Abstract

Schiff base is a chemical compound that is formed from the reaction between aldehydes and primary amines by condensation and produces by-products in the form of water. Schiff base is the raw material that is added in making Fragrance. The purpose of this study was to determine the method of synthesis of Schiff base verdantiol with simple condensation. The research method was carried out with four stages: preparation, synthesis, testing and measurement of parameters, and calculations. Preparation includes weighing the raw material Schiff base verdantiol. Schiff base synthesis is carried out by stirring at a temperature of about 90°C ± 5° C (Arctender, 1969) with a modification time of 15 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, 2 hours and 3 hours. Testing and measurement parameters include organoleptic, density and specific gravity tests in pycnometer and compound confirmation using Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry. The results showed that the optimum synthesis of Schiff base verdantiol compounds was carried out at a heating time of 2 hours. The results of odor, color, density and gravity specifications heating time 2 hours according to specifications with the standard. GCMS confirmation results at 2 hours percent similarity are above 94%.

Abstract

Increased human activities will cause various problems, one of which is water pollution in water sources because it receives a pollution load that exceeds its carrying capacity. In the context of environmental conservation, the government has set quality standards for liquid waste produced by various industries and other activities in a Decree of the State Minister for the Environment. COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand) is one of the most important parameters in wastewater quality standards. This study aims to validate the COD analysis method which refers to COD Thermoreactor System (LOVIBOND brand) at Pakuan University Service Laboratory, to ensure the validity of COD analysis results at Pakuan University Service Laboratory. Spectrodirect COD analysis method provides results that meet the requirements of accuracy, precision, LOD, and LOQ which is quite good. The results of the Coefficient of Variation give good results with a value of 1.8841% indicating the accuracy of the analysis method is good. The accuracy parameter also gives good results and meets the requirements with a% recovery value of 98.70351%. Overall, it can be stated that the spectrodirect analysis method tested is an accurate, precise, simple, and economical method for determining COD levels

Abstract

This study aims to develop water teaching materials using android on students’ problem-solving skills and religious attitudes with a learning model of the Science, Technology, Religious, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STREAM) approach science subjects. The experimental method carried out by R and D uses the 4D design (Define, Design, Develop and Disseminate). The research data were collected and analyzed in the form of quantitative descriptive from the results of the students’ pretest and posttest. This research was conducted through a google form by distributing a questionnaire, which was given to students with 50 respondents and five science teachers who had used STREAM-based water teaching materials using android. The results of the study, the average percentage of problem-solving skills with N Gain was 73% with a high category, which means that the application of learning materials based on android is proven to improve student learning. Assessment of religious attitudes in integrating material with the verses of the Quran is very good. This study’s conclusion shows that learning using STREAM-based teaching materials using android is statistically very significant, proven to be effective in improving students’ problem-solving skills and religious attitudes to water material in online learning during the current pandemic.

Abstract

Liquid smoke is produced from the pyrolysis process and condensation from the coconut shell waste combustion process. This liquid smoke is known to have a high level of polyphenol content and is used as a rubber processing, deodorizing, and wood preservative to make it resistant to termites. In addition, it can also be used as an insecticide for plants. This community service is carried out to design and manufacture a micro-scale liquid smoke pyrolysis machine, which is expected to reduce the amount of smoke produced during the charcoal burning process, also to help partners create an additional type of product, namely liquid smoke. for plant insecticides so that it will increase partners' monthly income. The method that will be used in achieving this goal is to provide training and practice to partners on how to process cranium waste other than into charcoal, namely into liquid smoke as an insecticide in plants.

Abstract

This study aims to measure students' scientific literacy and collaboration skills. The method used was survey research on 267 high school students in Jakarta. The instrument in this study was a scientific literacy test of 40 multiple-choice PISA items developed by Moore and Foy (1997) and a non-test instrument in a rubric observation sheet to measure students' collaboration skills. The results show that students' scientific literacy is at a moderate level. Of 27 students, there are 3% of students with very high scientific literacy skills, 7% of students with high scientific literacy skills, 64% of students with moderate scientific literacy skills, 11% of students with low scientific literacy skills, and 15% of students with very low scientific literacy skills. The research concludes that scientific literacy is a skill that students must possess. Scientific literacy and collaboration skills are needed to face the demands of 21st-century learning with the rapid development of technology and knowledge.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Socioscientific Issue (SSI)-based petroleum materials integrated with the eLSMAWAR website on students’ scientific literacy during the COVID-19 Pandemic. However, it still targets the achievement of 21st-century skills, namely scientific literacy competencies. Scientific literacy is needed as a skill that can answer the demands of the 21st-century era, as a problem solver that is competitive, innovative, creative, collaborative, and has character. This research method uses Research and Development (R D), which refers to Borg and Gall’s development model. The instrument used in this study was an expert validation sheet filled in by a validator which was useful for knowing whether it was feasible or not to develop. Students are given ten descriptive questions on a 1-4 Likert scale to determine the effect of teaching materials on scientific literacy. The data obtained were analyzed by descriptive quantitative. Expert validation resulted in an average percentage of 87% on material, presentation, language, and legibility aspects. For the validation of chemistry educators, the mean score of CVI for the language aspect and legibility is 0.80; the material aspect is 0.86; for the presentation, aspect is 0.84. This means that based on chemistry experts and educators, the criteria for SSI-based petroleum materials integrated with the eLSMAWAR website are appropriate/valid and very suitable for use. The scientific literacy test results obtained an N-Gain of 0.66, which means that the SSI-based teaching materials integrated with the eLSMAWAR website are quite effective in improving students’ scientific literacy. The research concludes that the teaching material based on Socioscientific Issue (SSI) integrated with the eLSMAWAR website on students’ scientific literacy with three indicators of scientific literacy is following the demands of the implementation of 21st-century skills.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menyelidiki pengaruh pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum pada materi laju reaksi terhadap penguasaan konsep dan sikap ilmiah siswa. Penelitian dilaksanakan di salah satu SMA swasta di Kota Bogor kelas XI IPA pada tahun ajaran 2016/2017. Populasi berjumlah 192 siswa dengan jumlah sampel sebanyak 60 siswa yang dibagi ke dalam 31 siswa mengikuti pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum dan 29 siswa mengikuti pembelajaran tradisional. Pengumpulan data dilakukan melalui test penguasaan konsep laju reaksi dan angket sikap ilmiah dengan skala likert. Data dianalisis secara statistik deskriptif dan inferensial menggunakan independent t-test. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara penguasaan konsep siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum (rata-rata 80,7) dan penguasaan konsep siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran tradisional (rata-rata 74,8). Sikap ilmiah siswa juga menunjukkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran dengan inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum (rata-rata 3,2) dan sikap ilmiah siswa yang mengikuti pembelajaran tradisional (rata-rata 2,2). Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dan sikap ilmiah siswa.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memperoleh informasi tentang pemanfaatan e-book dalam meningkatkan literasi kimia siswa pada materi asam basa. Dalam penelitian ini digunakan metode pre-eksperimen dengan pre-post test design, disertai dengan analisis deskriptif tentang literasi sains siswa dikaitkan dengan penggunaan e-book sebagai bahan ajar. Subyek penelitian terdiri dari 38 siswa kelas XI dari satu SMA di daerah Bogor, Jawa Barat, dan 3 guru kimia. Instrumen yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini terdiri dari tes literasi dan angket respon siswa serta guru. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penggunaan e-book asam basa dapat meningkatkan minat siswa yang dibuktikan dari hasil tanggapan siswa. Hampir semua siswa menyatakan sangat menyenangi e-book, dan merasakan manfaatnya dalam belajar asam-basa, Guru juga memberikan respon yang sangat baik, 87% guru menyatakan bahwa e-book asam-basa sangat memudahkan guru dalam pembelajaran sebagai sumber belajar alternatif. Hasil penelitian lebih lanjut menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan e-book dapat meingkatkan literasi sains siswa, dengan peningkatan (Ngain) sebesar 40,2% (kategori sedang).

Abstract

Abstrak: Penelitian kuasi eksperimen ini bertujuan untuk mengimplementasikan pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis pratikum untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dan keterampilan proses sains siswa pada topik pengukuran. Sebanyak 83 siswa SMP Kelas I terlibat dalam penelitian ini. Subjek penelitian dikelompokkan dalam kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol. Kelompok eksperimen mendapat perlakuan pembelajaran inkuiri berbasis peratikum sedangkan kelompok kontrol mendapat perlakuan pembelajaran berbasis pratikum. Penelitian ini menggunakan instrumen pilihan ganda untuk menjaring penguasan konsep siswa, sedangkan keterampilan proses sains dijaring dengan menggunakan tes esay. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum pada topik penguran dapat meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dan Keterampilan Proses Sains (KPS) siswa. Peningkatan penguasaan konsep untuk kelas eksperimen adalah 54.58% sedangkan kelas kontrol adalah 26.60%. Peningkatan Keterampilan Proses Sains (KPS) pada kelas eksperimen sebesar 67.80% dengan kategori tinggi, sedangkan Keterampilan Proses Sains (KPS) kelas kontrol adalah 27.25% dengan katerogi sedang. Hasil analisis juga menunjukkan bahwa terdapat korelasi positif antara penguasaan konsep dan Keterampilan Proses Sains (KPS). Siswa juga memberikan tanggapan positif terhadap impelementasi pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing berbasis praktikum.Kata Kunci: Pembelajaran Inkuiri, Pratikum, Penguasaan Konsep, Keterampilan Proses Sains

Abstract

Hidrolisis garam merupakan salah satu materi pelajaran kimia yang diajarkan di kelas XI SMA. Sebagian besar (60%) siswa menyatakan materi hidrolisis garam tergolong sukar.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menerapkan pembelajaran bounded inquiry labs untuk meningkatkan penguasaan konsep dan kemampuan berpikir analisis siswa pada topik hidrolisis garam. Metode dalam penelitian ini adalah kuasi eksperimen dengan desain Nonequivalen Pretest-Posttest  Control Group Design. Ada dua kelompok sampel yaitu kelompok eksperimen dan kelompok kontrol yang dipilih secara purposive sampling. Kelas kontrol dengan pembelajaran langsung dan kelas eksperimen dengan pembelajaran bounded inquiry labs. Instrumen sudah divalidasi dan reliabel. Data yang terkumpul dianalisis secara deskriptif dan inferensial. Hasil penelitian yang terdiri dari penguasaan konsep dan kemampuan berpikir analisis menunjukkan terdapat kenaikan N-gain antara kelas kontrol dan kelas eksperimen. Hasil uji statistik dengan uji t-Test  diperoleh signifikansi (sig.(2-tailed)) sebesar 0,019 untuk penguasaan konsep dan 0,002 untuk kemampuan berpikir analisis, yang berarti dari 0,005 menunjukkan terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan antara penguasaan konsep kelas kontrol maupun kelas eksperimen. Hasil ini diperkuat dengan tanggapan siswa yang menyatakan siswa lebih termotivasi dalam mengikuti pembelajaran BIL dan mereka terbantu dalam pencapaian nilai ulangan yang labih baik. Kata Kunci: Penguasaan Konsep, Kemampuan Berpikir Analisis, Bounded Inquiry Labs, Hidrolisis Garam
