Abstract

The water hyacinth problem in the Cibanten River has not been optimally addressed. Community efforts, along with the Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) and the Maulana Yusuf Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), have generally been limited to river cleanups and community service activities. These activities are temporary, as the water hyacinth will regrow within a short time. However, if managed properly, water hyacinth has significant potential as a biomass resource that can be utilized to create valuable and economically viable products, one of which is biomass briquettes. Community empowerment activities in Kasunyatan Village, utilizing water hyacinth to produce biomass briquettes, have achieved their objectives. The community has successfully increased their knowledge, skills, and awareness of sustainable environmental management. The participatory, case-based implementation method is aligned with the challenges and needs of the community facing flooding and excessive water hyacinth growth. This program has had a positive impact on the environment by reducing river blockages and providing economic benefits through business opportunities for briquette production. Furthermore, it has fostered collective community awareness to maintain environmental cleanliness and utilize local resources independently. In the future, it is recommended that this activity be developed by improving the quality of briquette products and strengthening cooperation with related parties to provide broader and more sustainable benefits.

Abstract

Banten merupakan pelabuhan yang menjadi tempat perniagaan internasional pada awal Masehi. Masjid Agung Banten diperkirakan berdiri pada tahun 1556 saat kepemimpinan Sultan Maulana Hasanuddin (1552-1570 M). Tujuan dibuatnya artikel ini untuk mengetahui fungsi sosial keagamaan Masjid Banten Lama di masa lalu hingga sekarang ini. Studi ini menggunakan metode deskriptif dan kualitatif dengan pendekatan etnografi. Metode pada penelitian ini juga menggunakan Systematic Literature Review (SLR). Kawasan Masjid Agung Banten ini diurus oleh Badan Kenadziran Kesultanan Maulana Hasanuddin Banten. Masjid Agung Banten mempunyai luas kawasan 1,3 hektar dan memiliki dinding pagar yang dihiasi dengan arsitektur bercorak Eropa, Tiongkok dan Hindu. Berdasarkan hasil yang telah didapatkan, dapat disimpulkan bahwa Masjid Banten Lama di masa lalu berperan sebagai tempat ibadah, dakwah dan syiar agama. Di masa kini terdapat tambahan beberapa kegiatan sosial keagamaan yang diadakan seperti buka puasa bersama saat Ramadhan, tasyakuran, santunan yatim piatu, dan ziarah makam.

Abstract

Population growth harms water resources in terms of both quality and quantity. The negative impact in quantity is the occurrence of environmental pollution, such as water, soil, and air pollution. The negative impact in quality is a decrease in the quality of natural resources, especially pollution of water resources in the surrounding environment, so that a decrease in the quality of clean water available to the community results in an increase in disease rates, damages aquatic ecosystems and affects economic activity in the environment. Waste disposal and management are two factors that affect environmental quality. Household garbage or waste is waste from daily activities, such as used water from bathing, washing, or cooking waste. Waste disposal and management, especially household wastes, are still poorly handled. All of these things have a huge impact on environmental pollution in Pontang Subdistrict, especially on the drinking water source for the residents of Pontang Subdistrict. This research was conducted qualitatively using survey, observation, and interview methods. The results showed that the impact of household waste in Pontang Subdistrict pollutes the environment by reducing the aesthetics of the environment, causing unpleasant odors and becoming seeds of disease material. The impact of household waste on drinking water sources in Pontang Subdistrict causes drinking water sources consumed to have a color that is not clear, smells, and tastes so that there may be microorganisms that cause various sources of digestive diseases. Implications for biology learning utilizing group discussions, field trips or project-based. The application of impact is useful for students and the community in raising awareness about the importance of environmental awareness.

Abstract

Plant Growth Promoting Bacteria Rhizobacteria (PGPR) is one of the potential bacteria to enhance of Capsicum annuum through inhabitation the growth of pathogenic fungi. This study aimed to characterize PGPR in chili plants (Capsicum annuum). PGPR was isolated from the soil habitat of the red chili plant in Cilegon, Indonesia. Screening was then carried out with the dual culture method on Petri dishes and tested through in vivo method on the red chili plant. The selected bacteria were characterized morphologically, biochemically, and physiologically. The results revealed that there were 14 single isolates of bacteria from the roots of the red chili plants. The five single bacterial isolates, namely Azostobacter, Azospirillum, Pseudomonas, Serratia, and Beijerinckia have good potential as PGPR based on multiple culture screening by producing clear zones and positively effect the growth of chili plants.

Abstract

The study aimed to determine the understanding of the pre-service biology teachers regarding the importance of organic and inorganic waste management for the environment. The method used is a qualitative using questionnaire data collection method. The results showed that the pre-service biology teachers' understanding of organic and inorganic waste management was very high. However, there still needs to be more understanding of how to manage waste properly and its application.
