Abstract

The motivational climate in sports is a crucial factor affecting athlete performance and well-being in both team and individual sports. This study compares the motivational climate between team and individual athletes. Using a quantitative descriptive method, the research involved 15 handball team athletes and 15 individual taekwondo athletes from West Java, selected through purposive sampling. All participants were female, aged 17 to 26 years, with a minimum of 3 years of competitive experience. Data were collected using the Perceived Motivational Climate in Sport Questionnaire (PMCSQ-2). Results showed that team athletes had a slightly higher motivational climate (M = 44.99, SD = 10.19) compared to individual athletes (M = 41.50, SD = 10.47). Team athletes also scored higher in ego and task orientations, with means of 44.23 and 45.74, respectively, while individual athletes scored 39.62 and 43.38. These findings suggest that team sports foster a more positive motivational climate due to stronger social support and group dynamics. Individual athletes focused more on skill mastery and personal goals, facing greater responsibility. This research provides insights for coaches and managers to improve the motivational climate in both team and individual sports, helping athletes achieve optimal performance and maintain mental health. Coaches should focus on individual athletes' personal achievements and support systems to enhance their well-being.

Abstract

Abstract This research is motivated by the low participation of female students in physical education learning (Goodyear, Casey, Kirk, 2014). The purpose of this study is to determine the increase in participation and manipulative learning outcomes of female students in physical education in fifth grade students of SDN 053 Cisitu, Bandung City 2019/2020. Therefore, researchers are interested in conducting a study so that participation and manipulative learning outcomes of female students can increase. In this study, researchers used an experimental research method with the research design used was The Matching-Only Pretest-Postest Control Group. The research instrument used the PEPAS -Purposes for Engaging in Physical Activity Scale questionnaire and the manipulative learning outcomes assessment sheet. Based on the results of the analysis it can be concluded that there is no difference in the effect of the three cooperative learning strategies on the participation of female students, so it can be said that the three strategies have the same effect in increasing the participation of female students. However, on the results of students' manipulative learning there are differences in the effects of these three cooperative learning strategies, where the STAD strategy provides the best effect on manipulative learning outcomes for female students, followed by the TGT strategy and the Jigsaw strategy. The Matching-Only Pretest-Postest Control Grup.

Abstract

Background Problems: Anxious athletes often doubt their ability to manage stress and achieve goals. Developing self-efficacy is vital as it enhances performance and confidence while reducing stress. There is a research gap in exploring the relationship and differences between self-efficacy and pre-competitive anxiety across athletes in sports with varying characteristics. Research Objectives: Considering the lack of research on self-efficacy in Pencak Silat, this study aims to deepen understanding of how self-efficacy impacts performance, particularly when comparing individual and team categories in Pencak Silat. Methods: Sample selection used the Purposive Sampling technique, with criteria including individual and team categories in Pencak Silat consisting of 30 athletes, including 15 individual and 15 team categories from Pencak Silat PON Jawa Barat and PAL Kota Bandung athletes. The research design used is a correlation and comparative study, with data collection employing a quantitative method. The measurement tools used were the CSAI-2R and the GSES. The data were analysed using correlation tests to measure the relationship between anxiety levels and self-efficacy, and independent sample t-tests were used to compare differences between the two groups in terms of anxiety and self-efficacy level. Finding and Results: The results of the correlation test show that there is a relationship between anxiety and self-efficacy with the Pearson value for teams (-0.532) and individuals (0.771), and the results of the hypothesis show a significant difference between the two categories (0.001 < 0.05). Conclusion: The study found significant differences in anxiety and self-efficacy between individual and team pencak silat athletes, emphasising the need for tailored psychological approaches to enhance performance. Future research could explore targeted mental training programmes, track changes over time, or examine other martial arts or athlete groups for deeper insights.

Abstract

Abstract

Athletes' success in achieving optimal performance is not solely dependent on physical and technical abilities but is also influenced by psychological factors such as motivation and mental toughness. This study aims to examine the relationship between motivation and mental toughness in relation to the performance of Taekwondo athletes in Bandung City. Using a correlational quantitative method with 36 respondents, the study employed the Sport Motivation Scale (SMS-28) and the Sport Mental Toughness Questionnaire (SMTQ). The analysis revealed that motivation has a significant positive relationship with athletic performance, with higher motivation increasing the likelihood of achieving optimal results. Mental toughness also contributes significantly to performance, although its impact is somewhat weaker than motivation. Motivation provides the primary drive for athletes to continue training, face challenges, and maintain consistency in competition. Mental toughness enables athletes to stay focused under pressure, manage stress, and recover from setbacks, thereby supporting optimal performance. The results indicate that a combination of strong motivation and high mental toughness is a key factor in athletes' success. Support from coaches, families, and mental strength programs is crucial for optimizing both of these factors. This study offers valuable insights into the psychological aspects affecting athlete performance and suggests the development of interventions based on motivation and mental toughness to enhance the performance of Taekwondo athletes

Abstract

Eating disorders are prevalent among athletes, impacting their physical and psychological health. This study examines the influence of psychosocial factors—specifically stress and social support—on eating disorders among senior and junior athletes. A descriptive quantitative approach was used, with taekwondo athletes from SLOMPN UPI and the West Java Taekwondo Team selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using three validated questionnaires: the Eating Disorder Screen for Athletes (EDS-A), the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), and the Athletes Received Support Questionnaire. Statistical analysis, including Two-Way ANOVA and descriptive statistics, was performed using IBM SPSS Statistics Version 25. Results showed a significant impact of psychosocial factors on eating disorders for both senior and junior athletes (p < 0.05). Senior athletes exhibited higher mean scores for eating disorders (20.53), stress (33.62), and social support (70.14) compared to junior athletes, who had mean scores of 18.94, 28.91, and 64, respectively. Despite receiving more social support, senior athletes experienced higher stress levels, which correlated with a greater risk of eating disorders. Conversely, junior athletes with lower stress levels showed a reduced risk of eating disorders, highlighting the importance of strong social support networks. These findings suggest that interventions should focus on enhancing social support and stress management tailored to different age groups. Future research should explore gender differences in psychosocial factors affecting eating disorders to develop more targeted interventions.

Abstract

This bibliometric study investigates the critical role of social support in school sports, emphasizing its impact on students' personal development and engagement. Drawing on a comprehensive analysis of 2,245 articles published from 2014 to 2024, this research identifies emerging trends, influential authors, and key publications in the field. Findings reveal that participation in school sports enhances not only physical fitness but also emotional, cognitive, and social skills, ultimately contributing to life satisfaction and academic success. The analysis highlights the significance of a supportive network—including family, peers, and educators—in fostering positive outcomes for young athletes. Despite the growing interest in this area, gaps in the literature regarding the longitudinal evolution of social support in school sports are evident, necessitating further exploration of its dynamics across diverse cultural contexts. The study also presents a keyword cluster analysis that delineates two primary themes: methodological approaches and participant characteristics, shedding light on prevailing research foci. This research underscores the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration among educators, policymakers, and researchers to prioritize social support within school sports frameworks, thereby enhancing the educational experience and promoting holistic development among students.
