Abstract

Chitosan is an ingredient that can be used as a feed additive. In aquaculture, chitosan can be used as an antimicrobial, antifungal, antioxidant growth-promoting and immunostimulant. This study aims to determine the optimum addition of chitosan to feed to increase growth and daily feed consumption of giant gourami. The method used in this research is an experimental method using a completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of five treatments and three replications. The treatments used were (A) without chitosan (control), (B) 2.5 g/kg feed, (C) 5 g/kg feed, (D) 7.5 g/kg feed, and (E) giving chitosan of 10 g/kg feed. The test fish used were giant gourami with a 6 – 8 cm length and a weight of 8 – 10 g. The container used was hapa measuring 1 x 1 x 1 m3 with a density of 15 fish per treatment and 42 days of maintenance. The feeding rate was 3% of the fish biomass. Data from observations of length and weight were analyzed using Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) with a 95% confidence level; if there was a significant difference, Duncan's multiple distance test was performed. The results showed that addition of chitosan 7.5 g/kg feed was effective in improving growth on giant gourami. During maintenance, absolute length growth was 2.90 ± 0.10 cm, absolute weight growth was 15.33 ± 1.19 g, daily growth was 36.51 ± 2.84%, feed conversion ratio was 1.69 ± 0.06, and survival rate was 100 ± 0.00%. This research concluded that the optimum level of addition of chitosan to increase growth and daily feed consumption of giant gourami was 7.5 g/kg feed. Keywords:ChitosanFeed additiveGiant gouramiGrowth

Abstract

Commercial feed contributes to the operational costs of aquaculture production activities. On the other hand, making your feed requires formulation and availability of raw materials in maintained quantity and quality. Local feed raw materials can be used as alternative ingredients. Still, one of the obstacles is several limiting factors, such as crude fiber and the binding of some essential nutrients, such as protein and minerals. Hence, nutrient utilization is low and has a direct impact on growth. Adding feed additives as sources of enzymes is considered to help speed up the digestive process so sufficient nutrients are available for growth and survival. Enzymes break down large molecules such as crude fiber starch, increasing protein and fat into forms easily digested and absorbed by fish. This paper aims to review the use of enzymes to improve the quality of fish feed ingredients. The method used is Literature Review. Improving the quality of feed raw materials with the help of enzymes can increase the quality of fish feed ingredients. Application of enzymes in fish feed as additional feed ingredients (feed additives) through the addition of commercial enzymes, enzymes from plant or animal extracts, and microbial enzymes

Abstract

Ornamental fish farming is identical to attractive colors formed from the union of genetics and digested feed sources. Exploration and processing of feed ingredients are one of the important factors added to feed formulations to increase brightness in fish. Pigment sources are divided into 2, namely natural pigment sources (plant and animal), and synthetic pigment sources as commercial materials. The application of pigment source feed ingredients is used as feed additives (nutritive and non-nutritive) which are added or mixed in the formulation. The preparation technique for adding pigment sources is carried out by spray drying, and coating (coating) in feed. Feed additives in commercial ornamental fish feed formulations can be in the form of active substances astaxanthin (C₄₀H₅₂O₄) and beta-carotene (C₄₀H₅₆) which give red-orange color, or in the form of alternative feed ingredients from spirulina, carrots, and pumpkin which give yellow and orange colors. Astaxanthin and beta-carotene dyes have been proven effective in enhancing the brightness of color in ornamental fish at a dose of 1500 ppm. The aim of the review is to provide information and insight regarding pigment source feed ingredients as well as related processing of pigment source materials using several extraction methods. The method used in this review is based on the results of a literature study using articles that have been searched on Google Scholar for the period 2012-2024. Each journal used has the results of research on pigment source materials, processing of pigment sources and their application for pigments in fish.

Abstract

Tuna (Thunnus sp.) is one of the potential fishery products because it has a high protein content. Tuna fish can be processed into various kinds of processing, one of which is pepes ikan which is a traditional Indonesia dish. Processed fishery products such as pepes can also experience a decrease in quality, one of which can be caused by the presence of bacteria, such as Vibrio cholerae bacteria. Vibrio cholerae is an opportunistic pathogen in estuarine and marine environments. These bacteria can be transferred into the food matrix causing illness if consumed by humans. The purpose of this study is to identify the content of Vibrio cholerae bacteria in tuna fish pepes processed products. The results of biochemical tests based on SNI 01-2332.4-2006 show that tuna fish pepes originating from one MSME in the Special Region of Yogyakarta does not contain or are negative for Vibrio cholerae so that it is suitable for marketing and human consumption.
