Abstract

The water hyacinth problem in the Cibanten River has not been optimally addressed. Community efforts, along with the Youth Organization (Karang Taruna) and the Maulana Yusuf Tourism Awareness Group (POKDARWIS), have generally been limited to river cleanups and community service activities. These activities are temporary, as the water hyacinth will regrow within a short time. However, if managed properly, water hyacinth has significant potential as a biomass resource that can be utilized to create valuable and economically viable products, one of which is biomass briquettes. Community empowerment activities in Kasunyatan Village, utilizing water hyacinth to produce biomass briquettes, have achieved their objectives. The community has successfully increased their knowledge, skills, and awareness of sustainable environmental management. The participatory, case-based implementation method is aligned with the challenges and needs of the community facing flooding and excessive water hyacinth growth. This program has had a positive impact on the environment by reducing river blockages and providing economic benefits through business opportunities for briquette production. Furthermore, it has fostered collective community awareness to maintain environmental cleanliness and utilize local resources independently. In the future, it is recommended that this activity be developed by improving the quality of briquette products and strengthening cooperation with related parties to provide broader and more sustainable benefits.

Abstract

This study analyses how Mary Wollstonecraft’s liberal feminism is represented in the film Kartini (2017). It specifically examines the portrayal of educational equality, women’s rationality, and women’s autonomy within Javanese feudal culture. Employing a qualitative descriptive method, the research draws on dialogues, scenes, character expressions, and visual elements from Kartini (2017). Data were gathered through observation, note-taking, and documentation, and analysed through identification, classification, interpretation, and description, all grounded in Wollstonecraft’s liberal feminist perspective. The findings show that Kartini (2017) portrays liberal feminism through three core elements. First, educational equality is highlighted by depicting women’s struggles to access education within a restrictive feudal culture. Visuals such as books, journals, letters, seclusion rooms, and relevant dialogues illustrate the clash between modern education and Javanese tradition. Second, women’s rationality emerges through Kartini and other women who critically challenge traditions such as seclusion, arranged marriage, and prescribed social roles. Third, women’s autonomy appears in their efforts to assert control over their life choices amid familial and societal expectations. The film presents liberal feminism as an ongoing negotiation with, rather than a full rejection of, Javanese feudal values. Thus, Kartini (2017) frames education, rationality, and autonomy as key tools in women’s fight against patriarchy and feudalism.

Abstract

Rapid urban population growth has intensified solid waste generation, while many existing waste management systems still rely on manual inspection and single-parameter monitoring, resulting in delayed responses and inefficient handling. Previous studies have primarily focused on isolated sensing or offline monitoring, highlighting the need for integrated, real-time, and user-oriented waste monitoring solutions. This study used RnD method, proposes a smart garbage level and information hub (SIGALIH), an IoT based waste monitoring and notification system designed to address these limitations. SIGALIH combines multi-parameter sensing, including waste level, temperature–humidity, gas concentration, and ambient light, with an ESP32 microcontroller, a cloud-based data platform, and a real-time notification service using a messaging bot. System evaluation involved sensor accuracy testing, communication latency analysis, and functional verification. Experimental results indicate an average sensor accuracy of 96.8%, with an average data transmission latency of 1.84 seconds and a notification delay of 2.14 seconds, indicating reliable real-time performance under varying network conditions. Functional testing confirmed stable operation of all system modules. The system was also integrated into an Environmental Education learning module to support environmental literacy and awareness through contextual learning on sustainable waste management. SIGALIH is designed for small- to medium-scale urban and community-based applications. However, performance depends on wireless network availability, which may reduce reliability in low-connectivity areas. Overall, SIGALIH provides a low-cost, scalable, integrated solution supporting smart environmental management and sustainable urban waste initiatives.

Abstract

Population growth harms water resources in terms of both quality and quantity. The negative impact in quantity is the occurrence of environmental pollution, such as water, soil, and air pollution. The negative impact in quality is a decrease in the quality of natural resources, especially pollution of water resources in the surrounding environment, so that a decrease in the quality of clean water available to the community results in an increase in disease rates, damages aquatic ecosystems and affects economic activity in the environment. Waste disposal and management are two factors that affect environmental quality. Household garbage or waste is waste from daily activities, such as used water from bathing, washing, or cooking waste. Waste disposal and management, especially household wastes, are still poorly handled. All of these things have a huge impact on environmental pollution in Pontang Subdistrict, especially on the drinking water source for the residents of Pontang Subdistrict. This research was conducted qualitatively using survey, observation, and interview methods. The results showed that the impact of household waste in Pontang Subdistrict pollutes the environment by reducing the aesthetics of the environment, causing unpleasant odors and becoming seeds of disease material. The impact of household waste on drinking water sources in Pontang Subdistrict causes drinking water sources consumed to have a color that is not clear, smells, and tastes so that there may be microorganisms that cause various sources of digestive diseases. Implications for biology learning utilizing group discussions, field trips or project-based. The application of impact is useful for students and the community in raising awareness about the importance of environmental awareness.
