Abstract

The incidence of obesity in the world has increased recently and doubled from 1980 to 2014. Obesity can increase the risk of many diseases. Medical students are a vulnerable group affected by obesity because of stressful conditions that can increase the incidence of obesity. This analytical research uses a cross sectional method approach using primary data. The populations in this study were medical students at the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University. In this study, 300 samples were taken from first-fifth semester students. The independent variables that will be studied in this study are Gender, physical activity, family obesity history, and consumption of fruit or vegetables. The dependent variable in this study is nutritional status. Based on this study found a significant association between gender, family history of obesity, eating of fruits or vegetables to nutritional status. Still, there is no significant association between physical activity on the nutritional group of medical students. Three variables in this research correlated with the nutritional status of medical education students at the Faculty of Medicine, Airlangga University, Surabaya, which are gender, family obesity history, and consumption of fruit or vegetables. From this research, it was found that the incidence of over-nutrition was still high among medical education students and there was still a lack of awareness among students to exercise and consume fruit or vegetables in their meals.

Abstract

Highlights:1. Doctors who perform therapeutic communication make patients more satisfied with their services.2. Good therapeutic communication is the most effective way to establish relationships with patients with long-term treatment such as hypertension. AbstractIntroduction: Hypertension or high blood pressure is an increase in systolic blood pressure of more than 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure of more than 90 mmHg at two measurements at intervals of five minutes under adequate rest/calm conditions. Therapeutic communication is the most effective and important thing in establishing relationships between doctors and patients. Good communication based on trust will produce satisfaction from the patients, thus they can seek treatment again. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between therapeutic communication and hypertensive patients’ satisfaction measured among those who visited the Primary Health Center (PHC) of Surabaya to control their blood pressure. Methods: This was a cross-sectional quantitative study with all hypertensive patients who visited the PHC in November 2018-January 2019 as the subjects. Characteristics of the subjects, as well as the doctors and the therapeutic communication practices, were rated by the patients. Patients’ satisfaction was collected using validated questionnaires. Results: According to a relationship analysis between doctors’ therapeutic communication and patients’ satisfaction, it is found that there was a significant relationship. This was based on a significance value of 0.00 and smaller than 0.05. The better the communication applied by the doctor, the more satisfied the patient was. This study showed that service satisfaction was influenced by therapeutic communication where doctors at the PHC try to fulfill every indicator. Conclusion: There was a relationship between the therapeutic communication of doctors and the satisfaction of hypertensive patients at the PHC.

Abstract

The lockdown policy was implemented during the Covid-19 pandemic to stop its spread. Indonesia modified the lockdown into PSBB (Pembatasan Sosial Berskala Besar). During PSBB school activities were replaced with online learning methods. This increased screen time and near-sighted activities and reduced time outdoors, were the risk factors for myopia. The objective of this study was to determine the myopia prevalence among students during the pandemic. This study used a systematic review method with meta-analysis. Data collection was taken from PubMed, Mendeley, and Google Scholar databases published in 2020-2021. The inclusion criterion was research on myopia prevalence among students during the pandemic of Covid-19. Data retrieval used the PICO method and journal adjustments were selected using the PRISMA algorithm. Data analysis was performed using a random-effects model. Out of 971 studies found, only six studies met the criterion. The results of the study based on the forest plot showed high heterogeneity and significant differences in the results. This was probably due to the inclusion criterion being too broad. In the funnel plot, there was a possible publication bias because the data obtained was only available and accessible. Overall, the journals studied stated that increased screen time and lack of outdoor activity increased myopia prevalence. Other risk factors that consistently cause an increase in myopia prevalence are education level, paternal and maternal myopia, and too-close reading distance. Otherwise, age, gender, BMI, eye exercise, eating habits, posture, and lighting while reading showed so many differences in the results that conclusions cannot be made.

Abstract

Highlights: Due to the increasing elderly population in Indonesia, this study must address the knowledge and skill gaps among health cadres in a number of Integrated Health Posts for the Elderly (Pos Layanan Terpadu Lanjut Usia/ Posyandu Lansia).  Through this study, the health cadres increased their knowledge and skills, enabling them to provide comprehensive health services for the elderly.  Abstract Numerous issues have arisen as a result of the large size and rapid growth of the elderly population, attesting to the need for serious efforts from all sectors to enhance their welfare. However, the health cadres at the Integrated Health Post for the Elderly (Pos Layanan Terpadu Lanjut Usia/ Posyandu Lansia) lacked the training that would have equipped them with the necessary knowledge and skills to carry out their duties. This study aimed to evaluate the significance of training for enhancing the cadres' knowledge and skills in providing comprehensive health services for the elderly. This study was quasi-experimental research with a pre-test and post-test design. The data analysis was performed using the Shapiro-Wilk test (p>0.05) and the Wilcoxon test (p<0.05). A total of 30 health cadres at Songgon Community Health Center were measured for their levels of knowledge and skills before and after the training. The training included filling out health evaluation charts, providing leaflets containing health counseling materials for the elderly, practicing exercise for the elderly, and singing an elderly marching song. Before filling out the health evaluation chart, the cadres had to measure the elderly's degree of independence as well as their mental, emotional, and nutritional status. The cadres also had to measure the weight, height, and blood pressure of the elderly. Prior to training, the cadres' knowledge of hospitalization referrals, independence, and physical exercise for the elderly was limited. The cadres' skills in filling out health evaluation charts, assessing mental, emotional, and nutritional status, measuring blood pressure, and instructing physical exercise were also inadequate. There was a significant difference in the knowledge and skills of the health cadres before and after training (p<0.05). In conclusion, there was an improvement in the health cadres' knowledge and skills regarding comprehensive health services for the elderly at the Posyandu Lansia.
