Abstract

Introduction: The Corona Virus Infectious Disease (COVID)-19 pandemic has impacted tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis and treatment in Indonesia, making Indonesia rank second in the world’s tuberculosis cases. Tuberculosis epidemiology worsened during the pandemic; an estimated 10.6 million people fell ill with tuberculosis worldwide in 2021, an increase of 4.5% from the previous year (Falzon et al., 2023). Aims: The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between knowledge, perception, and stigma toward tuberculosis prevention in the community in Jakarta. Methods: Respondents in this study were selected using simple random sampling with the criteria at least 17 years of age and currently not diagnosed as a TB patient. Those who were diagnosed with active TB and were on treatment were excluded from the study. Using a cross-sectional design, this study was analyzed with logistic regression. Results: Two factors were found to be associated with the level of tuberculosis prevention behavior. Respondents with better knowledge about tuberculosis were 5.13 times more likely to make good prevention in tuberculosis (OR=5.129; 95% CI=2.341-11.238; p-value <0.001). In addition, having a positive perception of tuberculosis prevention was also associated with better tuberculosis prevention practices (OR=3.301; 95% CI=1.402-7.772; p-value=0.006). Conclusion: Knowledge and perceptions can also eventually lead to stigma, which results in delayed diagnosis, increases the source of transmission, and hinders efforts to reduce its prevalence. A possible recommendation is to educate the community about TB transmission, treatment, and prevention to dispel myths and negative perceptions.

Abstract

Introduction: One of the pregnancy complications that needs to be monitored is the occurrence of preeclampsia because it has a high risk of maternal and infant death. The risk of preeclampsia during pregnancy can be determined through routine pregnancy checks. Routine pregnancy checks, or antenatal care, have low coverage. This study aimed to investigate the validity of the family centered maternity care (FCMC) construct and the relationship between pregnant women's characteristics, family characteristics, healthcare factors, sources of support, and family support in antenatal visit adherence using structural equation modeling (SEM). Methods: The research design was correlational, using a Cross-Sectional Study approach. A total of 135 respondents were included in this study. The research data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: FCMC-based family support is based on the characteristics of pregnant women, family characteristics, health services, and sources of support, with family characteristics being the most significant contributor to FCMC-based family support. Compliance with antenatal care (ANC) visits is shaped by family characteristics, health services, and FCMC-based family support, where FCMC-based family support is the variable that makes the most significant contribution to ANC visit compliance for pregnant women. Conclusions: Health services are essential for facilitating public health issues, with all efforts and activities carried out to prevent and treat diseases. Health service officers must involve families in antenatal care to avoid complications during pregnancy.

Abstract

Background: Physical inactivity (PA) is an important contributor to morbidity and mortality globally. Adolescence is an important period of engaging in physical activity. 2 systematic reviews before 2022 concluded that studies need more methods and evaluations to prove the continued effect of Online-based interventions. It is therefore prudent to continue this research by considering how we can approach young people to grow healthy values into their day-to-day activities. Purpose: This study aims to determine online-based interventions for physical activity in adolescents. Method: A search of the literature databases Scopus, Science Direct and Springerlink using key words ‘Adolescents’, ’Teenagers’, ’E-health’, ’Internet-based’ , ‘Online-based’, and ’Physical Activity’ limited to 5 articles which fit the criteria for inclusion. Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) protocol was used, and papers were excluded if they were disease focused, not specific to adolescents or did not measure PA as an outcome. Results: All of studies had significant increases in PA as a result of an Online-Based intervention Studies include using various implementation mechanisms. The majority of studies use a mix of web- tutorials and based lessons for participants to work on in addition to goal setting via online, app-based (4/5). That remaining studies they were given an accelerometer as a measuring device and instructed online to perform the physical activity used for the rest of the study using online forums and PA experts to emphasize the effect of goal setting. Various intervention such as giving messages about PA or Health related issues were performed few a week for about 2-3 month. Conclusion: Online-based interventions are a very successful way to increase PA. More research is required to look at what theoretical principles are best to underpin interventions and also to  assess the length of intervention required for optimal results after intervention. Ideas  surrounding implementation require more studies to evidence base these  interventions for schools, via intracurriculum or extracurriculum.

Abstract

Nurse retention in conflict zones remains a critical global issue, significantly influencing the sustainability of healthcare services. Nurses in these areas face numerous challenges, including safety risks, emotional stress, and inadequate compensation, which impact their decision to continue working in such environments. This systematic review aims to identify and analyze factors influencing nurse retention in conflict zones and propose intervention strategies to address these challenges. A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines. Data were extracted from Scopus, PubMed, Web of Science, and CINAHL databases. Studies focusing on nurse retention in conflict zones were included, with data extraction guided by the PICOS framework. The quality of the included studies was assessed using Joanna Briggs Institute tools. A total of fifteen studies were reviewed, identifying key factors for nurse retention. These include improved working conditions, adequate safety measures, financial incentives (e.g., risk allowances), and emotional support systems. Job satisfaction, influenced by job security and a supportive work environment, was also a significant determinant of retention. Emotional and psychological support systems were found to reduce burnout, thereby fostering nurse retention. A multifaceted approach, incorporating improved working conditions, enhanced financial incentives, and robust emotional support, is essential for retaining nurses in conflict zones. Future research should focus on the long-term impact of these strategies and their adaptation to region-specific needs.

Abstract

Background: The face-to-face learning method is commonly used in diabetes mellitus (DM) education; however, it often limits opportunities for patients to engage in independent study. In contrast, the flipped classroom method—an approach that integrates both online and face-to-face learning—allows patients to access learning materials in advance, which can be reviewed multiple times to enhance understanding. This study aims to investigate the impact of flipped classrooms on diabetic wound prevention behavior. Methods: This research was conducted using a quasi-experimental pre- and post-test design with a control group. A total of 68 patients with diabetes mellitus were selected through simple random sampling, with each group consisting of 34 participants. The research variables included the flipped classroom approach and diabetic wound prevention behavior, which were measured using the Modification of Diabetic Foot Care Behavior (MDFCB) questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics and t-tests. Results: There was a significant difference in diabetic wound prevention before (42.18±5.137) and after (46.41±5.461) being given intervention (p = 0.0001). Additionally, a significant difference in diabetic wound prevention was observed between the intervention group (46.41±5.461) and the control group (44.15±4.82) (p = 0.0001). Conclusions: The classroom approach enhances behaviors related to the prevention of diabetic foot wounds Further research is needed to improve the effectiveness of this approach in preventing of diabetic complications.

Abstract

Stunting is a global health issue that significantly impacts a country's well-being. Community empowerment, particularly through the role of posyandu (integrated health post) cadres and mothers of young children, is crucial in stunting prevention efforts. This community service program aimed to prevent stunting by educating the community using a health information pocketbook written in the local Suroboyoan language. Conducted in RW 5, Pacar Kembang Subdistrict, Surabaya, the program was attended by 30 participants, including posyandu cadres, pregnant women, and mothers of young children. The Asset-Based Community Development (ABCD) method was implemented through socialization and interactive discussions. The program successfully increased the participants' average knowledge score from a pre-test score of 69.7 ± 15.19 to a post-test score of 86.7 ± 9.58, with a p-value of 0.000 (Wilcoxon test), indicating a statistically significant improvement. The use of a pocketbook based on the local language proved effective in enhancing participants' understanding of stunting prevention. This approach is not only locally relevant but also has the potential to be replicated in other areas with cultural adaptations. Additionally, this model can be integrated into community health programs to support sustainable efforts in stunting prevention and improving public health literacy.
