Abstract

The interference of the first language (Indonesian) in the use of English as a foreign language is a phenomenon of one’s failure in acquiring the language. The interference may occur on lexical, morphological and syntactical elements which cause by many factors. This paper discusses the factors causing Indonesian grammatical interferences on English use shown in the English students’ writings of the two universities in Padang, Indonesia.   As a whole, the main causes are linguistics and non-linguistics factors which contributed to any grammatical interference appeared in students’ writing concerning syntactical, morphological and lexical elements. Limited vocabulary and lack competence of English were the linguistics factors. The tendency to use such vocabularies caused  grammatical interferences since those vocabularies could not be appropriately used in the contexts of sentences. While the non-linguistic factor contributed to this phenomenon in terms of cultural internalization and social status as well as psychological drive. The influence of Indonesian cultures, such as the use of complicated and twisty sentences appeared on students’ writing instead of being direct to the point as in the English culture. A sort of motivation gained by students, that is intstrumental motivation, may also result interference.

The purpose of this study is to explore nursing students' perceptions of the use of the TPACK Framework within Task-based Language Teaching in an online class. The study employed a one-shot survey design. The participants of this study were 40 undergraduate nursing students at the nursing study program Poltekes Solok, West Sumatera. To avoid teacher-centered learning, this study implemented the TPACK Framework within Task-based Language Teaching, which has the potential to modify the way students learn. The questionnaire was delivered to the students using Google forms after the online learning activities were completed. The questionnaire was statistically analyzed using descriptive statistics such as frequency and percentage. The findings showed that most nursing students had positive perceptions of the use of the TPACK Framework within Task-based Language Teaching in online classes. Thus, incorporating the TPACK Framework into Task-based Language Teaching may become one of the potential methods of teaching English for nursing in an online class.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to find the impact of project-based learning using vlogs in improving the vocabulary skills of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) students. Participants in this study were 60 students. Sampling was done randomly. The method used is a one-group experiment. This study provides treatment for group experiments using pre-test and post-test. The research instrument has been tested using content validity by three supervisors with doctoral degrees. The results of the study concluded that the approach or learning method with learning media based on the student's background and the situation of the online learning environment had a significant effect on improving student learning outcomes. The concept of project-based learning applied through vlog design in PAUD classes has had a major impact on increasing students' vocabulary. The results of the study also have implications for teachers' understanding in solving problems through joint or individual projects that direct students to use their learning experiences and seek information to produce good vlogs.
