Abstract

This study examines the preferences of EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students regarding the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in writing, specifically at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra. The study explores how AI tools such as DeepL Translator, Google Translator, Grammarly, QuillBot, and ChatGPT enhance students' writing quality. Data was collected through questionnaires and semi-structured interviews from 15 students in the English Education program. The results indicate that DeepL Translator is the preferred tool for translation due to its editing flexibility, followed by Google Translator and QuillBot. QuillBot and Grammarly dominate in grammar checking, chosen for their ability to boost students' confidence in writing. ChatGPT is the most commonly used AI for generating writing ideas, while QuillBot ranks highest for paraphrasing. These findings reveal that although AI provides quick and specific feedback, there are concerns about over-reliance on this technology. The study concludes that while AI is a practical writing aid, its use should be balanced to avoid hindering the development of independent writing skills. This research provides important insights into integrating AI in writing instruction in EFL environments.

Abstract

This study studies about students' perceptions of employing Humata AI for producing Critical Journal Reviews (CJR) and evaluates its advantages and limitations. Six students from a single University conducted semi-structured interviews employing a qualitative technique. Key themes in participant responses were identified using thematic analysis applied to the collected data. The majority of students indicated that Humata AI facilitated a more effective interpretation and evaluation of scientific papers. The primary advantages, particularly with structure and academic language, included the ease of uploading and obtaining journal summaries, increased confidence in writing, and the quality of academic writing. This study, however, also identified some flaws, including excessive dependence on technology, the reliability of analytical results that are not consistently appropriate, and concerns over the originality of student work. Consequently, our research indicates that while Humata AI provides significant benefits to students in the academic analysis process, its use must be complemented by traditional learning methods to ensure the development of critical thinking and independent academic writing skills. The results of this study have implications for educators and educational institutions in the ethical and effective integration into academic writing.

Abstract

Educational innovation continues to develop with advances in digital technology, including the use of Augmented Reality (AR) in learning. This research aims to measure the effectiveness of AR-based mathematics books (MathAR Book) on students' mathematical understanding. MathAR Book integrates traditional learning content with AR elements such as 3D visualization and interactive animations to increase student interest and engagement in learning mathematics. This research methodology uses a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest design. The sample consisted of class XII students who were randomly selected and divided into an experimental group that used the MathAR Book and a control group that used conventional textbooks. The instruments used include tests of understanding mathematical concepts, learning motivation questionnaires, and in-depth interviews. The results showed a significant increase in students' mathematical understanding in the experimental group compared to the control group. MathAR Book students also showed increased learning motivation and concept visualization abilities. Student feedback indicates that AR creates a more engaging and effective learning environment. In conclusion, the MathAR Book effectively improves students' mathematical understanding.
