency of decisions in Iceland. Abstract

This research analyzed the Indo-Pacific Strategy of U.S to encourage Asia Pacific countries to join Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) partnership. IPEF is an economic framework initiated by Joe Biden’s administration that seeks to advance discussion about crucial economic issues such as trade, supply chain, clean economy and fair economy. This research used a neorealism perspective to explain that countries tend to compete for power in anarchic international system where there is no highest authority that regulates the behaviors of countries in international relations. Theory used in this research is institutional balancing in which countries take advantages of the domination of multilateral institutions to give pressure and threaten other countries so as to create security. The method used in this research is qualitative method with document analysis technique which was cited from books, journal article, or websites and other references that are relevant. The result of this research is that the U.S applied loose rules for countries who had wanted to join IPEF membership. Those Loose rules mean that all members have freedom to choose their commitment under one or more pillars of IPEF that align with their national interests without any requirement to be bound and participate in all cooperation under those four existing pillars.
