Abstract

Bioflocs technology (BFT) is one of the developing technology in aquaculture which aimed to improve water quality and to enhance nutrient utilization efficiency. This technology is mainly based on the conversion of inorganic nitrogen in particular ammonia by heterotrophic bacteria into microbial biomass which further can be consumed by aquaculture organisms. The objective of this review is to discuss various aspect of BFT application in aquaculture including bioflocs formation process, technical requirement, bioflocs nutritional content and characterization techniques. Teknologi ini didasarkan pada konversi nitrogen anorganik terutama ammonia oleh bakteri heterotrof menjadi biomassa mikroba yang kemudian dapat dikonsumsi oleh organisme budidaya. Abstract

Bacterial disease is one of the most common diseases in aquaculture practices which have a significant impact. Several researches noted that pathogenicity of a certain bacteria can be determined by its quorum sensing activity. Quorum sensing is a communication process of a certain bacteria with the same or different species of bacteria which involves the releasing and capturing of signal molecule to and from the environment. This activity will activate a certain target gene which further resulted in the expression of a phenotype by the bacteria. With regard to this characteristic, one of the methods to control bacterial diseases is by quorum sensing disruption. Several species of algae, both micro and macro, have been found to be able to intervense bacterial quorum sensing and thus can be used as an alternative in bacterial disease control.    Key words: quorum sensing, bacterial disease, aquaculture, algae  Abstrak Penyakit bakteri adalah salah satu penyakit yang paling umum dalam akuakultur dengan dampak yang cukup signifikan. Beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa tingkat patogenitas suatu bakteri salah satunya ditentukan oleh aktivitas kuorum sensing bakteri. Kuorum sensing bakteri merupakan suatu proses komunikasi yang dilakukan oleh bakteri dengan bakteri lainnya baik yang sejenis maupun berlainan jenis yang berupa pelepasan dan penangkapan molekul sinyal menuju dan dari lingkungan sekitar bakteri tersebut. Aktivitas inilah yang akan menentukan ekspresi suatu gen target seperti patogenitas, sehingga salah satu metode yang dapat digunakan dalam mengendalikan penyakit yang disebabkan oleh bakteri adalah dengan mengganggu aktivitas kuorum sensing bakteri. Beberapa jenis alga, baik mikro maupun makro, diketahui dapat mengintervensi aktivitas kuorum sensing, dan dapat menjadi salah satu alternatif bagi pengendalian penyakit bakterial. Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this experiment was to study microbial abundance and diversity in the water, and immune parameters of red tilapia Oreochromis sp. cultured in bioflok system with different fish stocking densities. The experiment comprised of two different factors, carbon source addition (bioflocs and control), and fish stocking density (25 fish/m3, 50 fish/m3, dan 100 fish/m3), with an experimental period of 99 days. Microbial load in water was determined biweekly, whereas immune parameters represented by fish blood profile were measured on day 0, 50, and 90. There was no significant difference in total bacteria count in the water of all treatments; there was however a tendency shown by all treatments that the microbial load in water increased along with the culture period. There were 4 genera of bacteria which particularly found in bioflok system, which are Acinetobacter sp., Corynobacterium sp., Listeria sp., dan Pseudomonas sp, and are suggested to play a role in bioflok formation. The percentage of phagocytic index of fish in bioflok system was higher than that in control, and may indicate that bioflok may stimulate the fish immune system.Keywords: bioflocs, red tilapia, bacteria, blood profile. ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi kelimpahan dan keragaman jenis bakteri dalam air dan parameter imunitas ikan nila Oreochromis sp. yang dipelihara dalam sistem bioflok dengan kepadatan ikan yang berbeda. Penelitian terdiri atas dua faktor perlakuan yaitu penambahan sumber carbon (bioflok dan kontrol), dan padat penebaran ikan (25 ekor/m3, 50 ekor/m3, dan 100 ekor/m3) dengan lama waktu pemeliharaan ikan selama 99 hari. Kelimpahan bakteri diukur setiap 2 minggu sekali selama masa pemeliharaan. Parameter imunitas meliputi gambaran darah diukur dengan pengambilan contoh darah yang dilakukan pada tiga ekor ikan pada hari ke 0, 50, dan 99. Kelimpahan bakteri pada semua perlakuan pada setiap titik pengamatan tidak menunjukkan perbedaan yang nyata. Semua perlakuan menunjukkan kecenderungan peningkatan kelimpahan bakteri seiring dengan masa pemeliharaan. Terdapat 4 genus bakteri yang hanya ditemukan pada kolam bioflok yaitu Acinetobacter sp., Corynobacterium sp., Listeria sp., dan Pseudomonas sp yang diduga berperan dalam pembentukan bioflok. Persentase indeks fagositik pada ikan dengan perlakuan bioflok lebih tinggi dibanding kontrol, yang mengindikasikan peran bioflok sebagai stimulus sistem imun.Kata kunci: bioflok, nila merah, bakteri, gambaran darah.

Abstract

The aim of this research was evaluating the quality and digestibility of fermented local feedstuff as well as its effect on growth performance of common carp Cyprinus carpio juvenile. The local feedstuffs tested in this experiment were kapok seed, cassava peel, copra, rubber seed, and palm kernel meal. The previously milled feedstuff was fermented with instant yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae with a dose of 0.9% w/w and incubated for 24 hours. Following this, the fermented feedstuffs were dried, mixed with reference diet with a ratio of 3:7 and supplemented with 0.5% Cr2O3 as digestibility test indicator. Common carp juveniles with an initial average body weight of 14,11±1,28 g were cultured for 30 days. Fish feces were collected since the 6th day of culture, and followed by laboratory analyses. The results show that fermentation could increase the crude protein content of feedstuff with a range of 16.85‒31.11%, and decrease crude fiber with a range of 2.45‒31.65% with the exception of copra. Furthermore, fermentation also increased the feed digestibility including protein, energy, and total digestibility by the tested fish, as it is shown that the use of fermented feedstuffs may increase protein digestibility 3.88‒11.73%, 2,21‒10,24%, and 3,63‒72,37%. Finally, it can be concluded that fermentation can increase the digestibility of feed with local ingredients by common carp juvenile.   Keywords: fermentation, digestibility, local materials, common carp

Abstract

ABSTRACT Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effect of sheep rumen liquor enzyme addition on the reduction of cocoa-pod husk meal (CPHM) fiber content, and the digestibility of hydrolyzed CPHM for tilapia Oreochromis niloticus. In the first trial, sheep rumen liquor enzyme was added with various concentration, i.e. 0, 50, 100 and 150 mL/kg CPHM with three different incubation periods, namely 0, 12, and 24 hours. In the second trial, digestibility was determined by the addition of Cr2O3 as the indicator in both reference and experimental diets, i.e. feed with hydrolyzed CPHM and unhydrolyzed CPHM. Tilapia with an average body weight of 3.86±0.44 g were stocked at a density of 15 fish/aquarium and were maintained for 15 days. In the first trial, CPHM hydrolyzed with 150 mL/kg and incubated for 12 and 24 hour showed the lowest crude fiber content (21.38% and 21.67%). Apparent digestibility coefficient of hydrolyzed CPHM was 33.95%, which was higher than unhydrolyzed CPHM (10.97%). As conclusions sheep rumen liquor enzyme addition was effective to decrease crude fiber content of CPHM and improve the apparent digestibility coefficient of CPHM for tilapia diet. Keywords: sheep rumen liquor enzyme, cocoa-pod husk meal, digestibility, tilapia  ABSTRAK Dua tahap penelitian dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi penambahan enzim cairan rumen domba dalam menurunkan kandungan serat kasar kulit buah kakao (KBK) dan mengevaluasi ketercernaan KBK yang telah dihidrolisis dengan enzim cairan rumen domba dalam pakan ikan nila Oreochromis niloticus. Pada penelitian tahap satu, enzim cairan rumen domba ditambahkan dengan konsentrasi yang berbeda yaitu 0, 50, 100, dan 150 mL/kg KBK dengan lama inkubasi yang berbeda yaitu 0, 12, dan 24 jam. Pada penelitian tahap dua, nilai ketercernaan ditentukan dengan menggunakan indikator Cr2O3 yang ditambahkan ke dalam pakan acuan dan pakan perlakuan, yaitu pakan dengan penambahan KBK yang telah dihidrolisis dengan dosis terbaik pada penelitian tahap satu (KBKe) dan kulit buah kakao tanpa hidrolisis (KBK). Ikan nila yang digunakan mempunyai bobot rata-rata 3,86±0,44 g ditebar dengan kepadatan 15 ekor/akuarium dan dipelihara selama 15 hari. Hasil penelitian tahap satu menunjukkan hidrolisis KBK dengan menggunakan cairan rumen 150 mL/kg dan lama waktu inkubasi 12 jam dan 24 jam mempunyai nilai serat kasar KBK terendah yaitu sebesar 21,38% dan 21,67%. Pada uji ketercernaan terlihat bahwa nilai ketercernaan bahan KBKe lebih tinggi (33,95%) dibandingkan dengan KBK (10,97%). Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa penambahan enzim cairan rumen domba dapat menurunkan kandungan serat kasar kulit buah kakao dan meningkatkan ketercernaan kulit buah kakao pada pakan ikan nila. Kata kunci: enzim cairan rumen domba, kulit buah kakao, ketercernaan, ikan nila

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of the present experiment was to study the most optimum taurine enrichment concentration of rotifers in improving Pacific white shrimp larva Litopenaeus vannamei survival and development. White shrimp larvae at sixth naupliar stage were reared in 12 units of 500 L fibre glass tanks with a stocking density of 125 ind/L. Starting from zoea two stage (Z-2), the larva was provided with rotifers with different taurine enrichment concentration according to the treatments, i.e. 0 mg/L enrichment medium (A), 25 mg/L (B), 50 mg/L(C), and 100 mg/L (D). The results show that different taurine concentration in the enrichment media increased taurine level in rotifers. Furthermore, the administration of taurine enriched rotifers up to 50 mg/L significantly improved larval survival and may accelerate larval development. The experimental results also concluded that a concentration of 50 mg/L is the most optimum taurine enrichment concentration of rotifers for the improvement of white shrimp larval survival and developmental stage.Keywords: taurine, rotifer, white shrimp, enrichmentABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji konsentrasi optimum taurin melalui pengayaan pada rotifera terhadap tingkat kelangsungan hidup dan perkembangan stadia larva udang vaname Litopenaeus vannamei. Larva udang vaname stadia naupli-6 dipelihara dalam 12 tangki fiberglass volume 500 L dengan kepadatan 125 ind/L. Dimulai sejak stadia zoea 2 (Z-2) larva diberi rotifera yang diperkaya dengan taurin dengan konsentrasi yang berbeda sesuai dengan perlakuan, yaitu 0 mg/L media pengkaya (A), 25 mg/L (B), 50mg/L (C), dan 100mg/L (D). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan pengayaan taurin pada konsentrasi yang berbeda menyebabkan peningkatan kandungan taurin rotifera. Sementara pemberian rotifera yang diperkaya taurin hingga 50 mg/L meningkatkan kelangsungan hidup dan mempercepat perkembangan stadia larva udang. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian rotifera yang diperkaya taurin dengan konsentrasi 50 mg/L menghasilkan tingkat kelangsungan hidup tertinggi (53,5%) dan perkembangan larva yang tercepat (p<0,05) dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya.Kata kunci: taurin, rotifera, udang vanname, pengayaan

Abstract

ABSTRACTThe objective of this study was to study the effect of incubation period on the nutritional content of Azolla sp. meal fermented by Trichoderma harzianum, and its optimum supplementation level in the feed of tilapia Oreochromis sp. In incubation period treatments, fermentation of Azolla meal was performed in two, six, eight, and ten days (AF2, AF6, AF8, AF10) using Trichoderma harzianum as the fermentor. The fish used in this study was tilapia Oreochromis sp. with an average weight of 10.59±1.29 g. The design of the feeding treatments was repeletting commercial feed with Azolla leaves by with different supplementation levels, i.e. 0% (A/control), 30% (B), 60% (C), and 90% (D). Faecal collection for digestibility measurement was conducted for 15 days and fish growth rate was observed for 40 days. Azolla meal fermented for two days (AF2) showed the best results among the other treatments with a crude fiber decrease of 37.19% and protein increase of 38.65%. The results of this study indicate that fermentation can increase the nutritional quality of Azolla meal and its most optimal supplementation level in the diet of tilapia is 30%.Keywords: crude fiber, Azolla sp., tilapiaABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama waktu fermentasi daun mata lele Azolla sp. menggunakan kapang Trichoderma harzianum serta dosis optimal dalam pakan ikan nila Oreochromis sp. Proses fermentasi tepung daun mata lele dilakukan selama dua, enam, delapan, dan sepuluh hari (AF2, AF6, AF8, AF10). Ikan uji pada penelitian ini menggunakan ikan nila Oreochromis sp. dengan bobot rata-rata 10,59±1,29 g yang ditebar sebanyak 6 ekor/akuarium berukuran 50×45×30 cm3. Sebagai pakan perlakuan yakni repeletting daun mata lele dengan pakan komersil pada tingkat suplementasi 0% (A/kontrol), 30% (B), 60% (C), dan 90% (D). Pemeliharaan ikan uji dan pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan feses ikan untuk uji ketercernaan selama 15 hari dan mengamati pertumbuhan ikan selama 40 hari. Tepung daun mata lele yang difermentasi selama dua hari (AF2) memiliki hasil yang paling baik di antara perlakuan lainnya yakni dengan penurunan serat kasar sebesar 37,19% dan peningkatan protein sebesar 38,65%. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa fermentasi dapat meningkatkan kualitas nutrisi daun mata lele serta dosis optimal pemanfaatan tepung daun mata lele fermentasi dalam pakan ikan nila adalah sebesar 30%.Kata kunci: serat kasar, Azolla sp., ikan nila

Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was aimed to examine the growth performance and non-specific immune response of Pacific white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) fed on the diet supplemented with β-(1,3) glucan (BG) and poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) as feed additives. Shrimp juvenile at an initial body weight of 2.06±0.03 g was randomly distributed into 12 units of aquaria at a density of 20 shrimps/tank and reared for 42 days. The treatments applied in this study were control (without feed additives), 1.5 g/kg BG, 10 g/kg PHB and 1,5 g/kg BG+10 g/kg PHB. Results showed that shrimp fed on 1.5 /kg BG-supplemented feed had significantly higher growth performance and non-specific immune response. Keywords: growth, shrimp, non-specific immune response, Litopenaeus vannamei  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji kinerja pertumbuhan dan respons imun nonspesifik udang vaname Litopenaeus vannamei yang diberi pakan dengan penambahan feed additive berupa β-(1,3) glukan (BG) dan poli-β-hidroksibutirat (PHB). Juvenil udang 2,06±0,03 g dipelihara pada 12 unit akuarium dengan empat perlakuan dan tiga ulangan, serta padat tebar 20 ekor/tank selama 42 hari pemeliharaan. Perlakuan yang diberikan dalam penelitian ini yaitu penambahan BG (1,5 g/kg), PHB (10 g/kg), dan BG (1,5 g/kg)+PHB (10 g/kg), serta kontrol (tanpa penambahan feed additive). Abstract

ABSTRACT Freshwater prawn Macrobrachium rosenbergii is one of the most important aquaculture commodities in Indonesia. This study evaluated the effect of dietary β-glucan supplementation (0%, 0.075%, 0.15%, and 0.225%) on the immune parameters, survival, and growth of giant freshwater prawn. Prawn juvenile with an initial body weight of 1.25±0.041 g was randomly distributed into eight units of glass aquaria (150 L) with a density of 16 animals/aquarium. Phenoloxydase activity, total and differential haemocyte counts, survival, and specific growth rate of the prawn were measured and calculated on the final day of experiment (day 42). Phenoloxydase activity, total and differential haemocyte counts of β-glucan treatments were higher than control, whereas no significant difference was observed in survival. The highest specific growth rate was observed in the 0.15% β-glucan supplementation treatment with 1.92%/day. Keywords: phenoloxydase activity, haemocyte, β-glucan, specific growth rate, giant freshwater prawn  ABSTRAK Udang galah Macrobrachium rosenbergii merupakan salah satu komoditas akuakultur yang penting di Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh suplementasi pakan dengan β-glukan sebesar 0%, 0,075%, 0,15%, dan 0,225% terhadap parameter imunitas dan kinerja pertumbuhan udang galah. Juvenil udang dengan bobot tebar rata-rata 1,25±0,041 g ditebar secara acak pada delapan unit akuarium (150 L) dengan padat tebar 16 ekor/akuarium. Parameter yang diamati adalah aktivitas fenoloksidase (PO), jumlah dan diferensiasi hemosit, sintasan, dan laju pertumbuhan spesifik yang diukur dan dihitung setelah 42 hari masa pemeliharaan. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai aktivitas PO, total hemosit, dan diferensial hemosit pada udang yang diberi pakan dengan suplementasi β-glukan cenderung lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan kontrol. Sintasan masing-masing perlakuan tidak berbeda nyata dengan perlakuan kontrol. Abstract

ABSTRACT This research was conducted to evaluate the effect of different Artemia feeding period on the size variation of catfish Clarias sp. larvae. One thousand two days post hatched larvae with an average body length of 0.7±0.03 cm were randomly distributed into 25 L round plastic tanks. The treatment conducted for 13 days with four treatment; without Artemia, given Artemia 1, 2, or 3 days in the first culture period. The results showed that 15 days old fish has the same survival rate in all treatments; and has two size distribution i.e. the small size (S) and medium size (M). Increasingly the period of administration of Artemia, the percentage of the amount of M-size fish increases, thereby giving Artemia were able to increase growth of larvae. Feeding catfish with Artemia for two days has shown producing better growth. Keywords: catfish, Artemia, size variation, growth performance  ABSTRAK Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengevaluasi pengaruh perbedaan periode pemberian pakan Artemia terhadap kinerja pertumbuhan larva ikan lele Clarias sp. Seribu ekor larva lele yang berumur dua hari dengan panjang rata-rata 0,7±0,03 cm ditebar dalam wadah dengan volume air 25 L. Budidaya ikan dilakukan selama 13 hari dengan empat perlakuan, yaitu perlakuan tanpa pemberian Artemia, pemberian Artemia selama satu, dua, atau tiga hari di awal masa budidaya. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ikan umur 15 hari memiliki sintasan yang sama di semua perlakuan, serta memiliki dua sebaran ukuran, yakni ukuran kecil (S) dan ukuran sedang (M). Semakin lama periode pemberian Artemia, persentase jumlah ikan ukuran M meningkat, sehingga pemberian Artemia pada larva ikan lele mampu meningkatkan pertumbuhan. Pemberian Artemia selama dua hari memberikan pertumbuhan yang lebih baik. Kata kunci: ikan lele, Artemia, keragaman ukuran, kinerja pertumbuhan
