Abstract

The low participation and difficulty in mastering movements among pencak silat students at MAN Palopo are thought to have an impact on their character development. This study aims to analyze the influence of YouTube social media on improving the character of pencak silat students. The method used is quantitative with a correlation approach. The population consisted of 100 students, with a sample of 20 people selected purposively based on the criteria of using YouTube to learn pencak silat for at least one hour per week. Data collection techniques used questionnaires and observations, which were then analyzed using Pearson's correlation test, regression, T-test, and F-test using SPSS. The results showed a very strong and significant relationship between YouTube usage and student character (r = 0.712; p < 0.05). Regression analysis proved that YouTube had a positive and significant effect on character building (β = 0.610; p < 0.05), which was reinforced by significant T-test and F-test results. The conclusion of this study is that the use of YouTube social media containing educational content on pencak silat has been proven to significantly improve students' positive character traits, such as discipline, responsibility, and respect.

Abstract

This study examines the strategies employed by Muslim minority families in Tana Toraja to foster harmony and gender-balanced relationships within multireligious household settings. Using a qualitative phenomenological design, the research draws on extended interviews and close observations of five families formed through religious conversion. The analysis shows that everyday family life is shaped less by rigid patriarchal expectations than by negotiated understandings of roles and responsibilities, allowing men and women to construct a shared moral framework that remains sensitive to their differing religious commitments. Women, in particular, often act as stabilizing figures who sustain kinship networks through social participation, educational involvement, and economic activities, while simultaneously upholding clear boundaries in matters of worship and creed. Interpreted through Maqāsid al-Sharīʿah and contemporary approaches to Islamic pedagogy (Tarbiyah), these patterns reveal an egalitarian ethos that reinforces the protection of faith and lineage by fostering an atmosphere that is both tolerant of pluralism and grounded in religious integrity. The study contributes to current debates in Islamic family law and the sociology of religion by demonstrating how negotiated gender equality becomes a practical strategy for preserving familial cohesion in multireligious contexts.

Abstract

The essence of religious moderation lies in transforming the perspectives and attitudes of religious groups toward diversity, rather than moderating the religion itself. This study aims to pinpoint and explore how the ecosystem of religious moderation shapes youth tolerance through religious literacy. The research was conducted in three regions of Indonesia: the western, central, and eastern areas. A total of 350 informants were selected proportionally. Using a mixed-methods approach, the study embraced an exploratory sequential design that integrates qualitative and quantitative methods. Quantitative data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling, while qualitative data were examined thematically. The findings indicate that the Religious Moderation Ecosystem (X1)—which consists of six components: society, education, religion, politics, the state, and the media—significantly influences youth tolerance (Y). Another key finding indicates that religious literacy functions as a mediating variable (Z) between the ecosystem and youth tolerance. The significance of religious literacy as a mediator constitutes the study’s novelty, demonstrating its ability to link the religious moderation ecosystem with tolerant attitudes among young people. These results carry both theoretical and practical implications, highlighting substantial direct and interceded relationships among the ecosystem, religious literacy, and tolerance. Furthermore, religious literacy is capable of mediating all elements of the religious moderation ecosystem in shaping tolerance, marking it as a novel contribution compared to prior research. This study is limited by the restricted number of respondents, which does not fully represent all regions. Therefore, future studies are recommended to explore the ecosystem of religious moderation with a more proportionate distribution of regions, respondents, and informants.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implications of gadget use on the social behavior of adolescents in Bone Tua Village, Masamba District, North Luwu Regency. This research uses a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. The research informants consisted of 5 people with adolescent criteria who used gadgets and indications of social behavior, so that the technique used in determining informants was the purposive sampling technique. Data was collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, then analyzed by data reduction steps, data presentation, and conclusion drawn. The validity of the data is strengthened through source triangulation, triangulation techniques, and member checking. The results of the study show that the use of gadgets has two sides of influence. On the one hand, gadgets facilitate communication, provide access to knowledge, and encourage creativity and digital skills of teenagers. On the other hand, uncontrolled use of gadgets has a negative impact on reduced face-to-face interaction, weakened empathy, the emergence of individualistic behavior, a tendency for social isolation, and dependence on cyberspace, Thus, based on the results of data analysis obtained through interviews, observations, and documentation, it can be concluded that the use of gadgets has a significant influence on the formation of adolescent social behavior. The findings of the study show that gadgets have a positive impact, such as ease of communication and obtaining information, but also have a negative impact in the form of reduced direct social interaction, decreased empathy, and a tendency to social isolation if their use is not controlled. Therefore, the role of parents, teachers, and the social environment is indispensable in providing supervision, mentoring, and education so that the use of gadgets can be directed wisely, balanced, and still beneficial for the social development of adolescents.

Abstract

This study addresses ongoing challenges related to intolerance and social cohesion by examining the implementation of Peace Education within the context of Religious Moderation Villages. This study aims to (1) analyse and formulate strategies to integrate relevant and applicable peace education values in the socio-cultural context of moderate villages; and (2) detect and map the role and effectiveness of the social ecosystem in supporting the values of peace education in the daily lives of the community in a sustainable manner. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, this study involved 150 FGD participants, with 15 key informants interviewed, consisting of religious leaders, youth, women, teachers, KUA (Religious Affairs Office) instructors, police officers, members of parliament, and village officials. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, Focus Group Discussions, and participant observation, then analysed narratively with triangulation of sources and methods. The findings suggest four strategies to accelerate the transformation of Religious Moderation Villages through Peace Education: (1) strengthening individual peace awareness; (2) strengthening family and community-based moderation values; (3) institutionalising religious and cultural values through inclusive education and village governance; and (4) strengthening cross-actor collaboration (religious leaders, cultural leaders, youth, women's groups, village government, and security/social institutional actors). These four strategies work through layered integration across formal, non-formal, and informal learning spaces and across ecosystem levels (individual, family, community, and institution), so that peaceful values become habitual and institutionally supported. Digitalisation, particularly youth engagement through tolerance narratives on social media, serves as a reinforcing mechanism that expands the reach of peace messages and strengthens cross-group interactions beyond face-to-face meetings. These findings produce a data-driven transformation map for scalable community-based peacebuilding. Peace Education serves as an effective approach in strengthening a culture of tolerance at the community level, although this research is still limited to local contexts and requires quantitative testing for broader validation.
